  • Hey everyone!
Love Unlucky Morpheus a lot and I'm also into pretty heavy stuff, so this 'spin-off' album should be right up my alley :D

Dark and aggressive vibes with beautiful Jill’s violin melody shining through, Unholy Orpheus is amazing live. This song was so incredible live. You can’t get enough. Jill is so much more badass in this project. Jill kills⚡️⚡️⚡️

This is one of the tracks that has a whole bunch of melodic death metal riffs instead of the more metalcore based sound on a lot of the other tracks and that combined with the great violin playing makes for a very melodic track. I really like this one a lot as well.

So now I can tell you after Mat mentions it, but there is one track that features Fuki and I have a feeling you will enjoy that more. I also have to commend you on sticking it out because I love harsh vocals and the ones on this album are very processed and not really my thing either. They are certainly not the easiest to listen to.

@@MaartenT I have never liked harsh vocals but as a musician i can appreciate the rest I just tune out what i do not like , it doesn't mean i think it is bad , vocals like that just put me in an emotional state I do not want to ever be in ever again I do love Fuki thoughso having her even if it is only on one song makes this journey worth it in the long run.

I forgot, you mentioned this before, that is a very understandable reason of not enjoying harsh vocals in music. Hopefully you can find some interesting parts in the music, they are some very talented musicians without question.

@@ericdarlington2332 This is very interesting, because I think I have a certain fascination for harsh vocals because it's like the opposite of my usual state of mind (which is relatively calm and unaggressive most of the time I'd say 😉)
Then again I grew up with harsh vocals since I was pretty young so I'm just used to it probably 😅

@@react-o-mat I grew up with quite the opposite no bands did this in the 60's 70's and most of the 80's. I am Veteran of both gulf wars and i paid a price emotionally anything aggressive harsh or overly dark triggers me as do fireworks and sudden loud noises . it took me a long time to climb back into the "light" and some recent tragedies with close friends and family have left me seeking out only positive and happy environments it is hard to explain many veterans will know exactly how i feel . anger, fear ,hate and depression are very powerful things and have led me into some serious troubles in the past

Fumiya is the drummer and he often seems to get called out by reactors - he was in Galneryus before UM also - though I know nothing about drums myself. Really enjoy the heavy and violin melody, but just can't handle the vocals :)

Fumiya has only been at galneryus for 4 years, and he has been at UM for a long time before joining galneryus

Not sure if it's going to help you, but the thing I have noticed over time by listening to a lot of harsh vocals is that they are basically a different instrument compared to clean vocals. They are more a rhythm or texture based instrument (a bit similar to what a rapper does) and clean vocals are more a melody based instrument. It's probably also why a lot of harsh vocals are mixed into the music instead of on top of it like with clean vocals.
I am not sure if that's the reason why I have gotten used to them over time, and to be fair I am not a huge fan of Shirens ultra processed vocals here either, but I am sure it helped for me. I have also noticed that I just focus on the cadence of the vocal delivery a lot of time, don't try to focus on what is said in the beginning. I have gotten a lot better in understanding what harsh vocalist say over time, but it honestly depends on the vocalist and the production if that's even possible or not.
And obviously, they will always be an acquired taste for people and a lot of people will never click with harsh vocals. But hopefully focussing on rhythm can help you stomach them better.

@@MaartenT I'm for sure already more ok with them than I'd say 2 years ago - but only in small measure, and generally female - there's very little music that I'll listen to with male vocals, even clean ones! But for example, I like Shiren's growls as that little emphasis in a song like Black Pentagram.
I think the point of them being rhythm or texture is a good one - I'm not usually into lyrics anyway (and find it hard to discern them) so that's fine with me - for example I love Angie's rapping and the addition that gives to songs as an additional layer. I just find that significant harsh vocals detracts from the melodic instruments rather than adding to them, but that's my personal taste.
