Eating Insects in Japan

- Eating insects is becoming more popular around the world but I would never expect eating grasshoppers from a tinned can in Japan. Mr. Kanso is one of the most unique restaurants in Osaka. A tiny food bar serving 300 different kinds of canned foods from all over the world ranging from canned BBQ eel to canned sea urchin to canned stewed grasshoppers. Subscribe to my channel ► bit.ly/2aeuh9b for weekly videos!
The bar is cheaper than your common restaurant due to not having a kitchen, no chef, no menu's and no waiter but due to the rareness of certain cans prices can vary quite a bit.
We selected the following 5 canned foods for our Mr. Kanso ultimate review; Unagi (BBQ eel), Toritama (chicken meat + chicken egg), Dashimakitamago (sushi egg roll), Buta (heated stewed pork) and Inago (stewed grasshoppers).

My friends Yuri and Momo from Osaka joined me on this crazy canned food adventure, it was their first time at Mr. Kanso as well. Remarkably, they had never heard of this place before making it a hidden secret in Osaka every tourist should check out.
The grasshoppers turned out to be more delicious than initially anticipated. Due to still being quite crunchy, it had a nice sweet flavor and taste more like chips than the remnants of a nasty insect.
In conclusion, my favorite canned food was the unagi, BBQ eel but the dashimakitamago (cold sushi egg roll) came very close. It makes sense since the dashimakitamago is their best-selling item.
I want to thank my friends Momo and Yuri for joining me on this food adventure, it was a lot of fun.
Please let me know if you would like to see Momo and Yuri again in a future Reformatt episode.

I guess I'm kinda off topic but does anyone know a good site to stream newly released series online ?
@Ramon Bodie i would suggest FlixZone. Just search on google for it :)
I've never tried inago in a can but I tried caramelized inago in Nagano prefecture back in 2013 in a ryokan and it was pretty good.
This man is so underrated, his energy and video production quality are top notch
Matt !!! with all the good places to eat …. can food. :D
Go to Oaxaca, Mexico. They have freshly collected grasshoppers. They have garlic, toasted, and chili flavors. They are so good and taste great on avocado or with a beer 😉
I did not know, thank you for the tip!!!
We really enjoyed watching 👀❤️🥰
Thank you for watching ❤️❤️
Woah, this video helped my fear of grasshoppers.. a bit x D
hahaha, sorry about that :p

Hey Matt, I love your videos! How good is your Japanese at the moment? :)
I'm moving to tokyo soon and I was wondering how much of an impact knowing the language would make. I assume it's a big factor in meeting people and making friends!
Learn as much as you can, culture, language, practices, it will make integrating a lot easier
Hey I really like your intro. I’ve been thinking of uploading travel videos as well. What editing app do you use?
I use adobe premiere to edit these videos
Very interesting Matt! I would NOT eat this delicacy hehe, nor invite huh😜😜
hi silvia, you'd be surprised how tasty the grasshoppers were. I really like them, it's like crunchy chips
@@Reformatt rssss
So Matt, do the grashoppers taste like chicken ?:p haha you are so brave, the sight alone almost made me vomit
To be frank, the grasshoppers tasted like sweet crunchy chips with a charcoal after taste. Quite enjoyable to say the least haha
@@Reformatt That was the last thing i expected to hear haha:-)! Gotta admit you keep finding weirder and weirder stuff in Japan well done :p
I thought china is weirder but when i saw this i think both of them
that japanese flag on the introduction should not be used. it is same for countries which got brutally attacked by japn as nazi flags
I have been told that
