That!!! If you don’t like the price, don’t get it!!! There are places I’ve been where at first I’m like this is a little expensive but it looks really nice and thought out and paid the price. Didn’t like it so guess what? Never went back! But when I did go I saw regulars who were paying a crap ton of money for like 12 cupcakes. Obviously somebody liked it. Sometimes when I go somewhere and think the product is better than it’s priced I give a nice tip, something towards the hard work. But there will always be someone who will like your product enough to give you what you deserve and maybe more
I think the prices that you did or absolutely accurate because I don’t think people realize how much it cost for food now like cake and even the details on that you can easily messed that up and it would cost a lot more so I definitely think what you put with the right amount
Prices varies with practice, as a beginner you charge low because you are just practicing and when you feel like you are getting better and can do more you keep raising the prices. $75 I feel is low. Your cake looks amazing✨

People will only buy expensive stuff to feel something. She chose a great price and honestly I think she should raise it as the months come and she gets more customers
The pricing really depends on the size, time it takes to make and resources for decoration. As my mum owned a cake business, I could see all the time and effort she put into her cakes. Sometimes people will be mad about pricing because they think it’s too expensive, but the thing is it’s up to the person who makes the cake as they know how much effort was put into it. My mum would be working over long nights just to make sure the cake was as fresh as possible for customers. She put her everything in it💗

Do you live under a rock or have you not seen the price of items rising over the past few years? That’s even the store brand foods costing what was once the name brand prices. And name brand being a few dollars more then the store brands. That’s not including issues like shortages causing a high price in times like what happened with eggs. Are people seriously not understanding a single pack of something like butter with four sticks can cost anywhere between 3(if very lucky), to 6 dollars. Before you comment about prices why not check your store and look at the prices of items used in making cake or buttercream. It’s not as cheap as some seem to think currently.

It’s more about your target market and how valuable your work is to your customers. In my area you would never sell a 75 dollar cake, no one could afford it. However where you live might be different. It’s all about circumstances and how many cake makers are in your area, the more there are the lower your price will be due to competition. All in all only you can tell whether this is a good price and not us.
I truly believe one of the biggest factors with difference prices that people over the internet shouldn’t be giving too much advice on is because of the area you live in… my backwoods area 75 bucks is too much, but I’m sure for NYC that cake would go for more… You did a great job on it! I truly love it!
True. I live in a rural area and $35-45 would be reasonable….maybe even a little pricey for the specific cake she made in this video today. (Small, no special decorations, fondant, topper, flowers, etc….just a plain cake with icing.). But I know in other places it would be worth what she’s charging. Truly, it completely depends on where you live and how much demand there is for stuff like this. Personally, I don’t pay more than $30 for a cake of this size with nothing special about it. Like a special flavor, filling, or decorations. Basically, if I can make it myself with no problem, I’m not gonna pay that much money for it. But if it’s something special, difficult, big, or needs real talent (like sugar flowers or some fancy icing work), then I’d be willing to pay more.
Nawwwww, I'm in the Midwest and would charge , $90 for this cake. It takes money to buy what you need especially if you don't have material on hand including the cake board and box you package it in. Folk never want to include that part. Ingredients and material to bake from scratch could be about $25 for this cake. It also depends on the size they want. The bigger the cake, the more ingredients it takes. The butter just to make the buttercream from scratch is not cheap. She then has to pay herself for time and labor which is per hour. She doesn't wanna make $5/hour. She wants to make $15-$20/hour like a lot of other people working make then she also needs to make a profit as well. Y'all want people to make crumbs and only charge y'all for the ingredients and material. It's not worth it if that's the case.
@@gurltalk I see that and I understand. It’s not that I think her cakes aren’t worth that much because you’re right, it would cost $30 or more to make. And you’re right that if she only charged what we view as reasonable, it wouldn’t be worth it for her. I’m just saying for me, personally (I don’t have a lot of disposable income) I wouldn’t want to pay that much for something I can do myself. That’s why I need it to be something I can’t do easily myself either filling or decorating-wise. That doesn’t mean I think her prices are unfair or that she’s charging too much, just that it’s too much for me personally. I also don’t hire people to paint my house or any walls. Your time is valuable. If someone wants Walmart prices, they can just go to Walmart. If they want handmade, then they'll pay your prices without complaining. Your price is reasonable
If business owners had that kind of mindset, their business would fail before it even hit the ground. Your goal is to take the Wal-Mart customers and keep them coming to your business. Your job is to convince us why we should pay your prices for something we could get at Wal Mart for a fraction of that. You don't own a business, right? I think the $75 heart shaped cake is more than appropriate. You have a great gift as an artist . Not many people could make a cake like this, which is amazing looking. You also need to factor in all of the time you spent on buying the products, making the cake, and dealing with all of the sale aspects including marketing. Don't sell yourself short.
I’d pay $60 tops for a cake like this. Stunning work
You only say that until youre the one getting low profit from your passion that you want to make (at least im assuming) a long term career. $75 is pretty fair as ingredients arent cheap

Right. I feel like 45 to 60 is a reasonable markup. 75 dollars? She’s trippin.
Customers do not make the prices. It takes time, ingredients and talent. 75 is reasonable but in NY it would go for 90-120 easily.
@@kla631But NY is also one of the most expensive states to live in, so things in general there cost more. This cake is worth $45-$60 tops.
When people buy art, they aren't just paying for materials. They're paying for all that practice and time you've put in to have the skills you do.
Charge what YOU NEED to make a profit and feel like you're worth. People who want it will still purchase and appreciate your work, and people who think it's too expensive don't have to order if they don't wanna. Nobody is hurt in the end!
I couldn't agree with this more! Remember, you aren't just paying for the item/service, your paying for all the time and money and effort they put in for creating art, or in this case, baking.
But there will always be someone who will like your product enough to give you what you deserve and maybe more
Oh okay...
I though i was buying a heart shaped cake to eat....
I didn't know i could auction it for profit..

As a baker, I’m glad you raised your price. You are way too talented to be selling yourself short.
Prices varies with practice, as a beginner you charge low because you are just practicing and when you feel like you are getting better and can do more you keep raising the prices. $75 I feel is low. Your cake looks amazing✨

If you weren’t making profit from 45 than you were severely underpriced and some of your materials may be overpriced. Cause even if 45 is underpriced for effort and time, there is not way materials should be that much so that you aren’t making even 5 dollars from that. But good for you for raising it to 75 your price for selling anything should be material price times 3.
It’s not as cheap as some seem to think currently.

let’s not forget inflation for ingredients too
It’s more about your target market and how valuable your work is to your customers. In my area you would never sell a 75 dollar cake, no one could afford it. However where you live might be different. It’s all about circumstances and how many cake makers are in your area, the more there are the lower your price will be due to competition. All in all only you can tell whether this is a good price and not us.
I truly believe one of the biggest factors with difference prices that people over the internet shouldn’t be giving too much advice on is because of the area you live in… my backwoods area 75 bucks is too much, but I’m sure for NYC that cake would go for more…
You did a great job on it!
It’s expensive and I can do it myself. It doesn’t mean I think there shouldn’t be painters, it just means I personally won’t be their customer. You can agree that something is worth a certain price and still not be willing to pay that much.

Your time is valuable. If someone wants Walmart prices, they can just go to Walmart. If they want handmade, then they'll pay your prices without complaining. Your price is reasonable
Exactly
If business owners had that kind of mindset, their business would fail before it even hit the ground.
Your goal is to take the Wal-Mart customers and keep them coming to your business. Your job is to convince us why we should pay your prices for something we could get at Wal Mart for a fraction of that.
You don't own a business, right? B/c a business owner wouldn't give that kind of advice nor would they listen to someone who has a view like yours...
@@AlBundyy As a business owner, I can tell you with certainty, your business model would fail for any small business

“Your goal is to take the Walmart customers and keep them coming to your business. Your job is to convince us why we should pay your prices for something we could get at Walmart for a fraction of that”
Being two separate market segments and demographics; a person who orders cakes from Walmart typically would opt for quantity over quality. There’s a good chance they’ve never ordered a cake that hasn’t been mass produced, frozen / thawed, and would see no reason to even go to a “real” bakery or cake maker.
Point being; a small business cake maker would have more success aiming for clientele who are in a higher income bracket that can afford quality vs quantity. The client would care more about taste than price, etc
@@libralillyknitsWhat kind of business do you run?
Here, we are talking about a woman who is baking cakes in her kitchen. Where she is decorating it on one counter and family members are eating on the other side of the counter at the same time. Personally, I would not purchase b/c of that. And she will need to improve in her cake decorating.
For me, the "quality" does not seem to be much different than a Wal Mart cake. That is why I am asking... what makes her cakes better than what I can get at the grocery stores?
If 2 businesses are selling the "same thing"... should one count out potential customers under the assumption that the customer who purchases from the other business probably wouldn't want to spend or couldn't afford their product? (Not only comparing it to Wal Mart. I honestly don't even know what kind of cakes Wal Mart has. I'm referencing grocery stores who have a bakery and make their cakes inside their stores.)
