Much thanks for Ali Caplin for helping with the recording and Jess and Oli for allowing us to use the space
This song speaks to my grief at losing my childhood sweetheart of 28 years. He was proudly Irish. Rest in power, Ross.
I am stretched on your grave
And I'll lie here forever
If you hands were in mine
I'd be sure they would not sever
My apple tree, my brightness,
It's time we were together
For I smell by the Earth
And I'm worn by the weather.
When my family think
That I'm safely in my bed
Oh, from morn until night
I am stretched out at your head
Calling out unto the earth
With tears hot and wild
For the loss of a girl
That I loved as a child.
Do you remember the night
Oh, the night when we were lost
In the shade of the blackthorn
And the touch of the frost?
Oh, and thanks be to Jesus
We did all that was right
And your maidenhead still
Is your pillar of light.
Oh, the priests and the friars
They approach me in dread
Oh, for I love you still
Oh, my life, and you're dead
I still will be your shelter
Through rain and through storm
And with you in your cold grave
I cannot sleep warm
I am stretched on your grave
And I'll lie here forever
If you hands were in mine
I'd be sure they would not sever
My apple tree, my brightness,
It's time we were together
For I smell by the Earth
And I'm worn by the weather
This song, based on an older poem, is very powerful and emotional. I feel it deeply every time I hear it.
The emotion expressed in her delivery is so authentic. My apple tree, my brightness it’s time we were together. I love you still; I’m alive and you are dead. It’s time we were together. RIP CDS 🖤
Such a direct, powerful delivery of this song. I've heard other versions that make it sound more like an expression of a spooky obsession. Here I hear grief.
Thank you Peter!
This is my favorite version I've ever heard of this song. God id marry this lass just to hear her sing every night
the best version to me....wow!!
*Best one I've heard so far.*
This is not as easy as it my look. She is singing without instruments so a singer voice is laid bare. Well done.
I think the look in her eyes at the end of the song tells the story. This came from a very personal place. I gave it a 'thumbs up' although that seems a bit inappropriate for this song.
Oh my Gods that was absolutely stunning! What a lucky find for me. What a beautiful voice and such control and timing. Beautiful!
And I agree with Peter Small and Dobie Elf - this is THE BEST version of this song I have ever heard! Thank you!
I didn't cry 'till the end when the tears in Domminie's eyes broke loose the tears in mine.
This is the best rendition of this song I've ever seen..and I've seen a couple of doźen, at least.
This is my favorite version I've heard. Your voice is beautiful, and the song is great as it is. A part of me however, wishes I could hear you sing this tune with a band. Those crying Celtic fiddles would sound great paired with your vocals.
Powerful beautiful voice
This is outstanding! Incredible delivery
Beautiful voice
Fine fine job.
