Great reaction! I hope you are understanding why when us “older people “ don’t like music today with its phoney drum beats and auto tone. This is why because we grew up listening to real musicians who played their instruments and created music with their own talent. This is why we for the most part today’s music can’t compare to what we grew up listening to.
You know, i'm 48 years old myself, so it's not like i'm a spring chicken either, but whenever I hear this crotchety old 'get off my lawn' boomer talk, the least I expect are fair criticisms or at least pronouncing or spelling "autotune" right when criticizing it, which would at least make it sound like you know what it is. (Also only a small minority of songs these days feature it, in only 2 genres of music, both of which are not nearly as prominent anymore as they were in 2009-2011, and autotune has fallen drastically out of favor these days) And when I hear people bemoaning "fake instruments" and then pointing to Pink Floyd (who I LOVE by the way), all I can do is laugh because Pink Floyd PIONEERED "fake instruments" with synth, and keyboard samples from Rick Wright, and Roger Water's oscillation tinkering which created an entire plethora of "fake instrument" sounds that were more versatile than the real things. One only needs to listen to Dogs or Any Colour You Like to hear perfect examples of them paving the way for exactly the things you're complaining about now. If you REALLY WANT to point the finger at modern EDM music for being what it is today, you should re-point that finger back at bands like Pink Floyd for pioneering these EDM and electronic experimentation that led to what's used in current pop and rock today.

'Hey you' is the quintessential Pink Floyd song.. typically eerie (including the buzzing sound during the 'worms eating into his brain part'), emotional Gilmour solo, incredible background bass.. and Roger Waters taking over the vocals at the end. Awesome song.

Don't know if anybody has mentioned that there are 4 Pink Floyd albums that are concept albums, and should be listened to from first to last song as there are no pauses between songs (except for cd versions, which force a break to be able to find the next track), and the whole album tells a story from start to finish. These albums are, in order, Dark Side of the Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977, and The Wall 1979. Most reactors get away with doing Side 1 Side 2 reactions, at worse they break it down by song. But almost all stay up. I was born in 1960, and I grew up when all the best groups (in my opinion) were creating the music we are still reacting to today!! This was the era of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Dire Straits, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk and so many others. It is so much fun to watch people get introduced to the music I grew up on, and still enjoy today!
Yep. Great era of music and creativity. Except that for me The Who was quite simply the most overrated band of all time. To me if you heard 1 The Who song you have virtually heard them all. I had just graduated high school and started college working at a pizza place when this album came out in the USA in late 1979. I listened to it every night on my way home from work at 2AM on a Friday or Saturday night with the windows down and the stereo on '11'. Hey You was a favorite to play as the first song on side 2 of the cassette.
I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd since the sixties. I took it for granted that music like this would always be around. I was mistaken. Bands from England during the late 60s, 70s and 80s will never be beaten.
i saw that. The lyrics cut straight into your heart, almost teared up thinking, yes, he gets it. good theropy because now you know your not alone. i think you almost teared up as well. welcome to the floyd
Hi looking forward to this one can't wait for you to do their song money they have so many good songs it is hard to pick a favorite hey you is a contender definitely top 5
Personally, I feel like Pink Floyd really began hitting their stride with the album Obscured for Clouds. That album has some great tracks that work better as standalone pieces. Likewise, Meddle has some amazing tracks as well, capped off with the opus Echoes (which you already checked out in Pompeii). As others have mentioned, their most famous albums are more concept albums with The Wall being the most narratively driven of the bunch. Depending on what you want to hear, some fast-paced bangers: One of These Days, Young Lust, Money, Happiest Days of our Lives/Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2; ethereal and dreamy: Us and Them, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (6-9), Brain Damage/Eclipse, Wish You Were Here, Great Gig in the Sky; assorted amazingness: Dogs, Have a Cigar, Sheep.
PF and The Velvet Underground were two 60's bands that artists went to their gigs because they were genuine and made amazing art. This song is an ode for misfits. "Bike" from the Syd Barrett years...I actually love it and Syd years are different and less spacey. But Bike is an interesting and quirky song that is not everyone's cup of tea. See Emily Play is a brilliant Syd song of the same era .
Hey Molly.. new sub here. Great channel so far! Pink Floyd in my opinion is in their own genre... there will never be another. Pink Floyd albums are concept albums... think of them like a book and each song as being a chapter of said 'book'... I suggest you do album reactions with each song being that days video release... start with Animals... that concept album is about the different types of ppl in the world....Pigs are the politicians... Dogs are the rich and powerful and sheep are you guessed it, the general public blindly following the rules set by the two previous groups. I personally think that Dogs is their best song of any album!
I have been watching your reaction videos for awhile and I must say it has become my favorite channel. Never mind the negative comments from fanatics. You do a great job. I grew up in the 70's and 80's but didnt become a Floydian until five years ago. Now Pink Floyd and Tool dominate my playlists! Keep up the good work!
That is hands down one of my favorite of theirs. The Wall was one of my top 5 albums growing up. I don't even think I appreciated them as much then as I do now. It's an experience. By the way I just came across your channel and I really enjoy your thoughtful reactions. Your enjoyment of this was great. It just reaches into you and grabs you.
The Wall was my first album I bought back in 79 I think, I've been hooked ever since. Goodbye blue skies is another to check out. Especially the film The Wall
Awww, Skillet. Havent heard that name in a while. Im so enjoying your channel. I love seeing someone feel the music like I feel it. Down in the bones! Keep going mollyboy.
I wish I could go back and hear them for the first time again. Thank you for opening yourself up to the experience. If you're looking for more, then Welcome to the Machine would be my next recommendation.
Aw MollyBoy, it’s great watching your journey with PF&other bands from the 70’s& 80’s, what a journey your on. This era was truly breathtaking. You have, Genesis, Yes, Deep purple, Rush& so many more to get through, you will be 40 😁👍
Very early Pink Floyd is a strange thing. They were very peculiar and thoroughly caught up in psychedelia and deliberate weirdness. Therefore, if you listen to the recordings from the 60s and a few others you will likely have a WTF moment or three. Many aficionados say that they really gelled as a band with the album Meddle and then reached greatness when Dark Side of the Moon was released.
Yes - there is a dichotomy between what I was introduced to on the radio as a teen, and, as a deep dive for me and finding The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn album from '67 and listening to it; I must say: I appreciated it, as well...but, quite different. Interstellar Overdrive was very interesting...and, I try to remember "the times" in which they started, too. From what I've heard, it was very early in EVERYONE's career, then, and the development and growth of the band, musically and spiritually, between the late 60s and early/mid-70s is AMAZING. but, Syd Barrett's influence has NEVER left this band and Piper was heavily influenced by Syd. When they first started-out: many of their songs were experimented with in the clubs and would last a very long time and would be a kind of trippy, psychedelic JAM SESSION...and, I mean LONG songs of "ZONING OUT"....but, that's where they learned a LOT and gained and used all of that knowledge, going forward. I'm so GLAD THEY DID, or we'd have NO FLOYD!! The creativity and raw sincerity of this band in both their lyrics and in the soul of their sound....and the craftsmanship and musical technicality is, in my opinion, unparalleled....and, many have said: they ARE their OWN genre. There's no one similar to compare them TO...and, I'm thankful to know their music and experience it.
@robertherring9277 Oh, I think they're all great ... but was just observing that many consider that 'Meddle' and beyond were the band's zenith. My starting point with the band was the compilation album 'Relics' - which is fabulous - and then I moved on to 'Obscured By Clouds' which I think is excellent. Being only 12 in 1974, funds were an issue and I didn't get hold of copies of their earlier albums until after the release of 'Wish You Were Here' (and didn't hear 'More' until the early 80s).
@@richardthresh3587 I agree! Relics is awesome! Only floyd I didnt "like" (i own it all plus many underground from the UK in the late 60's and early 70's) is the last one Endless River. I never even ripped it to FLAC for my archieves. Have 3 versions on Dark Side.
Don’t worry about trying to decide on a favorite. All of these songs will grow and evolve in your spirit, depending on mood, age, experiences. I’ve given up on identifying favorite Floyd songs. So many of them are at the top of the list at certain times for me, and it always changes. Just enjoy the ride! But if I had to choose with a gun to my head, the songs where Roger and David trade off on vocals, or David and Richard trade off on vocals (like Echoes, Time), would all be up there.
Another one to consider is The Dogs of War (live from Delicate Sound of Thunder). I always forget about that one and I don't know why because I really like it. It's hard and heavy and agressive and it's great. 🤘🏽💜
Wow, a younger person absorbing the beauty of music. Refreshing and honest reviews from MollyBoy. Keep going kiddo. I've been celebrating my 73rd birthday recently and going over the many regrets in my life, the most significant has to have been not seeing the Pulse concert at Earls Court in London, 1994. I've never heard of a better live performance than that, but no doubt some so called experts will have their own opinions and arguments. I am going to Oxford in June to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets gig.

@@SelfEvident- which song are you referring to? I think the lyrics are great for the two songs above that I suggested. For example, I love that PF incorporated the voice of Stephen Hawking to great effect in the song 'Keep Talking'.
Hmmmm.....mind blowing, right? 😊❤ Just the way WE felt when they came OUT with all these tunes....MASTERS!! ENJOY! You're listenin': NOW, tho: RIGHT?!!
I grew up listening to this and playing it. I'm actually envious of you hearing this fresh. It's taken me years to admit that they are actually my favorite band of all time. Love your reaction. Once Pink Floyded, you can never become unFloyded.
Never heard of Pink Floyd? Holy crap!!!
Just when you thought you couldn't be more impressed with DG, that fretless bass is played by David
Love it when youth discover Pink Floyd, a 50+year old band, and feel Gilmour's guitar solos in the soul like I do.
If Caravaggio were a rock band, he'd be Pink Floyd.
Really you can play any Pink Floyd song and your mind will be blown.
Ha ha ha!! Every song is their best song!!! 😃
Hi looking forward to this one can't wait for you to do their song money they have so many good songs it is hard to pick a favorite hey you is a contender definitely top 5
“What’s your favorite Pink Floyd song?” Yes. Or, the one you’re currently listening too.
From the PULSE CONCERT (Earls Court, London,1994), please check out RUN LIKE HELL and also LEARNING TO FLY.
It's another Floyd album that should be heard start to finish!
The Wall was my first album I bought back in 79 I think, I've been hooked ever since. Goodbye blue skies is another to check out. Especially the film The Wall
such an emotional song.....
I love your tenderness Molly Boy. Keep it.
Thanks!
@@bluechurch776 Thank you for the Superchat!

You gotta hear the second half of Shine On You Crazy Diamond ( parts 6-9 ) it’s necessary 👍🔥
Love seeing your the reaction on your face as the song progresses and you discover the genuis of Pink Floyd as it builds during the song!
Idk man Moore and Obscured By Clouds are awesome! For that, Piper at the Gates of Dawn (with Sid) is absolutely amazing! That was like what, '67?
Pink floyd is their own genre.
Another one to consider is The Dogs of War (live from Delicate Sound of Thunder). I always forget about that one and I don't know why because I really like it. It's hard and heavy and agressive and it's great. 🤘🏽💜
Dick Parry and his Sax
Yeah.. I'm right there with ya brother...
Together we stand, divided we fall! 😮
An add.... Man, you have to approach King Crimson sooner or later 😅
