Hollyoaks just puts gay characters in relationships with other gay characters just because they're gay. Not because they're right for each other.
Harry and James were the best together but Kirkwood made Harry get murdered just to satisfy his desire for constant suffering happening to HO's character
james and harry were toxic. it wasn't a relationship built on trust (given that they literally got together through cheating). harry was too immature for james, and they had too much history to work out (harry's prostitution, ste, james drugging him etc etc). james and ste have history, yes, but built nothing on the fact that they fell for the same guy (john paul & harry). they never had a true reason to hate one another - they just tried to get at each other out of spite and jealousy. but their relationship actually makes sense, especially after all the county lines stuff. james needs someone who's gonna challenge him (which is why he and kyle were a good match, if you ignore all the plotting).
