Good seeing you again Gord. Nice cutting job. See you have the same problem with falling trees that I have. Take care my friend. Hope it doesn't go into a cold.

Just saw the sign that you sent too
" In the Wood Yard "
That was a nice gesture, and a good looking product.

Good info GP. I would think the bumper and dock protection issues with a pontoon boat would have been mentioned from the where you bought the boat.

Our toon lives on a hoist. For a few years (when I had more ambition) I'd install a carpeted bunk a foot away from the pontoon on the side away from the dock. It is basically a carpeted 2x6 mounted on a couple dock poles screwed into the lake bottom. Think on the west side of your boat in your example. That way the toon floats between the dock and that bunk. So if you had a strong wind from the east, you'd still remain near the dock to get on or off the boat easily. It does give a little if you hit it by accident. That was when the boat was new and my wife wanted to lay out and sun herself on the boat while at the dock. Now, we're happy enough to leave it parked under the hoist canopy.

Lol Gord that is an awesome tip. I use to work on Pontoon boats also called Party Barges. I had a 32 foot Party Barge The floor was bad Oh it was so bad I had to strip it all down and rebuild it. The floor was made out of PT 1 inch plywood. The problem with that is there was no other protection. Water would splash under the flooring and over the flooring and the all weather carpet would hold the water so the flooring would rot. I stripped it down and replaced the flooring then sealed it well as could be. Then I had to put everything back together. People loved going out fishing on it and having cook-outs on it . But no one ever thought about the flooring on a pontoon boat. I admit I never did .
Many people would give me their Pontoon boats for free because of this problem and yes I have put a lot of them together. You have 2 Pontoons on your boat I had 3 pontoons that I could fill the Pontoons up with a Gas to make it float better. You look and you will see there is a Valve stem on the ends of both Pontoons for that reason as well as a drain plug if they have a leak and take in water.
I have had people give me their Pontoon boats because of leaks and for me it was easy to fix and find the hole. The drain plug is the answer. Use a red dye and or Dawn Dish soap then fill it with water to build pressure It will push the red dye out or blow bubbles. Mark the leaks and then fix them.
Gord I could tell you some stories about going out on a Pontoon boat that would make you laugh so hard you would choak on your coffee laughing so hard and fall on the floor sweating in the dead of winter from laughing.

Good info GP, I use those same clips, but I leave them tied to the fenders so I don’t lose them and can adjust positioning depending on the dock. I bought my boat used, and it had Vantage Pontoon Guard on it. Check it out, double sided 3M tape application, comes in a lot of colors and will absorb any of the bumps without scratching the actual pontoon. I’ve seen people double them up for additional height and you could put them on to cover any scratches you have. Depending on your scratches, they may be able to be sanded and buffed out. Good luck!

I've always used the big bumpers regardless of the boat. They also have mats that can go over the side for pontoons.

I bought my Pontoon used and the guy had it tied up with stand offs ( a rope run through a capped 2" PVC pipe and it worked pretty good . Got in a hurry one day and tied his Crappie Fishing Boat to the side of the pontoon and hurried in the house to beat the storm. Three days later he went to go Crappie fishing after a storm had been off and on for three days and when he got to the boats the right log on the pontoon was beat and battered from the Crappie Boat banging in the waves for three days and it looked bad but didn't leak, brought the price down to me from all the damage . I made stand off to tie my boat up to trees on the lake while fishing and they worked great so think about that too. Glad you folks are enjoying the Pontoon Boat up there. Fred.

Really good info Gord. Another aspect to consider when putting out fenders that we folks on the coasts need to contend with is tides. In our case, a fender set to one height could be pretty useless in 4-5 hours, depending on the tide change.
    Love a boating video!

  • @m.cooper1854
    @m.cooper1854 Před měsícem +1

Great video, Gord. Another suggestion for new pontoon owners: In many circumstances, it is easier to dock with less drama to come to the dock at an angle so that your crew member can safely step off the bow, holding dock lines. Something you can't do in a bow rider and easier than trying to park alongside the dock with wind and waves pushing you around.

Do they offer an elevator option ?
    ( Like on the splitter)
That you throw all your money on, to put it in the new boat?
And dock, and trailer and accesories and storage.
