    • @fussballnot
      @fussballnot Před 2 lety +12

      @jcorb Actually jail IS a deterrent whereas the death penalty is not. But why is that pertinent here? Does your notion that jail is too cruel to exist stem from just watching 3 middle class white men facing a lifetime of incarceration? Have you always been a voice against incarceration or is this a newfound (like with this particular verdict) thing?

    • @billythakid7230
      @billythakid7230 Před 2 lety +12

      @jcorb Prison (and jail) is not a tool used to deter others to commit further crimes. It’s used as a consequence of committing a crime i.e murder.
      The emotional gratification in regards to this case is seeing the three men who hunted down and killed an unarmed man face the repercussions of their crime.
      In regards to your third reason of people misunderstanding human behaviour and what drives them. Unless you have a degree in behavioural science I don’t think no normal human being can comprehend how someone could kill an unarmed man in the middle of a street for no good reason.

Take a vacation from work and sit in ur room 23 hours for a week with no human contact and I bet it will have an affect on anyone's mental state. Arbery with his truck and forced him to run back to the Mcmichale's where travis was wating to provke an altercation and we know how it turned out. 2. He recorded the murder with his phone, which resulted in the main piece of evidence to convict both Greg and Travis and to an extent, himself. 3. He was so proud of what he did, he spoke freely about his involment... how he made a few moves... to trap A. Arbery and faulse imprissoned him which led to Travis murdering him. And then he said, I have nothing to do with it.... like you had everything to do with it. Had he stayed in his porch... he would be free and A. Arbery would probably be alive. @john coffey - piece of advice, all human beings are capable of heinous acts given the right set of circumstances. The world makes most, if not all, people bad by design and it takes effort to be good.
      Most people suppress their true selves because of consequences from laws and systems in place. Otherwise they’d do as they wish due to selfishness, greed, envy, pride, malice.
      It pains even more when your own family is planning to kill you over money (inheritance).
      Again, most people by design aren’t good. These convicted murderers just happened to have been caught but there’s scores of others who do egregious acts that go unpunished and they live amongst us as close friends, neighbors, workmates, etc. I learnt this the hard way!
