I’m a long time k-pop fan and a longer time metalhead. There is surprising crossover between the two. My theory is that it’s because they’re both high energy. I call metal “high energy dark” and K-pop “high energy light.” This song is an all time favorite. Also a Nightwish fan. Also live in the Midwest (Michigan).

As someone who is a metal head and likes some KPop, I recommend to you, BABYMETAL. They fuse JPop and Metal into Kawaii Metal and it's amazing. Any song would do really, and most songs are actually better live with them, but I think you'd like them, some metal and something familiar as well. They even have dances for all of their songs. :3
I LOVE SLIPKNOT, and I can see you appreciate them as well, but I thought you'd like to see something kind of familiar while exploring a new genre as well. Also not metal, but rock, BAND-MAID, another Japanese band, but they are an all woman hard rock band that is just amazing. And more in the KPop realm, you might have already heard of them/listen to them already, but just in case, Dreamcatcher, they like to fuse metal/rock and KPop as well. Just some suggestions, I thought you might like. ^^
    PURPLE YOU BTW. 💜

Spit it Out - Live at Download 2009

80,000 people in a field going nuts.
People = Shit (Live London 2002)
Disasterpiece (use a lyric video or London 2002)
    Heretic Anthem
    SIC
    Eyeless
    Liberate
    Surfacing
So many more from their first 2 albums (self titled 99, IOWA 2001)
Fair few commercial(ish) hits mid period - this, Before I Forget, Duality
Heavier again of late Unsainted, Solway Firth, Nero Forte, Dying Song, Yen - some really dark visuals in the videos
Also some ballads (but dark ones...) - Snuff (check out the Slipknot version then Coreys solo accoustic), Vermillion
Some rap, nu metal, thrash, punk, death, rock - all sorts in their style.
Cant wait to see them again in December - 25th anniversary tour of their debut.

Slipknot is kinda right in the middle of easy access + deep end heavy. Other bands to get you into metal would probably be Black Sabbath ("Iron Man" riff is pretty popular), Metallica (one of the Big 4 of thrash and with some easy access songs like "One"), something from power/symphonic/goth metal genres for more operatic vocals, Pantera (groove metal) or Korn (nu metal) for something groovy, and for something more extreme, the easiest band aside from Slipknot may be Allegaeon, which is melodic death metal (not quite there with the deep end stuff). Want some ladies? Jinjer, Arch Enemy, Nervosa, Crypta (both Nervosa and Crypta shared members), Epica, or if you want something ballsy and pop-ish, Sumo Cyco or Scene Queen.
The "deep end" would probably be Meshuggah, Cattle Decapitation, Cannibal Corpse, Lorna Shore, and Slaughter to Prevail.

If you want clean vocals the entire time or most of the time, then some recommendations are bands like Unleash the Archers, Hammerfall, Dragonforce, Nightwwish, etc. And the power metal subgenera is a good thing to take a look at if clean vocals and musician's who can play really fast are what you seek

New Subscriber to you Misa, but I loved your reactions! If you want an easier transition into Slipknot, I'd suggest all of their go-to songs: Duality, Before I forget, and Wait and Bleed are the top three that come off my head. I hope you have fun with them if you choose to react!

Nigthwish is a GOATed choice though, Tarja era was my favorite of theirs. As far as Slipknot goes, check out Before I Forget, Wait & Bleed, Opium Of The People, Killpop, and People=Shit. That will cover all your Slipknot bases.

    Not well versed in Metal...
we can definitely help you out there.
On release, a writer for The Boston Globe described the music of Black Sabbath as "hard blues-rock".[12] In retrospect, AllMusic's Steve Huey feels that Black Sabbath marks "the birth of heavy metal as we now know it".[13] In his opinion, the album "transcends its clear roots in blues-rock and psychedelia to become something more".[13] He ascribes its "sonic ugliness" as a reflection of "the bleak industrial nightmare" of the group's hometown, Birmingham, England.[13] Huey notes the first side's allusions to themes characteristic of heavy metal, including evil, paganism, and the occult, "as filtered through horror films and the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien, H. P. Lovecraft, and Dennis Wheatley."[13] He characterises side two as "given over to loose blues-rock jamming learned through" the English rock band Cream.[13]
In the opinion of the author and former Metal Maniacs magazine editor Jeff Wagner, Black Sabbath is the "generally accepted starting point" when heavy metal "became distinct from rock and roll".[14] In his opinion, the album represented a transition from blues rock into "something uglier", and that this sound "found deeper gravity via mournful singing and a sinister rhythmic pulse".[14] According to Rolling Stone magazine, "the album that arguably invented heavy metal was built on thunderous blues-rock".[15] Sputnikmusic's Mike Stagno notes that Black Sabbath's combined elements of rock, jazz and blues, with heavy distortion created one of the most influential albums in the history of heavy metal.[16] In retrospect, Black Sabbath has been lauded as perhaps the first true heavy metal album.[17] It has also been credited as the first record in the stoner rock genre.[18] Taking a broader perspective, Pete Prown of Vintage Guitar says, "The debut Black Sabbath album of 1970 was a watershed moment in heavy rock, but it was part of a larger trend of artists, producers, and engineers already moving towards the sound we now call hard rock and heavy metal."
