Just for everyone's info, Ovo-lacto vegetarians are the most common "vegetarians" in Singapore - Able to consume Ovo (egg), Lacto (Dairy) products. On the cheese part, it depends on whether if the rennet used is derived from microbial or plant based (E.g. Those shredded cheese sold at Phoon Huat/Redman are made of plant-based rennet). Onions, garlic, leeks or basically those pungent vegetables are not consumed by Buddhist vegetarians.

Actually cai fan veg not Vegetarian they use meat oil and the curry chili usually is of animal's product. Like balachan got ikan.

Ey 72 hours vegetarian got some cheat parts! Fish sauce, ikan bilis soup which the vegetarian gyoza was cooking in, n sambal has prawns inside. Not legit leh... If anyone was lookin in this video for inspiration to be vegetarian, they'll be misled. Would have been more productive to check the ingredients list etc beforehand

@@Ethelin12 Most traditional kimchi include fish sauce (myulchiaekjeot) and shrimp (saeujeot) in the seasoning, so Tommy's comment is true. Although there's certainly recipes for vegetarian-friendly kimchi :)

@@pyschannel3831 Vegetarian is means you can't eat anything that uses animal. Example, some jelly consist of animal bones. My dad is a vegetarian and he always has to see ingredients of new product he's buying
Unless specifically stated, ramen broth even for meatless toppings still contain beef/pork broth
vegetarian challenge not vegan, I think vegetarian just cannot eat meat directly.
@@fffffwuuqs7852 nah vegetarians and vegans cant eat meat indirectly too like drinking meat broths. we are kinda sensitive to these things thats why we always check the ingredients first.(at least to my knowledge)
@@ryanwong5357 it depends on the person though. Some people might make allowances for thinks like meat stock while other people are very strict on not eating any meat related thing.

Important to include supplements like B12 if you are on a long term vegan or vegetarian dietary. It can help to replenish vital vitamins, promote red blood cell production and reduce possibility of B12 deficiency. 😊

That udon place uses a traditional bonito-based soup stock though, so it really doesn't count as vegetarian unless they specifically state it as so. Ramen Nagi & Ippudo has better options if anyone is looking to try this "challenge".
Try eating local vegetarian dishes at Gokul restaurant... They taste like real meat.... Within 2 meals there you will turn vegetarian... Surely
If u are strict vegetarian, for cheese there’s an ingredient called rennet which vegetarian can’t eat...
Singapore's pizza hut uses microbial rennet not animal rennet so it's actually vegetarian! :)

i applaud being vegetarian is still better than being nothing. At least trying and conscious not to have meat in diet. This goes for animals (linking it to your house dogs and cats), environmental and own health being.
Of course vegetarian/vegan can be junk too if you basically eat ramen, processed food etc. Plant based name is what set the different, veggies plants.

10:35 The decor and the location of Plaza Sing made me thing that Mandon went to Tamoya Udon. If that's the case that was another cheat since their udon broth was made with bonito flakes, which was dried fish shavings from Japan.

some parmesan cheese use microbial rennet which is vegetarian!

I believe need some explanation on why cheese (particularly mozzarella and parmesan) are not vegetarian
Because milk requires rennet to cultivate into cheese, and rennet is an enzyme found at the wall of stomach of animal, and that makes it non veggie.
Tho there's cultivated rennet or artificial rennet, but not sure if pizz hut uses which rennet
I am not exactly vegetarian but i eat vegetarian food almost thrice a week. Would be a piece of cake for this challenge.

LOL that's true! And there are also plenty of vegetarian meatless substitutes nowadays like Beyond Meat, Impossible Foods, Quorn etc, or restaurants like Green Dot, Veganburg and more!

Well plants are usually carbon sinks (they absorb carbon), while meat removes that carbon sink (the land to build the farm), the waste usually produces carbon (carbon dioxide, methane etc). If the meat or soy is processed, then yes its another carbon source.
In my opinion, vegetarianism does reduce carbon footprint to a certain extent, but there is so much more we can do. I think its the overproduction of food, food wastage and other stuff that humans do, which can be improved, to reduce carbon footprints.
Btw kimchi also have fish sauce, Leah.
