In this DCS: F-16C Viper video, we’ll discuss the use of Mark Points in the Viper. A Mark Point location can be designated through the HUD, the HMCS, radar, or targeting pod, and stores the location in steerpoints 26 to 30. This is useful for returning to a target, and later, sharing over the datalink between flight members.
Mark Points can also be shared through the datalink.

I would say that this is the best update for the F-16 so far but I haven't stopped watching my wings wiggle all week.
Wings wiggle? Have I missed a wingflex update? The amraam wiggle has been in the sim for quite some time.
The level of complexity in AI terrain analysis that goes into just this one function on the real jet is amazing. Add to that the complex missile tracking systems, internal mechanics and electronics, and all of the sensors that provide probably an unquantifiable level of feedback into the computer... really impressive engineering to say the least
It's going to be a busy holiday season getting to grips with all these goodies...pods, modules, module updates, map updates, and that's largely just the ED content folks.

I have also noticed the following functionality:
Mark Point to Steer Point - Press 0 M-SEL in Mark Point screen with Mark Point selected. Allows you to set current Mark Point as the Steer Point without leaving the Mark Point DED screen.
Change Mark Point source = Dobber Right

Fun shortcut: pushing M-SEL while in MARKPOINT will automatically set it as your steerpoint.

For once there is something i'm not understanding from Wags, and that is the "Offset Error", when he turns on the TGP to look at the MarkPoint he just made with the FCR.
I've replayed those 20ish seconds a few times but am finding it hard to properly understand it still :x
When he changes steer point he is still slewed away from the steer point that's why he had to press the button to sleew back to the new steer point
think of it like this: there's always a point of reference, and optionally an offset from said point. Initially you have the pod pointing at a steerpoint (SP), and that SP is the point of reference. When you move the pod, the reference point is still the SP, the reference point does not change, but now the system knows you want to look at some offset *from* that reference point.
So now you are looking at: reference point (still the SP) + some offset.
When after that you change the active SP you are just changing the reference point. But the offset is still there. So the system still thinks you want to look at some offset with respect to your reference point, which is now a new SP.
So now you are looking at: reference point (the new SP) + some offset (same offset than before, unchanged).
With the CZ button you remove that offset. So the system now points directly at the reference point (which is the second SP).
For example: If you slew off steerpoint 1 and then change to steerpoint 2, the slew created off steerpoint 1 is carried to steerpoint 2. Cursor Zero (CZ) removes the offset off the steerpoint.
When he slewed from his starting steerpoint to the target, it created an offset in his sensors so they were looking X distance in Y direction from the steerpoint. That offset stays when you select another steerpoint, so when he selected the markpoint it was applying the earlier offset to the new waypoint.
So say for example you slew 1000 feet north of a steerpoint, create a markpoint at that spot, then select the markpoint as your steerpoint, your TGP will look 1000 feet north of the markpoint unless you hit cursor zero first.

You guys noticed the North indicator on the HSD
Thank for the updates to the Viper, they are great. Pity that the last update brought back an old bug: AUTO steerpoint cannot be set anymore (with the dobber) in ICP in both stable and beta versions… 🤷🏼♂️

Great stuff; but still no MARKPOINT OFLY or HSD Creation? :*(
Le HTS cannot be carried with the Lightning.
- Le TGP cannot be "slave" sur le HAD (inverse cannot too).
- Le HAD cannot give a position so sharpre (not even in PT mode, which need some pods in networks doing specifics geometricals maneuvers and synchronise goniometrical)
- Le HTS dont know how to inform the state of the transmitter.
- symbologies are wrong (really it's not that at all)
- the link with the wing don't work like that but it's nice to try to implement it. Only CG can use this function.
Source :F16 engineer who work on the system for lots of year. Check the "other" game.
It's great that the f16 is implement in DCS but it's very very well known plane system which is devellopped for year in *censoredmyself*. So people will compare. Hope the final release will be as good, and even better than the *biiip* version.

Can you also create a mark point with your HCMS? A bit like the A10C II? That way you can cycle between mark points / slave TGP to MP / slave Maverick to TGP / Lock / Fire

I've been off DCS for a few months so I haven't seen the new AG features. Question: what is the benefit for using the FCR to find ground targets versus using the TGP?

You can appreciate the ground radar when you try to complete the "Above the clouds" instant action mission for F/A-18. Your target is a transport ship at iranian coast and its location is random. The only way is to use ground radar mode, make SPI and drop JDAMs thtough a dense layer of clouds.
When you forgot to bring a TGP…ask me how I know that.
Yes, it's stationary, but its position is random. According to the mossion briefing, cargo unloading is in progress.

Everytime I try to change the azimuth in the ground radar when I'm zoomed in in DBMS, it never has any effect, expecting it to update the refresh rate like in this at about 02:15. Did that get changed, or am I doing anything stupid?

I see what you did at the start pointing out h3 airfield… is that an expansion for PG or Syria?
Thinking Syria was done by an outside source would Wags be the one to announce it? They added Cypress but I've heard nothing about further additions -- although the location ("Western Iraq") does coincide with this map. Perhaps more hints later.
Me personally hope its for PG as that entire region is devoid -- Qatar and Bahrain could have been added, as well as "Southern Iraq" as far as I'm concerned.
Following step by step, including matching altitude and distance, my image of the airfield is not nearly as clear and unlike in the video, I cannot change azimuth in DBS1 and 2. I have to be in NORM or EXP. Also after setting azimuth to 10 degrees in EXP, and then changing to DBS1 and 2, the scan is not anywhere near as fast as shown in the video. At the point where CZ is selected in the video, CZ is not shown on my MFD. Have they made changes that accounts for this? Make following tutorials difficult when things don't match up.
I just tested and no such issue here. Please use our forum to post a track so we can see where you are going wrong.
@@MattWagner I uploaded to F16 forum but right now only showed slow scan with azimuth 10 degree in DBS, compared to how fast it is in the video, and the inability to change azimuth in DBS1 and 2.
@@MattWagner you must be using an older version in the video and when you tested. I posted in the forum and it was confirmed that adjusting azimuth in DSB1-2 is not accurate and was corrected in an update. The scan speed shown in your video for DSB also cannot be replicated so I can only assume that changed in an update.
Will we be able to set Markpoints via a HOTAS shortcut as well or will we always have to go to the Markpoint ICP page first?

Some servers have waypoints that can get upwards of 30+ waypoints. When I set a mark point it conflicts with the other waypoints already set in the system. Anyone know what to do in this situation?? Again new mark points starting at 26 will conflict with the actual preset waypoint 26-30. Thanks for any help.
You should only use steerpoints 1 to 25 for navigation.

And when do we start talking about expanding into west Iraq? H3 Northwest airfield by your coordinates looks like a first glance into the vecinety of Iraq. I sort of like the idea to expand into the east there. We still have a good 250MN playground from the Syrian border.
What happens if you already have 30 waypoints in a mission? Do markpoints overwrite them temporarily?
When I change the range manually in EXP, DBS or DBS2, it returns to NORM and its slightly annoying, is it a bug or is it normal ?

Dont know why but the viper doesn’t transfer coordinates of designated tgp , HUD and FCR tgt to DED WHEN TMS UP. So can not create a Mark.

Why do you need an offset for EXT/DBS to provide a detailed picture?

For me its almost imposible to employ weapons with this same method in the hornet. Please wags drop a video on that :)
I dont think there is functionality to create waypoints from tgp or radar designations in the hornet. I might (hope to) be wrong tho

You can. Marks are indicated as yellow crosses on the HSD that can be selected with the HSD cursor.

What's the clicking noise that starts at 6:04?
His throttle axis is jittering a bit on the afterburner detent. Going into afterburner over the detent makes a noise and if you keep moving your throttle over it it'll do that

Do you know how often a pilot would use the ground radar for an engagement?
there's precious few real world examples, and from all that I can gather, the bulk of these wars, maybe desert storm / shield and so forth, revolved around Air vs SAM... That said, if you can find one example of a pilot interview somewhere describing using his radar to find/locate actual ground targets (vs backup on waypoints like rivers/cities etc) I'd love to hear it
@@CameTo i read 2 books. both on the first gulf war. 1 a10, 1 f16 pilot. and every engagement they mentioned was either steer point, using mav seeker, or mk1 eyeball to find targets. never a mention of the radar.
