I first heard this song in 1994 at the carnaval on Trinidad. It has never left my mind! I was sad for some time, because I couldn't bye the song anywhere in Trinidad or back in Germany at that time. But now we have CZcams! THANKS for posting! And hugs and kisses to the lovely people from Trinidad.
The development of a Musical genius like Jit Samaroo may never happen again in the Steelband Movement because the bands today lack the foresight, discipline and patience needed. The Renegades Steel Orchestra stuck with Jit Samaroo from 1971 to 1981without a Panorama title. Jit was given the tools and the platform by Renegades to experiment, develop and polish his musical craft without interruption until he created a brilliant formula. Then the band was rewarded with 9 Panorama titles between 1982 & 1997. They would have gotten a few more had his health not decline. The bands today, like society as a whole, want instant success. Just like Professional sports teams remove head coaches that don’t get them to the Promised Land within a few years, Steelbands change Head Arrangers if they don’t achieve immediate success. Steel Pan’s “Golden Era” is truly over. Pan’s appeal to me has diminished significantly since Kitchener’s death. I listen and watch these vintage audio/video clips of Steelband Panorama Perfomances regularly to bring back the vibes of the Glory Days…….when PAN was KING!!!
Sometimes changes just happen in the yard. The same happens in Drum Corps, they play something the same way for quarterfinals and semis and then BAM, finals night comes around and something new happens and blows people away. I love it.
PAN IN YUH SKIN! I have a question...why all d time for recordings and festival steelbands does change parts of dey panorama peice? All Stars' Doh Back Back doh have d same fire as it did in 84 and this arrangement was ah little different from d recording I have...Panorama Final Night is d night to record because d bands pull out all d stops...ENT?
Not only that but pulling those racks up the drag is stressful and tiring.... dealing with all those people that do not want to move out the way when the bands are coming through, and the general chaos of the greens on a final night. It takes a toll on the players. I know because I go through it every year!
@Pantastic88 Listen nah breds, when you smoking that stuff you does have to exhale. Because it go have yuh talking stupidness like Fire coming down was better than this.

On a whole, the pan man/woman deserves more credit. They must be respected for their contribution toward perpetuating this art.
