In the wake of the ambulance crash that ended Season 1, medical director Dr. Max Goodwin grieves the death of his wife, Georgia, and learns the difficulties of being a single parent - all the while continuing his commitment to solve systemic health care issues at the hospital. Add in his new responsibilities as a father and with cancer still lingering in the rearview mirror, everyone around Max must wonder how long he can sustain this impossible load. But "How can I help?" is not just Max's catchphrase, it's his reason for living. As long as he's helping others, Max is able to find hope in the most hopeless of places. The cast includes Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman and Jocko Sims, with Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher.

Never watched the show, but the way they let people figure out that the person who flatlined was the wife was really well done. Didn't need to explain a thing.
I highly recommend watching it. It's excellent.

I was so confused till it got to the end and then I understood everything and started to cry 😢

The woman with the dislocated shoulder. 😮 ow. But if someone has to do that to me, don’t let me know it’s happening before you do it if it’s without pain meds. I mean in this they probably had no time and had so many patients they were dealing with
I dislocated my shoulder last year. My son, an EMT, had to put it back in for me as we weren't anywhere near a hospital. As he was prepping to do it he said, "I can't, Momma. I can't hurt you." I looked at him and said, "it's f&$cking hurting me now. Pop it back in RIGHT NOW!" HE SAID, "Look away then." As I turned my head away, he did so. Not going to lie. I screamed. I thought I was going to pass out. But after the moment passed, it felt so much better. A year of physical therapy, surgery 3 weeks ago, and starting today more therapy. In 3 to 6 months I should have full use of my shoulder.....

lol I used to work for the State Game Commission as a Wildlife and microbiologist before I went in emergency medicine and i frequently had to remove brain-stems (testing for things like rabies) and other parts from various animals like jaw bones from deer that were harvested since it told the age and health of the deer. There was A LOT of crunching, popping and splatting involved. I watched grown men and young boys run off to wretch in the bushes when I did that lol.

Telling the story of the lives of public healthcare workers in the fictional hospital of New Amsterdam, the premise is based on the autobiographical novel by Dr Eric Manheimer, Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital and follows the life of the lead character, Dr Max Goodwin.
In real life, Dr Eric Manheimer is married to Diana Taylor, who is a professor of performance studies and Spanish at New York University.
In the world of the series, Dr Max Goodwin was married to Georgia Goodwin, who tragically passed away during the premiere of the second season.

Love this show wish all hospitals got unlimited funding but healthy people don't make money?
Well, it's in Canada which is a more social based health network than private one, plus the hospital in it is supposed to be the best in the country so the experimentation with the limitless funding would be a go for a while at least.

@@serinadrake2818 depends on who you're going to. Also, if it's considered "alternative medicine"-which really means not controlled by big pharma- it's usually out of pocket or your access is very limited when using insurance.

Max was medical director at this hospital. His wife was on bed rest at home. Dr. Sharpe, the dislocation patient, performed an emergency C-section to deliver the baby, and an ambulance was transporting them all to the hospital when another ambulance, stolen by crazed patient at that hospital, crashed into them. The result was the trauma scene as Revealed through Max's flashbacks/hallucinations where we find out his wife didn't make it, leaving him a single father of a newborn who hallucinates his wife's presence.
Now back to the real world.
