First, potty pads are not only disgusting and nasty, but they are also quite expensive.
Instead, build your Chihuahua a nice size litter box.
For instance, I bought a high sided 24 x 18 plastic container at Wal-Mart for $13.00 plus tax which was the same size as my Chihuahua's doggy crate, and then cut an opening out on one end of it large enough so my little chihuahua could fit through it easily. Then I lined the bottom of that new litter box with a one inch layer of pine pellets. As including tax, I bought a 40 pound bag of pine pellets at Tractor Supply for $7.50.
Next, I pushed the litter box opening side to the opening side of my Chihuahua's doggy crate so she would sleep and play in her doggy crate and then eliminate at will in her litter box.
Worked like a charm. In three weeks she completely trained herself to always eliminate in her litter box.
Moreover, because my Chihuahua never goes outside, I don't have to worry about douching her with dangerous chemicals to eliminate fleas, ticks, and heart worms.
Also I don't have to worry about if its snowing or raining or if its too hot or too cold. Not to mention all the time involved with having to take your dog outside repeatedly to eliminate. I also don't have to worry about leaving her home alone for extended periods of time.
All I do is clean out her litter box once a week and that takes me about 5 minutes at the most. To make that chore a bit easier for yourself buy a sifting litter box to use strictly for cleaning your Chihuahua's litter box.
I love my Chihuahua because she is dirt cheap to own and easy to train. She is also a lot of fun.
