Good video, thank you. I'm 68 and planning on retiring at 70 in Louisiana where I recently moved after living in New York state for 35 years. So glad I got out of New York for the reasons you give (taxes and weather, although the crime rate here is equally bad). TIP: Don't rely on a state's overall hospitalization quality rating to make that a decision factor for retirement. Healthcare quality varies greatly from hospital to hospital and can range from very good to very bad even in the same city. Also, some parts of a state can be far different from other parts -- for example, northern Louisiana (boring) is not at all similar to southern Louisiana (New Orleans) in any way except heat and humidity.

Any place but the Treasure Valley would be a great place to retire! The city of Boise is no longer that little city surrounded by farms. The price of living and the traffic have increased 100 fold in the last decade. This past election saw the defeat of three local mayors and one that decided not to run. Why you ask? Locals are fed up with exponential growth and price of living!!!

There are some good states that have alot of safe areas to retire that aren't on this list. For example, Northwest Arkansas, MS coast north of hwy 10 for flood reasons. Some parts in WI, etc. Also healthcare facilities are important. Thanks for this video anyway.

Cost of living in Hawaii depends on which Island you pick. Oahu / Honolulu is the worst. But if you are retired military you can use the PX / Commissary. Big Island is cheaper, the other, smaller Islands cheap too, except the groceries. Idaho may be cheap anywhere but Boise. Boise cost of housing sky high. You didn't list Texas. I think Rio Grande Valley is best. You can live here 12 months a year but many do snow bird. We have a camper to take North. But we are staying here in Texas this summer because of the pandemic. Cost of living in our County in Harlingen / Brownsville / South Padre Island is lowest in the Nation. Good healthcare. Many Seniors RV and mobile home parks. Great fishing

Nick here is a quiz question for you.
Who was the artist who sang Thank You For Being A Friend? and what was his biggest hit? Try it without Google 😂 or help from the Mappy family😂😂😂😂.
Great video again. As a Generation Xer, I delude myself into thinking I am retired, even though I am not, because I will continue to work to avoid perpetual boredom. By performing that type of psychology, I am less prone to thinking that I will have to work another 15 years.
When I visited Boise 5 years ago, I actually thought that would be an excellent retirement venue. The weather is relatively good all year. You have 2 major biomes right at your doorstep. The cost of living is reasonable and it has a low crime rate.
Cultural and recreational activities are commonplace. There is Bogus Basin for skiing outside of Boise and Sun Valley is not terribly far too. Downtown Boise has some excellent restaurants and shops.
The river through town adds a nice riparian ecosystem reminiscent of the Northeast USA, so if you get tired of the parched landscape of the Great Basin, then you are minutes away from water.
Also, the Pacific Ocean is 7 hours away.
NH is awesome too, but I am partial to the mountain west. SD is nice around the Black Hills, but that is about it. The eastern part is devoid of any scenery sans the MO valley and is colder in the winter. Omaha, NE is good culturally and has awesome rock concerts. In fact, the scenery around the MO valley is nice there, with Loess Hills on the Iowa side. The city has some great architecture too. The biggest drawback there are the property taxes, which can easily eat away at a fixed income.
Great video Nick, you will be retired before you know it.

Nick Johnson That song came out in 1978 (Golden Girls) and it is by Andrew Gold.
Andrew Gold had a bigger hit in 1977, called Lonely Boy. It is pretty cool and was his biggest hit.
Thought about doing a You tube channel where I would be a Troubadour, but I need to write my own material more, because I cover multiple songs.
Colorado is awesome, but the Denver area in particular, has skyrocketed in housing costs.
After watching this, I looked up Boise real estate and was fazed with how prices have increased since 14.
Not sure about the rest of the state as far as housing prices go, Idaho Falls or Coure de Lane (sp).
Keep up the great work, I think you will eventually do the entire list of the worst places to retire.
