On May 20, 1918, the Turks massacred here the population of the village of Jajur and provinces of Alexandropol and Gharakilisa. In November 1920, Turkish troops carried out a second massacre, killing about 12,000 people from about 50 villages.
There is now a small genocide memorial here.
