I bought the course, not to learn how to sing (I don't have an interest in singing, but I'm a huge music listener), but just to learn more of how Marc sings, and catch him singing. I can't ever get enough of his voice! Well. I watched through all the vids, and I'm FLOORED! Loooove how you deconstructed some of his originals and his voice and the new examples and the mini-duets you performed together. I was in HEAVEN!

This is cool! I'm glad you've found so much joy in immersing yourself in the course! I agree with you! It's an incredible privilege to deconstruct and experiment with such a fine vocalist!

I'm just starting to do livestream and audio mixing for small live events (i.e. so our church can stream online), so I'm going to check out the producer level course! I love hearing Marc sing as well, and the casual production "geeky gear talk" is getting me inspired to want to do more.

In case anyone is wondering, Marc's coffee mug reads:
    "He sings like the wind blows;
    He's a man of mystery,
    A man of melodies,
    A man from Montreal..."

Thank you Chris, Marc, and Warren. There were so many amazing points you all made! I highly reccomend the course to all levels of singers. I can personally say that Chris is the most phenomenal singer, vocal teacher and coach who will bring out your voice and give the right mindsets for being a confident, and expressive singer.

Whenever I hear/think of Bob Dylan I always think of how there is a cover of one of his songs that is so highly regarded that even Dylan was like “yeah. That’s the better way to do my song.”

This is One of the best Video that I have watched on CZcams. And I still am watching. Marc you are a Superstar, thank you for being open. You are an Inspiration. Warrren I did not have you on my radar before, but I when you are talking I am deeply listening.
And you Chris. Your work is uncompared on YT. Now with your collaboration with David Walliman (One of the Best guitar teachers) and Marc you have become like the One channel for all my topics.

Loved how Warren shared about how he "manages" the studio production process with an artist to highlight the "interesting" and inspiring moments to draw out "more of that!" instead of making it seem like a chore. I can imagine that it would take all of the fun out of making music, and that doesn't inspire art to thrive and grow. And I think this kind of constructive criticism can apply to other environments as well.

To kind of go off the tone deaf stuff, when I hear things not mic’d it sounds fundamentally different then when I am listening to something through headphones/speakers and what it sounds like through headphones/speakers is what other people hear it as.
I can’t explain it and maybe I am the only one but god damn is the human body fascinating

I am fortunate to have the Townsend mic, bought it a couple months ago and it is an inspiring tool. It is fun to use and makes me feel like I'm in a fancy studio with all the best mics and all the time in the world to create -- I close my eyes and pretend I'm in the same studio as the Beatles haha But truthfully it helps me get into a certain place. I used it with my nephew recording over Christmas holiday and he felt similarly inspired. Fun stuff!

Thanks guys this is really incredibly awesome! I have subscribed to Chris, and most likely I will be buying the course. I am quite intrigued by the "two live calls" option in the Mastery Bundle. I wish there was some more information on what that entails! Is it live vocal training or just having a fun chat, meet and greet type of thing? Knowing that would really help me make a choice.
I would like to also give my own two cents about the Autotune discussion. When Autotune first came out I viscerally hated it (including the anger too, yes, haha), which in hindsight I think was because it 'violated' our pre-existing concepts of what it means to be a 'good singer'. Now, I don't look at it the same any longer. I still strongly dislike songs that rely on a clearly audible Autotune effect, but I accept that this is what some musicians do nowadays. I doubt I will ever get into that type of sound though - I guess I am just not of that generation ...
I still don't ever use Autotune on my own recordings. However, using Melodyne to correct small fragments/notes on an otherwise satisfactory (or great? I don't know if I have those) performance, is a different issue. I see that as one of the gazillion digital tools that we nowadays use to improve our recordings. It's no different from correcting the placement of a live recorded snare hit. The previous generation did that too, but the engineers had to cut actual tape and do something with their hands that was technically very difficult, and digital has just made that easier. I'm pretty sure they would have done small note corrections if they had the technology - and they probably did sometimes, by trying to punch the note in, comping, etc.
That's all! There are so many things in the digital age that have become easier, do we really want to be against that?
You guys have said it all, and you are 100% right. The emotion in the performance is what counts. Isn't it awesome though that you don't have to do a full retake on an energetic performance, just for one or two flat notes? I think it is. Not only a time-saver and a vocal chord saver, but also a frustration-decreaser, especially when you are doing everything by yourself in your home studio :) I see no shame in it either, because I think that even the vocal giants of the world hit a flat note every now and then.
One last thing: Warren is one of my main producer gurus that I am learning so much from - he is just MARVELLOUSLY WELL/awesome - and I have only now learned about Chris and Marc and you are obviously awesome too! Big round of applause for you guys for getting together, keep up the fantastic teaching that you all do, thanks so much for that! And sorry for the long post!

So my favorite singer is Jeff Gutt. He's the new Stone Temple Pilots singer, but what I'm really obsessed with is his songs and technique in his former band Dry Cell. There's just something to his tone that is absolutely unique and I'd be the happiest person if you could shine some light on what he does!! There's also some great performances on X-Factor - specifically Hallelujah - if you need more reference.

I have a question about the course: I love Queens backup harmony vocals. Does this course go into creating good background harmony parts?

Question to Chris or any other CZcamsrs who sing: Can you recommend a mask for singing that lets you breathe? I sing in rest homes and they need us to wear masks when we are singing, we got one off Amazon that was advertised as such but it's not living up to that promise. It's challenging to keep up support wearing a mask but we feel such a connection singing for our seniors and want to keep doing it, they love us and we love them right back. Can you recommend something that complies with the requirements and still lets us inhale?

Doesn’t citrus strip the vocal chords?

    • @chrisliepe

It can cause excess mucus when then leads to poor cord closure when singing which tires the voice out prematurely!

Hmmm, after like 5 billion people asking about how those mastery bundle calls would work - if individually scheduled or group calls or basically two more live streams that you can basically make it to or miss - and no answer, I think I'm gonna pass lol. Also: the course is still not properly linked in the description ;) One still has to copy and paste it into the url bar manually. Maybe add or something before it?! I don't know how linking on YT works, tho. Just an idea. :)

    • @chrisliepe

I fixed the link! Thanks Phil! They are group zoom calls... not another youtube livestream. All the information is laid out in the course! I'm also sending out an email later this week explaining more about how they work and how they are scheduled. !! Stay tuned!
