- A quick and fun, pen and wash demonstration of my Urbansketching style. Easy to follow and learn.
The reference for this painting was a photo I took in Porto Portugal.
I was fortunate enough to have sketched this same image on location.

Thank you for Watching.
Sorry, no music on this one. - Jak na to + styl
There're a few things I like about this video: 1) The artist doesn't talk my ear off; 2) He uses real time speed; 3) The captions about what colors to use are very helpful; 4) The sketch leaves room for imaginning; 5) The techniques gives us ideas to develop our own style.
Charles Z I would like if he talked more tho. I don’t like the silence
Karaleigh Loya I play some music on another device whilst I watch and draw with him 🙂
@@always_cornelia Same!
Cristian Fabian Avila ✋🏼
I agree but I would like to see an Insert of what he is drawing from so I can better follow along.
Thank you for not making this a speed paintig video like 99% of every other demonstration video I come across. People learn so much more when it is not a sped up video.
You're very welcome Ben. You're right about real-time speed. Thank you :)
Yes, I don't understand why they want to make the video in speed up :( everyone can do it on CZcams if they want. So thanks!
99% would slow the video down by one percent
But I do understand and agree with what you are saying
Edit: just realized that I am late af
Ben i agree. You learn more from seeing every brush or pen stroke.
It would be great if you could add the photograph you used to do the art
work. It would help us a lot to see what you pick from it and what you
leave out, how you choose the color to use, etc.
Alexis Gonzalez yessssss
Good idea.
Exactly! It would add even more to the lesson. We won't judge whether it's identical to the photo or some features were created; we want to learn that too. :D
Alexis Gonzalez technique how to is more important then how come.
I agree
I’ve become obsessed with your art! I’ve binged watch everything you’ve done and now I’m about to have a go. Absolutely love your pieces they’re just amazing. Thank you so much for sharing I will definitely be getting my family to buy some for my birthdays and Christmas’- my new WANTED list. 👍🏼🥰

Appreciated this instructional method, detailed, notes on screen with color info and approach to finish regarding shadows. Thank you.
Amazing! I love your style.
BRILLIANT!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING!!!❤
Thank you. You're 'quirky 'pen lines give so much character to the picture. I love the deep shadows and the detail of the lamp, washing line, chimney and green door and narrow streets. Very atmospheric.
+Graham Heywood . Thanks Graham. Quirky is king. I intentionally make sure my lines are not straight and even. Peter
Spellbound! A difficult sketch done so easily... thanks for the great tutorial 👌👌👌
One of my favorites:) Very easy to follow along especially with the pen work.
Thank you for showing up on my CZcams feed. I also watercolor sketch. You have inspired me. Thanks.

It's just like being a child again, discovering things for the first time :
' Oh ! It's the underside of a roof ! Oh, and that's a balcony !'
Great comments Ryan. Thanks so much
Urban sketching is soo relaxing and fun! Great vid.
Wonderful. I love Porto...
Thanks
Thank you for opening my mind about pen and ink and watercolor sketching.
Love all your drawings!
I love the silence. No music. No talking. No background noise. This video allows me to focus on the drawing and water colour technique. Thank you !
Thanks Tiggy. Any relation to Ziggy and those spiders.
@@PeterSheelerart ....hahaha....thank you Peter for recognizing the connection. My youngest sister calls me Tiggy. One day when I was away on a school trip, she listened to my David Bowie's Albums without my permission. After she heard the song Ziggy Stardust she nicked named me Tiggy Stardust, because I'm left handed and an Aries (ruled by the planet Mars).
By the way, I subscribed to your channel. I really love your work. You are an amazing artist.
i just tried following along with this and it turned out nicely for my third time trying watercolor! you have a wonderful art style. definitely looking forward to seeing your other videos.
By far the best tutorial / follow along video on watercolors I have come across all month !! Thanks so much ! Pure art , nothing chatty or sped up ! Brilliant

Tried it and doesn’t look too bad. Thanks, learned a lot by doing it.
Thank you for taking the time to record and upload so many videos. I think it's just so generous of you to share your skills with strangers, especially for free. Truly, thank you. I've wanted to take painting classes but local classes have not been in my budget. Somehow, searching CZcams had never previously crossed my mind.
I'm so thankful I stumbled upon your videos. It's nearly 4 am and I'm still up watching your demos, in awe at how quickly you can produce such beautiful paintings.
I am so inspired to try my hand at painting after watching your videos (and, of course, after I get some rest.)
Such beautiful work in every painting!
LOL It's tough to paint when you're tired ;) Thank you for those very kind words. Peter
Great video! Its very generous of you to share your experience and insight. Us beginners really appreciate it!!

+Lee Barnes . Thank you Lee. Glad I've inspired you to give it a try. I've only been doing line and wash for about a year myself. Peter

Thanks so much. I only have two time-lapse out of over 100 videos. :)
The way you sketch is so fascinating! It’s so simple and so lively!
Keep it up and God bless!
You have been a great inspiration for me. We have so many beautiful places here in Greece and every day I say "I have to draw this". Thank you for showing me that it is not that complicated.
Thank you very much. Always nice to hear I've inspired. I've traveled through Greece. I must do some paintings from your great country!!! :)
I tried this today and I’m about to cry out of happiness, it’s so beautiful , Thank you sir I won’t share it in my social media so the credit will stay yours .
So good, well done!
So awesome and inspiring. Thanks for sharing👍🏻
Thank you very much Paul :)
OH THIS IS WHAT THE STYLE IS CALLED! I've been absolutely in love with this style and have been to trying to find tutorials without knowing what it's called and not finally I found out it's called line/pen and wash !! I love it
Line and wash is a great form. Lines establish edges and watercolor rapidly adds volume by adding value. It doesn't take long to create a finished work, so it is great for travel.
Beautiful sketch. Love the look of pen and wash.
Thank you Amy :)
this is so calming
Thank you for “no sound”. I really appreciate it.
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching :)
That's awesome! I can't stop watching your videos, Peter! I really adore your style! Hope one day I'll be able to draw at least a half good as you

Thank you. I've been dabbling in line and wash city scenes but didn't know what to call it or more importantly how to achieve all the layers and shadowing. Love the look. Can't wait to get home and try it.
Thank you very much. Always nice to hear I've inspired :)
This looks amazing, I will try to do the same. I hope it turn out good too 😊
I love the free expression in your style. The looseness and lack of precise perfection is inspirational.

This was fantastic. Thanks Peter - my favourite style is pen sketching, and I love your style. It's so difficult to find other artists that sketch in the loose style I aspire too. I'm so happy that I found this video. Haven't sketched in a few days, and this one has inspired me to get my pen and water color pencils out. Love it!

Very kind words. Greatly appreciated. Peter :)
I love the way you sketch those buildings
Is it possible to do this on a hot pressed paper?
This was done on Arches 140lb Hot Press. My favorite paper :)
Snowy Nightcore I would actually suggest using got press if you intend on a loser sketch with a few broken lines
Hank Fratus what kind of difference does it make?
WOW!! Just WOW
Thank you very much Vivien
Just downright spectacular. Love the entire result and method of communicating the techniques. Hugely helpful. Really appreciate you posting this.

This took my way out of my comfort zone as a 1 year beginner but it was wonderful. Thank you.
Just got into watercolor (I usually paint with oil) and I've been watching your videos to analyze your use of shadows and how you mix ! watercolor has quite the learning curve but I'm learning a lot from you ! thank you !
Thank you very much. Always great to hear I've helped in some way :)
