so i is a tribute for sophie, she was charli's best friend and a big producer in the industry, she teached charli about music production on the pc music/hyperpop scenario, sophie died in a fall in 2021 RIP :c
edit: i forgot to say, the line "And I know you always said, "It's okay to cry"" is referencing the mos popular song of sophie, its okay to cry

That whole song makes me cry so much, her guilt about pushing Sophie away and her honesty about feeling responsible for what happened is so real

It definitely was one of the saddest songs on the album

I think the song that you were reminded of during mean girls was Sexy Bitch by David Guetta but it also reminds me of S&M by Rihanna!

charli always hit this balance where her productions will be bold, ambitious and out of ordinary but still pop fun!

Mean Girls is about the Internet's It-Girls and how they are controversial, and the motif is based on Dasha Nekrasova (from Podcast "Red Scare"), Gabbriette (Matty Healy's fiancée) and even herself. this is not a diss track though because she said in the interview that she kinda wanna call back to the celeb culture in the early 2000s where the celeb culture was messy and more unfiltered as it is today where being a pop star nowadays means also being sort of a moral compass for your fanbase

Sympathy is a knife is about Taylor Swift. George Daniel (Charli’s boyfriend) and Matty Healy (Taylor’s ex) are members of The 1975
