  • I have fond memories about my growing up years attending New York Mets games at Shea Stadium. Jane Jarvis was the Mets' home game organist from 1964 - 1979. I always enjoyed her rendition of "Meet the Mets." Here's my stab at it. Although Ms. Jarvis died in 2010, if she were physically present, my hope is she would approve of my presentation of this tune. Mets fans will want to stand at attention as they view/listen and the lyrics are below should they wish to sing along. Enjoy... ... All Baseball fans enjoy! Sincerely, "Trip Z"
    "MEET THE METS,
    MEET THE METS,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
    Bring your kiddies,
    bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
because the Mets are really sockin' the ball; knocking those home runs over the wall!
    East side,
    West side,
    everybody's coming down
to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!
Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the streets,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
Oh, they're hollerin' and cheerin' and they're jumpin' in their seats,
where did they go? To MEET THE METS!
All the fans are true to the orange and blue,
so hurry up and come on down -
'cause we've got ourselves a ball club,
The Mets of New York town!
    Give 'em a yell!
    Give 'em a hand!
And let 'em know your rootin' in the stand!
Come on and MEET THE METS,
    MEET THE METS,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
    Bring your kiddies,
    bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
because the Mets are really sockin' the ball; knocking those home runs over the wall!
    East side,
    West side,
    everybody's coming down
to meet the M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!
    Of New York town!"

This is what I would call a wonderful tribute to the incomparable Ms Jane Jarvis, who was as much a part of the "Big Shea" as any player...thank you indeed....

I've been putting it off but, I'm planning on recording and posting "Let's Go Mets" ... the tune Jane Jarvis played in those days when the Mets took the field. Stay tuned and thank you for your comments.

Thank you for your kind words and vote of confidence! In the mid-1980s, I was the home game organist for the Seattle Mariners (Kingdome). However, I've always been a Mets' fan. A couple years back, I approached the Mets about playing electronic organ at home games. At that time, the Mets expressed that live electronic organ music at Citi Field was not part of their current direction. I sure would love to do it though! Thanks again.

@@tripziegler3674 I remember Ken Boyer at 3rd, Jerry Bouchek, eddie bressoud, Bob Shaw, don shaw and Jack Fisher and the terrible losing as Jimmy wynn, willie Stargell and Willie Mccovey all pounded homeruns off Mets pitching. I met Dennis Ribant (Mets best in 1966) and Tommy Davis at a sports show. I met Tommie Agee on a plane.

@@alanlefkowitz7423 I remember all those players as well. I've followed the Mets from the very beginning in 1962. As you know, in those early years they lost many more than they won. Yet, there was something special about those rosters and the fan support they enjoyed. Tommie Agee was one of my favorites.

Trip. It's "request time"? In the early 1960's, my best friend and I would go to Ranger games at the 49th Street Garden. We'd get there at least an hour before warm-ups so we could listen to Virginia Thomas play. There are two songs that stand out. The Ranger Victory Song as she played it LIVE for every game. Not the tinny recorded version played now a days. The other was Tico-Tico which was played during the skate arounds that opened each period. If you could find those versions which had the BIG ARENA SOUND, I'll be able to die and go to heaven. Regardless, thank you, Dave

Dave. I am also a NY Rangers fan! I travel back to the city a couple times each year to catch some Rangers' matches at today's Garden. While I know the two tunes you requested, I am not familiar with Virginia Thomas' arrangements. I'll do some searching to see what I might come up with. Thanks for asking. TZ
