- I share with you guys 5 tips to TRANSFER out of community college and into a University. These tips are great advice regardless of your goals and what University you want to transfer out to. Get out of Community College and transfer to a four year university ASAP with these 5 tips and advice.

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking your time. Life happens you know, and sometimes life throws curveballs at us and we taking different turns. The way I see it is we're going to be working all our lives, so taking your time or not graduating on time is also okay.

At my Private College they gave us a transcript of classes we need to take for our certain major. I went for B.S and I took it incredibly serious 😭 I sucked in h.s and it hurt to not be able to get into my dream school, so I studied to the max, but I had to remember to care for myself. I graduate with my Associates with straight A’s. I got into all the universities I’ve applied to for this fall and I’m so scared. The thing that worked the best for me was creating a schedule that worked for me, it was different every semester, it’s not the easiest time but it’s not impossible.

@@jibnerjuarez4288 it’s not I promise, I graduated with a 2.9 gpa but when I applied to colleges I was a 2.4.
Personally community college was a chance to ‘redeem’ myself - I also came to realize that I was in a disadvantage to many of my peers, in terms of the education I received in high school and elementary (low income). I didn’t let my ‘hs record’ or my disadvantages stop me- I’m studying at a big 10 university on a full ride now. No, It’s not over, I promise it’s not.
There’s no shame of taking 9 years to get your bachelors degree. I think a lot of people just assume once you graduate from HS; you have four more years of college to get your degree. It took my dad 9 years just to get his for accounting and my mom 7ish years for her nursing. There’s a lot things that happen in life where you have to stop and deal with them. As long as you keep going to what you want you will get there. That’s why I’m struggling ( HS graduate 2020) and I’m a freshman at a community college after getting rejected from UT. I just have to work extra harder to get where I’m going. With this whole COVID thing online is not ideal to get like my GPA or doing extra curricular but I’m thinking of doing my own things to stand out.
Thank you for pointing this out. My wife, 28 years old, is going to start nursing school soon, I'm 30, and finally now I'm in school as well. It is time consuming when you have kids, and also have to work full-time to keep up with your bills. Its not easy. I regret not starting any sooner but happy I am doing this now along with my wife. We want to make it too.
The best advice I got years ago was to use your time wisely. In high school I always got “Ds” and "Fs” because I would leave everything till the end. Once I organized my time I started getting “As” only.
im having trouble with this and im in my first time in community college it’s such a bad habit i really hate it. i. don’t know what to do but i want to make my mom proud i want to be able to each PhD level but i don’t know where or how to start

Honestly I am more than appreciative that you making this video for us (the audience) and mostly sharing your story with getting your journey through what you went through. I believe that in life everything is going to take time and there will be a huge curve in the way when unexpected. Take this from a person who is going through that stage that you are. And congrats on getting your bachelors degree. You have rightfully earned it on your own.

😭 They literally just tell you to make sure you have 60 transferable units, pass your classes, and apply to the universities a year before transfer.
this helped me a lot. as a first gen i have no one to help me. i graduated from hs in 2019 and im 3 semesters into cc right now and im starting to doubt my major and i plan on switching. if i have to wait an extra year or two to graduate that won’t be a problem for me. i just want to find something that interests me. once i do ill try to do as many cc classes i can and transfer to a university :)
It sounds like you are on the right track, changing majors is sooo common. I love your motivation, you can do it!

Going to cc really allows you to be flexible on changing majors so that was a good move on you. Not to mention you save a lot of money as well! Best of luck on your journey

Kind of makes me feel better I’m currently 21 and felt I was so far behind and I couldn’t go to school anymore, ima try the community college route because my high school years weren’t the best

I dropped out of high school 15 years ago and I'm transferring to UC Irvine next fall(slight chance of getting into Berkeley or LA). My GPA was well under 1.0 in hs, and now I maintain a 3.9. Don't lose hope!!

Great vid! Do you recommend your cc to be local to the transfer university? I would assume some communities have connections and trust build and you can network vs say across the country where your community college is unknown.
Thanks! Yes some CCs have connections to the local university. However, they dont gaurantee admission. I got denied from my local university lol Your best bet is to make sure you fill all of their prerequisites and get good grades.

This is very helpful. I will be earning my associate degree in general studies from a community college this year in the summer. However, I will be taking my CLEP for Spanish Language Level 1 & 2 to receive 8 credits. Also, it took my stepdad 6 years for earning his BA degree in psychology. He had his associate degree in technology and general studies. He also had his first MA degree in family and marriage counseling. For right now, he is working on his second MA degree in management, and he will be graduating with my second MA degree this year in May. Also, I always see him as my real dad because I grew up with him. My mom had her associate degree in tourism and hospitality airlines. I graduated from high school in 2016. During my first time attending to a community college, I took one course at a time. During my second semester, I took two courses. When I transferred from state to state for another two years, I took two courses first. A year after, I had to take one course at a time because I had struggled with two to three courses. When I transferred my community college credits from state to state again for another three years, I took two courses during my first two semesters. After the pandemic had started, I took one course at a time in online for the summer, fall, and spring semester from last school year in 2020-21. Once I went back to campus, I went back to take two courses. From this past fall semester, it was my first time being on the Dean's List. I have been studying at a community college for 6 years. Time has been flying. That's great that you have been taking 9 years on earning your BA degree. All its matter is that you made it to your grad school. Good for you. Also, I have autism. I have been qualifying for disability services for 6 years. I am a military child, so I had to move from state to state for every 2-3 years; then I lived in Virginia for seven months, and I lived in Puerto Rico for a year. For right now, I am living in Florida. I have been living here for almost 3 years because I have moved from Maryland to Florida in June 2019. I was at age 21 when I moved here to Florida. For right now, I am 24 years old. My book title is called My Life Throughout with Autism and Being a Military Child. If you want to know which states that I lived in before, my book will be ready to publish sometime in this fall semester. Also, great job with your video. Your video is very helpful to me. My dream career is to be a singer, actor, and journalist on television. After I complete with my AA degree in general studies, I will be taking my fall semester off from university; then do acting studio and music academy to do my training to learn about the job that relates to television. @@NereStyle thank you very much, really appreciate it. I do know that moving so much must be very hard. I had to switch schools because of my stepdad’s job in the military. Next year, he will retire from the military. He will be working as a business man after he retires from the military. He has been serving in the military for 19 years which it will be in May. Next year, he will be completing 20 years in the army. Then, he will retire from the army. As said before, I always call him dad because I grew up with him. He is the man who raised me as a child. You will most likely be considered a Junior as a transfer student. However, if you don't have enough credits complete, and depending on whether or not you take Summer courses, you may have to stay longer. It happens! Everyone's story is different.

Did all of your credits transfer over? I got my associates recently & got into the UNI I wanted and it’s a very prestigious university so I’m very nervous transferring over. Also, how did your CC experience differ from your Uni experience? I feel like CC was a breeze but kind of stressful at times.
Yes, my credits transferred over. You will do great, remember to always have a plan! Personally I didn't like my CC experience because other than science, I didn't enjoy most of my general education classes. Once I transferred I felt intrigued by my studies that were focused on my major. I would say that was the biggest difference.

what did you need letters of recommendations for? do you need recommendations to apply to a 4 year college after cc? I am on my way to finish my aa/as and I am really looking into what I need to get into the college I want. Did you get into your school of choice? were you in an impacted major?
Hi Maddy. Yes, many schools ask for letters of recommendation. They may ask for 2-3 or even 4 letters of rec. It's great to have a top choice but have back up plans as well. I went with a backup plan and I ended up loving my school. My major was impacted, at this point most majors are.
im struggling rn. i got into my top state school but im unsure if i should attend as they are asking for a bit much and ik that CC is a great choice financially. I want to transfer but everyone is pushing me to go to uni but i really think the only good thing about it is to have the full college experience which i see as overrated….

You will need to talk to your schools, but I'm pretty sure yes, most of your credits will transfer over. You may need a couple of prerequisites depending on school and your major.
I’m in the same boat. I graduated high school in 2014 and is still at a CC. My goal is to transfer to SDSU( San Diego State University) and I’m not sure if anything can help me get in. What advice do you have that could help me out?
Hey are you on track to transfer? What is your major? I'd look into that major and use assist.org to make sure you're taking the right classes or talk to your counselor. Also have a couple more back up options and apply to other schools as well.
Some of my other options are UCSD, UTSA, or a dolphin training college in the Florida keys. My goal is to be a animal trainer with a degree in Zoology
Does getting in CC to Uni works in any program? I mean I can’t find any CC that has architecture program in it and i’m completely lost.
Idk about architecture but most CC will definitely let you finish your basics or take classes leading up to a architecture degree to which you’ll then transfer into a UNI which will have the degree you are looking for.

Hey congratulations! This decision is very personal and I'm sure there will be pros and cons to each program. I would research each one and outline pros/cons to each, figure out what is most important to you and go from there. Also try finding facebook groups where you can directly ask students from those schools any questions you have! This has helped out so many times. Best of luck!

Hi! Yes you would most likely transfer as a Junior student, since your credits will transfer over :)
so I currently attend a CC now but I only have 30 credits right now. I will be getting my A.A. next year in May but I was wondering if I apply to a University now would they still accept me even though I haven't received my A.A. yet?
As long as you put in your applications that you are in the process of obtaining an A.A. by the end of your spring semester before you transfer, you should be on track. You don’t need to have your A.A. By the time of applying.
You’ll need 60 credits to be considered a junior when you transfer if you plan to finish in 2 years at another university. And completing an A.A. helps you accomplish that. You should definitely look at your University’s website for a credit transfer translator to make sure the classes you’ve taken will transfer, because you might be short of credits if they don’t transfer. If that is the case, I would also recommend asking your university how you can petition for a class that doesn’t transfer to be transferable. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s worth a try. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to make sure that you take classes in the future that will count as a transferable class.
All I wanna know is is it possible to transfer from CC to university and start university as a junior instead of a freshman? I dont get a clear answer cause lots of people I know go to CC, then transfer to a 4 year but still have to do 4 years at the university
Hi Michelle, the best way to know is by looking at how many units/credits you have attained in your desired major. Your status is not determined by years but rather by credits. Technically, you can transfer to a university after 2 years then still need 4 years to complete the credits you have remaining. It may take people longer when they don't take the right classes, change their majors or when and they have to meet requirements for their classes. Sometime people have jobs and can't fit in a full time school schedule and it takes them longer. Hope this helps?!

Hi, I'm sorry I don't know those specifics. I think the work permit is granted with requirements that pertain to students continuing their education but through the government.

Depending on the classes you’ve taken. Its possible to transfer college credits from one school to another.

Hi! Some of the credits that you’ve completed in community college will be transferable. Your counselor will be able to tell you how many can transfer over. That will then be deducted from your overall credits needed at a university. So it depends how many clases you still need to satisfy a bachelors degree :)
Do you know what degree you need if you’re going to a college out of state? And the chances of accepting you if you finish in 3 years and not two? I want to go to Pace university in NY and I’m trying to map out my classes I still need right now but I have no idea what I’m doing and won’t be able to talk to a counselor in time
Hi! I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter how long it takes you, 2 or 3 years to transfer, what matters is your gpa. Email an admissions counselor from that university, and they will help you determine whether a degree to transfer will be useful or necessary. Best of luck!

A bit embarrassing to admit, I was taking terms off and withdrawing A BUNCH. Life got in the way, so 8yrs. but I am happy I kept going and it’s definitely paid off :)

For anyone else whos reading, yes, CC to an actual 4 year is probably a huge step up in education rigor, you have to keep that in mind and never give up, if you’ve gotten straight A’s all throughout your CC career, it will probably be a bit easier of a transition

No. Just take the classes you need and try to take 4 or 3 classes per semester. If you do this you will have a lot of units within two years and will probably be able to transfer and graduate faster. Also don’t take more than one class that will need a lot of your attention. An example is Linear Algebra and at the same time taking some engineering class like dynamics because you will overwhelm yourself especially if you work. Only do this if you have enough time to study for these classes.
