  • Five inch freestyle drones are pretty much the standard in FPV, but let’s be honest, most are heavy, and with remote ID around the corner, you’ll be forced to register to stay compliant. Well, what if there was a 5-inch drone that weighed under 250 grams? That’s now possible with the Tony5. So lets take a look, and see what makes this frame so special. I finished my Tony build last week. I'm at 242g. Naked 03, Foxeer 45A aio with mp6000 and bluejay, brotherhobby 2004 1700kv, HQ triblades, 380 6s, and even a strip of green cob leds. Praying for a warm day to send it on a maiden. Very nice quality on the carbon and the cutting.

      Sounds like a cool setup. That’s a lot of potential with O3 and 55Amp ESC. I’m guessing battery size can make or break the 250 gram limit. I’m going to try 4S for now. 242 grams is very impressive. Thanks!

      @OneManUnmanned yeah ,no worries!
      I might as well fully disclose, but to get to this weight, I made some concessions. First, that battery strap is beautiful, but massive overkill at 5 or 6 grams, so I'm running a micro strap that's about 2 grams and is still plenty strong enough combined with the ummagawd (which I also cut down since it's longer than the battery), I'm using titanium m2 and some aluminum M3 hardware (stack screws are still steel, as are areas where needed for crazh strength), the Foxeer aio is only 8.6g vs the Speedybee at 10.1g. I fully naked8zed the 03 including the camera, then made new mounting pads from lightweight high density foam. The led strip is a 5cm long 4mm wide 6s cob that is wired up using 32 gauge magnet wire.
      So obviously I've compromised on durability, but this isn't a basher anyways, I live on the open prairies and we don't even really have many trees, so this is kind of an open park flyer that I can rip at the park in the middle of my small town. My goal was to see if I could get loooong flights by staying under 250g and run a 530mah 6s. If I lose another 5 g, I can do that at 249g...lol.
      This is mostly an experiment and by the time I'm done playing and just want to go rip hard, I'll replace it all of the hardware with high strength steel. I'm a licensed pilot, so 250g rule is moot anyway, I just thought it would be a fun goal to try and achieve. These arms will fold in any significant crash anyways, and I have basher for that style of flying.
      Looking forward to the full build and test videos, Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁🎅👊🏻

      @@willpowerfpv3246 Wow that look a solid build. I'm a licenced pilot based in EU, but with the new regulations in Europe you only can fly FPV drones above 250g 150m from people. I do some off road races that sometimes have spectatores so I need to stick under 250g. What would be your advice for a similar drone and carry a naked gp 11/12 on it?

    Nice review! I was wondering why there are no reviews on this frame. Glad you made one 👍🏽

      Thanks, I appreciate it. I’m excited to get this one built as well. Thanks!

    Def gonna check this frame out. I would be scared about breaking an arm but it'll be fun crashing it!

      It’s a cool frame..I’m also curious about crashing it. Thanks!

    It's a 5 inch frame why does it only have 12x12 motor holes?

    Will this do 30x30 also ?

  • @djdubz

    Great video. Do you like this better than ummagawd's 2 fiddy frame?

    • @OneManUnmanned
      @OneManUnmanned  Před 6 měsíci

      I did check out the 2 Fiddy, but I don’t own it, so I can’t compare the two. They do look very similar though. I would assume they perform very similarly.

    Did you ever fly it? I looked through some videos after this one

    • @OneManUnmanned
      @OneManUnmanned  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I did fly it, but still in the tuning and reviewing phase. It's doesn't fly like a traditional 5 inch drone, but that might/should be expected since it's so much lighter than a regular freestyle drone.

  • @chrisbee5481
    @chrisbee5481 Před 6 měsíci +3

    Please complete the build and tell us how how it performs.
    I found a sub250g 5 inch is damn hard to tune.
    Also t mount on a 5" sucks.
    Personally I love 4"

    • @WindChillFPV
      @WindChillFPV Před 6 měsíci +2

      All true. I had a 2fiddy and tuning it was a B. Once I got it though it flew amazing. Gemfan had some 4.5” props that helped a lot with tuning (less prop wash). Might be worth trying some out if you can find them.

    • @chrisbee5481
      @chrisbee5481 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @@WindChillFPV The gemfan 4525 help to get a less floaty feel. But that is in the nature of an UL 5".
      My favourite props for the 5" UL so far are the Gemfan 5130. Tuning them was also more easy.
      Which UL 5" props do you like?

    • @WindChillFPV
      @WindChillFPV Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@chrisbee5481 my fave were the 4.5” gemfans but the HQ T5x2x3 also worked decent.

    I like the build. However, in my experience with arms that small will break easily. Its the curse of 250g.

      @OneManUnmanned 248 grams with 550 4s flies great actually about 4 and 1/2 min flight time
