That's a great question. Most places I know of use standard food grade flavors you can search places like Amazon or restaurant supply stores for bases. For me it's just easier to use a carp flavor company. Check out hawg sauce flavors they have several good ones and reasonably priced.
Got that tractor supply sweet feed never liked it we have a feed hill in town that I get mine from it’s actually still sticky from the molasses and has a salty sweet smell and it works was better
Carp and Catfish Baits Tips Tricks and Techniques they owned the pet store I used to work for and I got a bag from there when they gave us a discount and it sealed to not work near as good I would glue it with molasses and it was better but not as good

Makes the bait last can use it till it's gone that way. If you use corn it rots shortly after.

It will dry out over time just add a little syrup to it and it will start packing again

Yes you can get creative up your using a dry flavor mix it into the dry ingredients
Does it matter about all purpose or self rising flour
I have used both and it didnt seem to matter on my end. I usually go with all purpose though.
I notice your buckets say better creme on them. Is that some sort ingredient you use?
The buckets I use are from a bakery . They originally come with icing in them for like donuts and cakes I believe.

Going to a lake where the carp is off the bottom but a foot from the top.. any suggestions?
Carp sun everywhere but still feed on the bottom. If there in close enough you can use just plain old bread.

Leave it in a bucket it's a syrup bait it doesn't go bad. It will dry out though just add more syrup and your good to go
