  • Welcome to our course on Design and Prototype for iOS 17 in Figma. Full course: designcode.io/...
iOS 17 brings many exciting features and improvements, and we will explore how to exploit them to create remarkable app experiences. You will learn fundamental design principles, guidelines, and practical techniques for crafting visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces. Additionally, we will cover visionOS and learn how to create a spatial design concept that allows you to create comfortable, human-centred experiences using depth, scale, windows, and immersion. Moreover, we will explore the exciting new features in Figma, such as Dev Mode, variables, advanced prototyping, and auto layout updates.

"Avoid using heavy textures, 3D effects and multiple shadows excessively."
But that's exactly what DesignCode has built itself around over the last few years.
As well as reinventing familar controls (e.g. toolbars) for the purpose of style over function, and setting everything to "11".
Do as I say, not as I do? :p

There's a point where design starts getting out of hand no? Don't get me wrong, I think at 21:55 design is beautiful but I can't see someone taking an app designed like this seriously when trying to book a flight? Like am I booking a flight just to get some design pleasure out of it or am I really travelling?

The momondo app pretty much looks like that with the same colour scheme

@@sneedsfeedNseed007 Seems like Momondo doesn't use excessively bubbly rounded corners and over-the-top gradients (though they do use gradients). They still retain the corporate vibe despite using "fun" colors so I understand what OP meant by design getting out of hand

See, This is where we need to look at the UX Part of the Process. This app is clearly not designed with a lot of focus on understanding the Target User and the Market of a product like this. Also, Certain Visual Decisions incite certain specific feelings. In my opinion, the problem here is 1) Not understanding the Market and User beforehand & 2) Not utilizing visuals that will actually feel more normal for an app of this kind & instead forcing a visual style that would have been more appropriate for an NFT Wallet. Understanding the Conceptualization behind Visuals is actually a very key skill to have, you don't want to design apps just to show that you can design the best gradients with the coolest effect.
