That Prado at the 14:30 min mark... belongs to friends of ours. Burnt to the ground by spinefex just one day into their trip. They tried everything to save their emergency stuff and still lost it all the fire was that fast. If they had been alone out there they would have been screwed. They finally completed the Canning with us in July 23. It was such a traumatising experience that they were horrified to learn the car had just been pushed off the road and left there. They were hoping to never see it again. They wrote it a nice goodbye note in one of the doors and we finished the stock route that day. (South North) They were experienced and prepared people too. Can happen to anyone! Enjoying watching content from the same season!
Worked out there drilling for years, never thought content on the CSR would keep me glued, nicely done.
During covid lockdown I decided to spend the money saved on fuel to put a long range tank in the Patrol. Found a discount voucher for the Goannawhere tank which also held a bit more than the others. Installation was simple, did it on the back lawn. 6 months later lifted lockdown saw the tank filled for the first time and ....... a bloody leak in the top seam. A tiny slag pinhole in the weld. Was a real mission to find somewhere to put 150l of diesel so the tank could be removed again. Goannawhere paid for the onsite welder to dab a weld to fix it. I emptied the tank completely, stuffed a big wet towel under the pinhole, put the vacuum cleaner into the filler neck and sucked out the fumes. No problem since :)
Yeah well watch the next few episodes because the issue gets very interesting haha
Hey Matt, you are running the 4 leaf parabolics (700kg constant load) and they are riding the load spring all the time. If you upgrade to the 5 leaf (1000kg+) pack it will improve the ride in the Troopy massively.
I've gone through all the parabolic that TT sells as my 79 got heavier. Done exactly that upgrade to my 79 not to long ago and it made a world of difference.
When the rubber pads on the load leaf rides/get sqaushed all the time, you know the parabolic leafs are under sprung for the weight you carry. They still work, but you'll find the vehicle will perform way better with the heavier rates leafs.
Enjoy your content, keep it up!
Yep we put the 5 leaf pack in a few weeks ago! Way better I wish we had them for the canning. Also the noise was driving me crazy haha
I also had issues with a BD tank. Exactly the same joint on 100 series cruiser a few years ago. And I must add BD were superb with fixing the issue. The replacement tank also let us down after few days on the Connie Sue. BD stepped up again beyond my expectations and covered both repair and my other expenses.
We put the kit through hell on earth and they are tops in both owning the prob and looking after their customers!!
Canning and Connie Sue are easily the most rugged trips to put your fourby through.
BTW the Ranger on our Canning trip didn’t t fare so we’ll as the 3 Tojos
Yeah they were very good to deal with! It seems like the fox has been good so far.
Was a passenger in a dual cab 79 that rolled 4 times on the Tanami, about 18 kl on the NT side of Bilaluna Feb last year.
The medical clinic staff at Bilaluna were awesome, patched us up and organised 2 x RFDS flights to get the 4 of us to Broome 👍 this ep, and the last, bought back some memories 😆
Bloody hell sounds like you got out lucky mate
I love this episode, guys. The scenery of the Canning is spectacular. Your morning and sunset footage are always beautiful and memorable. It looks so much fun to able travelling with friends. Looking forward to the next ep ❤
Hi Matt and Holly love the idea about tag Alonge.!. I would consider doing it also I might catch up with you at Project Overland they do all my work Steve is great value. See you 2024.
No worries mate. If you're interested send us an email at olttours@gmail.com
Don't forget to do regular checks for grass build up under the car around hot spots :)
Onya Malcolm.
Drone shots lookin’ Nice! 👌
Yeah loving the new setup
Cracking episode guys! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the Canning series 👌
Cheers Sam hope you're well mate we will have to catch up soon.
Thanks Guys ,really enjoyed the video. Looking forward to the next one. Keep up the great work. 👍👍🍻🍻
Glad you enjoyed it
Great clip guys
As usual, brilliant episode. CSR is definitely on the bucket list. I've had a few issues with my BD tank as well. Currently, for the 3rd time, having one now.
Yeah they have been good to deal with but it seems pretty common!
Holly & Matt thanks for the video 👍👍
You'll get there one day enjoy the eps for now :)
Beaut camera + drone work guys, love it
TIP. If you take soap flakes with some bulldust from your wheel rims and knead it in the palm of your hand you'll have the perfect bush fix. This is the way Jack Absalom recommended. Works extremely well.
Yeah there you go! If its a fix from Jack Absalom then I reckon it would be pretty good
I ve done it. Had a tiny hole in the bottom of the tank after sliding on a rock. A combination of dirt, soap and petrol made a putty that plugged the hole. It works.
Lovely photography
Good Morning 😊Thanks for the amazing travels👏🏼 , That was an epic Trip 👏🏼 Greetings Mates From South Africa 🇿🇦
Cheers mate
Lovely EP Guyys loved it, hope to do the CSR one day,
Off to a pretty good start.
Looks so awesome 😎, hopefully i get out there one day. You do a fantastic job of showcasing these areas. Thanks
Thanks mate hope the show went well recently! Im sire you'll get out there one day
@@OverlandTravellers the show was really good , hopefully you guys will be at the eastern ck one 👍.
That’s some heavy brush on the track! Sure is nice to have the wrap 👍
Suggestion although your prob finished now -mirrors in and mesh over the grill!
As for the rope yes great work!
Great stuff guys as always 👍🍻 , don’t forget to do a Spinifex check daily ,radiator, chassis and intercooler ! Safe travels 😎
Yep its crazy the build up! We were pretty onto it because if the DPF's in these new rigs I wouldn't want to leave it
So far so good....
Cool episode! Next week will be something to look forward to! Brand new gear failing! You would think that stuff was a thing of the past. With the ol' girl but it seems to bite everyone in the butt regardless of the age of the vehicle/ parts.
No I don't think it really matters new or old on tracks like this it will find the weak points
A mate of mine had a leak develop from a crack in a Brown Davis tank on the Canning back in 2018.
Yeah I've heard a few stories now
We used soap as a temporary fix on a fuel tank on the Connie Sue. -worked brilliantly. One we reached camp we used a glue designed for the purpose
Robert when we were travelling around Africa we rode over a dead buck in the road late at night and it's horn punctured our fuel tank. We did not have soap ( only liquid soap) but we did have dates, the type you eat and we sealed our tank with them. When we left Africa we sold the vehicle with the dates still sealing the tank. We actually forgot about it and only remembered when we were back here in Aus. The fixed tank lasted 2 years for us and maybe still is going around Africa for all we know. Once the sand and dust gets mixed into the patch it sets as hard as rock and sealed the round hole in the tank perfectly.
That is a pretty wild story!
Another great video, you guys are hitting it out of the park. Countryside is looking beautiful, but I guess you pay for it with the brutal undergrowth. Sure wouldn't want to be in anything wider than a 70 series.
Thanks mate! yeah its a very tight track in places
Fixed a motorcycle tank in Port Douglas with soap once. Works good, you were not tempted to try quick metal? I always carry that in a tube.
Didn't take any stupid me! Had some in elsie 😅
Fantastic episode, everyone needs an Adrian.
Disappointing to have a leak so soon on a new tank, at least you didn't crack the chassis
Haha yeah I would have been a very unhappy chat gif that happened
Yeah its a good quick fix to get to camp
@OverlandTravellers and if it is a bigger crack you can use soap and a coin of the correct size
I'm going to have to add a bar of soap to my repair kit 🤣
Hi Guys, Loving the start of the Canning. Are sand flags required to be on your vehicles or is it an option you guys have made? You mentioned about having the truck in front as it can be seen better. Why don't you have your head lights on if you want to be seen? Just a thought. Cheers Graeme
Not sure if its a requirement but I definitely recommended it. Cheap insurance for a potentially big issue. Headlights would be a bad idea either
Well spotted Holly 🧐
She's pretty good!
I wanna check this out
Its pretty cool
The hat thing is not doing it for me , I guess you had to be there 😊… but that’s just me. Good vids just the same, I’d like to know the date of it though as I said in the previous video.
That’s exactly why we put a convenient timer on so you can skip it, just for people like you 👍🏼
😂😂
No, not just you - me too. At 72 I've learned that such things are actually belittling, albeit amusing at first.
Yes sort of unnecessary really in the theme of the actual video, agree with other comment here a bit belittling
Believe me, you are not the first to have a Brown Davis tank split along the seams. I learnt the hard way. Went to a poly tank. Problem solved.
Yep I have heard it a few times now
Is this were they make CANNED GOODS ?
Yes
Great vid as usual guys
You must be spewing about the fuel tank 😵💫
Love the dunce hat also 🤣
Cheers unpro 🤙
Yeah its a shame but these things happen on the road!
Just a heads up, Opera House nets are illegal in W.A.
Ah gotcha thanks mate! We will refrain from now on
How long is the track ?
And where you get your petrol
We have a full rundown video which explains all this :) it will be a few videos after we finish the CSR
I'm surprised the sand flags don't have a strobe at the top.
Anything like that would get torn off quite quickly I think.
I fly gliders. What was introduced was something called Flarm. Each glider broadcasts where it is, where its heading. Each glider picks that up and gives warning about collisions. That's now been enhanced with strobe lights that go off for warmings too.
What's interesting is that has been picked up by mining firms for their vehicles. The big trucks shifting stuff out of mines now have a variant to warn of collisions. If you think of the cost of one crash, just avoiding one makes for a lot of money saved.
So the strobes alone are cheap. Just an idea. ....
