i think factorio lacks branching progression the best experiences i had were when i had to choose if i want nuclear solar or fuel energy i know there are deathworld and mods that change progression so its different than usual but adding variety in alternative resources or solutions to some problems would add a lot to factorio

The new update seems to get that in some ways, being able to choose what planet to go to first and the new quality feature!

lacks branching progression? you apparently didn't play very far into the game. dozens upon dozens of items and techs ... and that's before mods

Im always so scared to open up Factorio after a while
Because I know its gonna be the ONLY thing I play, at an unhealthy amount

But also its very very silly, to say the game got stagnant while refusing to something you needed to do to ease that feeling of stagnation. It is not the games fault you didn't want to expand

The message I was trying to convey is that I have built farms outside my base, 2 iron and 2 copper, and I don’t want to do it again. I want to see something new, I don’t want to go and build that again, its more of the same.
But I was supper excited to make my 1st uranium farm and see what was that all about.

One Point regarding the "exponential" scaling, try to automate all parts of a factory (belts, inserters, assemblers, power poles, ...), setup a connected grid of roboports and just use crtl+c and crlt+v to replicate whole furcace/crafting setups and let the robo army build it in a short while. To further improve this you can create blue prints eg. store you clipbord for later mulitple reuse.

the thing is that the game gives you the tools to scale up. and automate even the tiniest things, early on. and that is why its fun to do several runs. cause you learn so much new. i do think there there is a lack of enemies and vehicles though

You can automate your defenses with lasers, and artillery turrets behind walls.. shouldnt need to run around and kill the bases in the endgame. unless you are expanding to a new area for ore.
There will always be points in the game though, that you need to let the factory run for a little bit. Its not an action all the time kind of game.

I recommend getting all achievements (maybe except the speed run ones) before playing with mods

Some of the achievements are basically you are producing 10k now produce 100k, so all you have to do is 10x your setup. I can’t see people having a ton of fun doing that, most likely they will just move on.

I have completed some of achievements by chance just by adding mods
