Let me know if you have any suggestions for further episodes. đ

At least you connected Kimi's drink.
đ
Marc be like: "You WILL get the drink"
Modestas Janulis ThatLithuanianBoi Kim will have the drink for the formation lap, then he can have the strong *D R I N K* i like to call alchohol
Is it emptying the bottle?
Hi Marc don't underestimate how enjoyable these takes are from you, I think you could do more videos just discussing particular F1 events or moments, even ones you weren't involved in and just giving your take.
đ
How about that time when at a Monaco Grand Prix Kimi went straight to his yacht after his car blew up? Might be a fun tale to tell.
It wasn't his yacht, actually. He was later on photographed dead drunk on the same yacht.
Yes please more of these, this was great fun and an interesting insight into the often bizarre world of F1
I'll definitely take more tales from the tree house Marc these are, whether good or bad tales, from a golden era i remember with great fondness in my early years as an F1 fan and thank you for sharing đ more please đ
I love these insights! I've just finished reading your book which is full of these amazing stories. Keep it up
hello @superGt, viewer here !
I wonder if Kimi realizes how hillarious he is?
Not really ....
I started laughing in anticipation before you got into the tree house. What a great idea, your Kimi voice was better last time though.....fantastic
đ
Good stuff...insight into the inner workings of things is always top shelf.
Elvis I really have grown to look forward to all of your content mate. Thank you so much for keeping it coming and providing us all with something nice to enjoy in the rubbish current times.
Thanks for watching.đ
Great idea to share from your book!!! The only idea I would share is seeing if you could get Kimi to teleconference in and share even more stories. Although Iâm sure he might have some of you you donât want told. đ
đ
"Tales From The Treehouse"
Looks more like a snipers nest with the unlucky victims buried beneath when seeing all those gravestones.
I was gonna mention this! Is your treehouse in a graveyard?
Thats a great story. I never got to see all the drama live. That was the year before I started watching F1. Being around Kimi off camera has to be hilarious.
This is incredible! Only just come across the channel, thanks so much, Marc.
đ
great video as always, I wish there was a documentary about this race, there must be so much unseen footage and even if there isn't so many stories from all over the pit like yours and what stories do team principles have.
Great story. I liked the part about your first pitstop as well, really entertaining đ
I remember when you first started these videos you said you were going to build treehouse for the kids so it's great to see that it's well underway. So tales from the treehouse is is a fabulous way to inspire you to get the next book out and inspire us to get this one. Keep giving us these treats, thank you. đđ
Love these kind of insights, Was trying to think of any you would have been in with but I get dates mixed up.
TBH anything at all from you is worth tuning into.
Thanks Elvis! Some very fun 14 minutes spent listening to you stories. Thank you again for the great entertainment đ€đđ
đ
Hi Marc, thanks for these videos! Bought your book after your previous anecdote video (the blue hands one). Normally my short attention span causes some challenges finishing a book, but finished this one in a day! Wonderful read, with some beautiful insights into seasons I witnessed as a teenager.
Thank you, I appreciate it.đ
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Keep em coming. đ
đ
One of your best videos yet!
Excellent video Marc! Tales from the treehouse great hit
Nice one Mac, keep bringing it bro đ
Great vlog Marc as usual.
Awesome idea!!! Love tales from the treehouse!
Loved the book! Finished it recently. You are a great story teller!
đ
Kimi seems to be a mecanic before his f1 days. Also on kart level.
He surely is one of a kind.
He and vettel are very funy with there helmets off.
Hi Marc, first time watching your channel and really enjoyed this one. You should more like this!
Thank you and welcome along.đ
One of my favorite stories from your book. Liking the new Tales from the Treehouse series.
I purchased your book on audio form. Congratulations, it's so interesting, descriptive, and entertaining . Thank you.
I remember that race with a very positive feeling! Sure, I understand that not everyone at that time was a fan of the scuderia Minardi but I was ;-)
Same. Not because Minardi but because I'm portuguese and Tiago Monteiro get the only podium finish of a portuguese driver in the Jordan.
@@conceptualmessiah01 The guy was exploding with joy, it was not possible to be happy about him!
I stayed up very late to watch this race and was not dissapointed! It's the only one where the crowd were throwing rubbish onto the track, something to remember!
Excellent, love the inside stories. Thank you.
It's an awesome book Marc, loved it đ
Brilliant stuff! Keep it up. Please.
These stories about Kimi are gold! Please share more of these!
Love the Mexican Kimi Raikkonen - whoâs swearing goes âBoi-oinnnggâ !! Superb impersonation there !! Lol. Rx
đ
Hi Marc, I don't know if you've been told, but your imitation of Kimi sounds like GĂŒnther Steiner đ€Ł
đđđ
Keep it coming Marc đ
Poor Kimi. That was hard I am sure. I also live in Oval land with the drag strip. augh! But that conversation must have been intense.....had heard about this race a few ago, but hearing the inside is always amazing.
Bought your audiobook last year, best racing book I've ever consumed. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes racing.
Thank you
Yes I remember getting up early here in NZ to watch the race and couldn't believe what I was witnessing. A shameful day for F1 for sure. Loved your book Marc and really enjoying these "tales from the treehouse " filling those stories out.
An interesting and funny story well told. Thanks Marc.
Marvellous Kimi imitation...đ Bit like Seb and Kimi in Australia this year...
That was an awesome insiders tale, especially the Kimi impressions, LMAO.
#AskElvis Are F1 cars ever asymmetrical? In a track like Austria where there are only two left-handers, would engineers ever setup a car to be stiffer or lower on one side? I know that they do it in oval racing (obviously) but Iâve never heard of it being done in F1. Iâd really like to know if this ever happened during your time at McLaren and if so, how often? Thanks for the videos and engagement Marc! Youâre always entertaining.
I think Tyrell built a car with one front steering arm and suspension longer than the other. They worked out that one track was mainly left handers and that this front end would be an advantage. It never raced so it was either banned or proved not to work. Canât find a picture so not certain of the team but saw the car at a vintage event in the 80ÂŽs
I'm pretty sure they are. I'm not a technician but it makes a lot of sense because marginal changes result in substantial gains. And probably is more pronounced in qualify setups.
the 2014 lotus has 2 tusks of different lengths on the front of its nose
An old Manor F1 owned laptop was sold to someone and in the laptop there were car setup parameters. And yes things like camber, toe, tire pressures etc were different from one side to another. I can't remember if there were any difference to front and back.
@ In Front/Back there need to be differences because of the uneven weight distribution, Aero load, the Front steering, different suspension geometries and so on.
I read the book and loved it! đđ»đ
Keep them coming Marc....
Looooove love these tales from the tree house!
Brilliant video Marc. Another mess I think F1 have made of situations in the past and probably in the future.
I remember asking a lad to swap shifts with me at work so I could watch it and I nearly died of embarrassment during it all .
Awesome Marc! What's great is that I'm reading your book right now. so how about at some point you get into "Spy-gate!" That's where I am in your book at the moment.
đ
Great video thou.... Great too hear inside stories....
I thought you might have a good story to tell from the garage..but I wasn't expecting anything as good as this! That Kimi accent cracked me up so much. Great stuff thanks Marc!
đ
If I close my eyes it's almost as if Kimi himself is there with you!
đđđ
Legendary tale! Loved it!
So glad we still got Kimi
Love it Marc more please.
#AskElvis
Another brilliant insight, thank you Marc.
Iâd love to know the discussion on the pit-wall during the closing stages of the 2005 European GP (Nurburgring). How close were you to pulling Kimi in for a tyre change (on safety grounds)?
...Plus Iâd like to know more about the stillborn MP4-18 as well.
Loved the story, looking forward to the next one. Maybe you got a good one behind the scenes of some Lewis/Fernando drama?
Ooh, I have...đ
@@F1Elvis Look forward to it. đ

This is a fun idea, I really enjoyed it. If it hasn't been done next it's got to Hungary 2007, surely!

Great insight into one of the most famous F1 weekends in history. Would be interested in hearing about your experience at McLaren with the MP4-18 and Newey.
He has already told about MP4-18
13:01 Elvis has left the building.
Listening to the Audible.com version of your book now! I love the fact YOU are the one reading it... Definitely entertaining in every aspect.

@@F1Elvis Kimi's revenge sounded hilarious...
Thanks for these "Tales from the Treehouse" I find them very entertaining and interesting - in fact soo much that I picked up a copy of your book (had to be in e-book format in the present situation). I have just started reading it and find some interesting fact about the P34 that I wasn't aware of, I have always thought that it was aerodynamical reasons behind the design. Fun fact about the two "ancient" F1 cars you mention - I've seen both the P34's and the BT46B's only victories live as both cars won the Swedish GP and Scandinavian Raceways in Anderstorp '76 and '78 respectingly.
đThanks
Would love to see one of these videos about Nurburgring 2005. Mustâve been an absolute nightmare
đ
You need to put âtales from the tree houseâ in the title, and a playlist so we donât miss any
I take the playlist comment back, I see youâre way ahead of me ;)
Grwat work Mark
Kimi has always had a way of putting F1 in its place.
Yet he turned in from formation lap.
@@teppo9585 that or trash the car just like ralf and never race in F1 again
Yay! More tales from the tree house!
i enjoyed this. thank you
Tales from The Treehouse as a replacement for Electric Tuesday would be cool. :) I'll edit that. Fright Night Friday with stories of the omnishambles of other pit crew mechanics and their nightmare stories !
I was there! We'd saved for a whole year to fly to the USA! Such a strange memory. Bonus though is that indy was cool.
I'd flown in from the UK for the races from 2000 to 2004 and had decided to go to other races in 2005 so I missed all the chaos.
Thanks! I sort of remember watching that race... Christijan Albers got his only points in F1...
(at that time we did not see Dutch drivers scoring points very often)
Love all your videos but more tales from The treehouse please
One reason I like to watch ur videos is ur beautiful accent đ which is really helpful for improving my own accent.
Love your Kimi impersonation!đđđ€Ł
đ
Well done! These are great! You should do one about your first pit stop. I had a huge laugh over that one (in the book).Thinking back, is there anything that you wish you added to the book about that stop?
I will cover this.đCan't think of anything else I'd add...
@@F1Elvis will still be great to hear. Thanks again for sharing!
you do a good Kimi. though forgot the typical "buaah..." :-)
Please do more stories, this was great.
đ
Great storytelling :) I remember feeling so sorry for the fans at the track, but also for the Michelin teams. I was also angry that the Bridgestone teams (one in particular) were so unhelpful. No matter what suggestions were made to help the race happen, even those where all Michelin teams said they'd happily go without any points, they said no to it.
A race of _some_ sort could have taken place, the Bridgestone teams would have got all the points, we as fans could have had some sort of entertainment, but no, Ferrari in particular wouldn't have it because they knew it was a guaranteed 1-2 and they wanted the "optics". To have let other teams run, they might have come in lower down on the road even if they knew they'd win in the end.
This is still something which rankles me. Each time they threaten to leave F1, I shrug and think those who run F1 should call their bluff. They won't go, F1 is literally their only advertising. Sports car racing, great as it is, is far more a "niche" sport than F1. And over the decades (I remember Enzo running the team...) they've often been quite a toxic team. I know there are Ferrari fans out there, and I'm not knocking them - you like who you like, it's none of my business, but it's such a political team that I can't take to them at all, irrespective of who's driving for them (and some of my fave drivers have done just that). They don't even respect their drivers. At least without Enzo, they do seem to give a damn about getting their drivers back in one piece and breathing. There was a time... smh.
Marc you saved my race at Austin being my engineer
Absolutely amazing insight. I'd love to hear more about the 1998 crash at the Belgium Grand Prix
I wasn't there then I'm afraid...
@@F1Elvis Next time join McLaren in 1998 please, OK!?
That was the first F1 race I was going to watch live, this being the hayday of NASCAR. Which by the way, at first, i thought your shirt said NASCAR.
But it was actually a good thing. I was so curious as to why all these other cars could corner at speed, yet F1 was tearing up the tires. What kind of cars were these that were that much more aggressive ont he rubber?
remember that weekend well - they knew already tyres were an issue
Tales from the Treehouse is fabulous!!!
#AskElvis Great vid as always, keep up the great work. Just wondered if you were involved with the David Couthard/Michael Schumacher crash at the 1998 soaking wet Belgium grand prix. I think you joined Mclaren in 2000 so wasn't sure if you were in F1 before that. Would loved to have been a fly on the wall for that one :-)
No, I joined the team in 2000.
For the next one, maybe something from the 2007 Season? Love the content.
That would be very interesting, especially how McLaren managed their drivers so they donât win the championship.
Thankfully I missed this race as a huge thunderstorm took out the electricity đ€Łđ€Ł the only bit I saw was where the Michelin runners turned in to the pits on the formation lap.
tales from the treehouse is a good thing i agree your take on events you were not involved in would be good like the drivers strikes in the 70s/80s
Kimi would have easily won that race. He needed the points for the title. McLaren should have just raced, it's like Kimi at Lotus in early 2013 before the mid-season tyre change. Kimi was a master of the tyres, and had put in on the front row with a load of fuel.
There were too many legal issues to go against Michelin's recommendations.
@@F1Elvis True, but I firmly believe Kimi goes best on softer tyres without camber/pressure restrictions, he has shown it over the years. I am willing to bet Kimi didn't report a single major issue that weekend with the tyres. It's his driving style, and if he managed to deal with it, the others should have just got on with it. Yes there is the legal issue, but if McLaren have trust in their car and driver why not race? Just like in 2013, Kimi had 0 issues with those early Pirellis, while every other driver, including his own teammate was complaining. Anyways you make a good point.
There was no problem with the car or driver, just the tyres. Imagine if the tyres had let go at well over 200mph and bits had come off and hit a marshal or someone in the crowd...after we'd be told they weren't safe to race...
@@F1Elvis Would have been huge legal issues Marc, fully agree with you. But I am willing to bet Kimi would have been fine with the tyres, that was my point. He has always, as Mark Slade put it, been brilliant with tyre management especially with very soft tyres others work too hard. It would have been a silly risk to take at the end of the day as you put it, but I am sure Kimi could have driven the race without issues, given his driving style and the car McLaren had. And I think he knew that too, hence his reaction. The tyre issues were only prevalent with a few Michelin teams. Not all of them and Kimi's driving style lends itself very well to those sorts of situations (see early 2013 before the mid season tyre change).
Great story Marc. Got any extra insight into Spa 2008? That was such a crazy episode in F1 history and the on track action was out of this world. A fantastic battle for the win ruined by the stewards. The decision to penalise Hamilton for locking up in Fuji is dubious as well considering the fact that he didn't hit anybody and it was actually Kovallainen who made contact with Kimi and forced him off.
Tanx marc. I love hearing the inside stories.
Loved this one! I remember watching the start of it on TV and I remember seeing what looked like a discussion between Kimi and Ron Dennis but couldn't really tell what it was about (I had a 32" CRT TV at the time). Shortly thereafter I heard them say the Michelin cars won't be racing and I turned off the TV. I had wondered what it about, thanks for the details, a lot more interesting than I had thought and it just confirms to me the many things I like about Kimi. I had also wondered if Kimi had modified his driving through turn 13 and may have been able to complete the race. I know this is stretch for the memory, but do you recall what Kimi's tires looked like during the weekend?
We didn't have any particular issues on our car, but that may've just been luck to that point...
This race really showed how the teams put themselves ahead of the fans, permanently dampened my enthusiasm for F1 to some degree.
#askelvis any chance you would consider doing an audio book version of you book, of if you've done one already where can i find it, with a two year old keeping me busy i dont get much time to read a book so listen to podcasts etc while traveling to work, when we were doing that anyway.
