I have doubts about the correct formula to calculate sample size in case of randomized controlled trials(RCT), because it's necessary to use a lot of sample size in the same trial. Can I use one of these formulas in the RCT or it's necessary to find out sample formulas related the ANOVA ? Thank you for all !

    Superb explanation..
    Could you elaborate more on the degree of variability (p)..? Is it the same as the standard deviation? And if so, how to determine it..? As you were saying using 0.5 means we are having maximum sample size.. does the degree of variability have a range value? (0 to 0.5..?)
    Thx

    • @monikamohini
      @monikamohini  Před 3 lety +2

      In this degree of variability means the proportion of variation in the population...if the population is fixed, you can calculate it with the formula/softwares, but when it is not fixed (usually it is infinite), then we take it as 0.5 as it denotes the maximum variability

      @@monikamohini say i have 100 data as the population, and somehow i only have access to 30 data (sample). Now under these limitation, if i want to measure the margin of error & my confidence level (could be just margin of error if assume confidence level of 95%), then i still need to input the proportion of variance.. what is the best approach to find the proportion of variance..?

    • @monikamohini
      @monikamohini  Před 3 lety

      In that case, sample size formula could be calculated as given in the video for fixed population...there is no need to calculate population variance for that matter...0.5 population variance is to be used only when population size is infinite. There is no range as such, 0.5 denotes the maximum variance, so we are chosing the maximum variance for calculating the adequate sample size

      @deepanshyadav2756 Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, this is not the formula. It is a rule of thumb that in case you have to collect data for 10 variables, then 100 sample size is adequate and 200 sample size is best. Similarly, in case you have to study 20 variables, then 200 is adequate and 400 is best

    Can you please tell me the formula for calculating the sample size when the data is not normally distributed?

    • @monikamohini
      @monikamohini  Před 3 lety

      There is no formula for calculating such sample size (formulas and general rule are already mentioned in the video which you can choose as per the conditions). Normality or non normality is the result of the chosen sample size. As per Central Limit Theorem,if sample size is greater or equal to 30, then we assume that the distribution is normal distribution. If you still think that as per your study you can't take sample of 30, then you can use various tests available for not-normally distributed data.

      @@monikamohini actually I have 800 sample size but normally test shows that data in not normally distributed, can you please suggest something that help me to make my data normal.

    • @monikamohini
      @monikamohini  Před 3 lety

      It is okay if your data is not normally distributed. You just need to use the appropriate test in that case. You don't need to "transform" a non-normal distribution into a normal one when in reality data is not normally distributed.

    • @monikamohini
      @monikamohini  Před 3 lety +1

      Taken from the internet...there are several options for handling your non normal data. Many tests, including the one sample Z test, T test and ANOVA assume normality. You may still be able to run these tests if your sample size is large enough (usually over 20 items). You can also choose to transform the data with a function, forcing it to fit a normal model. However, if you have a very small sample, a sample that is skewed or one that naturally fits another distribution type, you may want to run a non parametric test. A non parametric test is one that doesn’t assume the data fits a specific distribution type. Non parametric tests include the Wilcoxon signed rank test, the Mann-Whitney U Test and the Kruskal-Wallis test.
