- This episode of the skatedeluxe buyer’s guide teaches you all about skateboard wheels & which diameters fit your trucks best. Other parameters as shape, contact patch & durometer are to adjust to the skating you want to use them for. Check as well: www.skatedeluxe.com/blog/en/w...
In the third episode of the skatedeluxe skateboard buyer’s guide, we show you the different sizes, diameters as well as the variations of durometer and shapes of skateboard wheels. To top it off, Arthur explains what flatspots are and how to avoid them.
✘ CHAPTER OVERVIEW
Intro | 00:00
➊ The Right Diameter | 00:40
In this chapter, you’ll learn how the diameter of your skateboard wheels affects the feel, speed, and acceleration of your setup and the pros and cons of the different sizes.
➋ The Right Hardness | 02:11
Skateboard wheels also have different characteristics at different degrees of hardness. Hard wheels are good for slides, soft wheels have more grip. Also, the durometer has a big impact on the speed of your wheels. We‘ll also explain the different durometer scales brands use for their wheels.
➌ Standard vs. Core Wheels | 04:37
If the core of your skateboard wheels is made of plastic, we call it a core wheel. In this chapter, you’ll learn what the differences are in comparison to standard wheels and the characteristics of both constructions.
➍ Wheel Widths & Shapes | 06:20
Skateboard wheels are available in a variety of widths and shapes. Each shape has its own characteristics that influence the feel of your setup and benefit different terrains. Arthur has all the information you need here.
➎ Flat Spots | 08:17
If you do a lot of power slides, your wheels will start to show some wear on the spots you slide on; as skateboarders, we call those flat spots. Here, you’ll learn how flats pots emerge and how you can avoid them.

Good content and easy to learn. Thanks for the video!
This was super helpful. I'm 30 years old and haven't had a board of my own since I was 17. I recently got the itch to skate again. And I wish they had these kinda videos when I was growing up.

earing him is so satisfying
wich pare of wheels do you prefer?
I ordered a 149 trucks for my deck and wanted to put 55m wheels on do i need to put a spacer pad
I NEED TO KNOW - does the middle shape of the wheel matter ? Like where the middle of the wheel is it’s either a circle or a star type shape ?????
I ride transition and vert, what wheel size do you recommend
54-56 mm should be fine for transitions. You can go up to 60 mm for Vert.
Will 54mm be fine on low trucks?
I wanna get bones v3 83b or 103a but the roads where i live are kinda old. Would it good to use them i heard they are ok for rough roads but i wanna make sure. I want some small wheels.
Hard to say from here how rough the roads in your area are ;) You can also take the Bones 100s OG for example.
What brand or type of wheels is the best for power slides?
I like bones but spitfire are good aswel
I hope he got school credit for this too
I like his deep voice
What is the a, b, c, d mean? example 104a 103b

if you wanna do tricks and go fast on the street which wheel hardness do you need?
Hey Linn, we suggest wheels with a hardness of 100A.
83b maybe bones stf
I'm planning on street skating what wheel size do you recommend?
50-53
I have 101A powell peralta wheels and when im riding around the street and they sound like hell.
I need softer wheels for street right??
softer should reduce noise, yes. But it's not always better, it may slow you down more on some slides, I mentionned it in the video iirc. Going wider is also an option.
Arthur Oudini thanks
Y’all heard of the 40mm 105a?? It can put you into a coma
Thanks great video. But what wheels should i buy?
can i go with 55 mm trucks on 53 mm wheels?
i have 52 mm wheels and my neighborhoods roads are rough, what is a good size for rough streets
53 or 54 I guess
What is the SHR percentage for street skating?
I guess you meant SHR for street wheels. No idea, I thought SHR was only for gaz, not for solids, could it still be calculated ?
I had a board I rode on a paper route in the 80's with 66/78a's slime balls..
Went straight to the comments section when he said "di-hu-meter". I'm lying, came here as soon as he started speaking.
I love hes voice
what about offset wheels? :)

I wanna one day ascend to this mans level of highness he must be using thy strain snoop dog gave him and hitting it together
this should be your application to work at a dispensary lol
Which wheels would you recommend as my first? I will mostly ride streets
I don't recommand brands, but as size, 52mm is probably a nice in-between. You'd have to adjust it with your own body size, If you have tall legs you could go bigger but then you'll need higher trucks. The main change with higher set-up is that you'll need more effort to hit the tail on the ground which is frequently a disadvantage for beginners. If the streets are rough around your area you might also want "not too hard wheels" it'll absorb some vibrations and impact from cracks and rocks.
Bones stf
Dude I got some fucken banana bread at work today, dude. Hell yeah

7:35 But physics says what the friction force does not depend on the contact area. ))
So where do I get these crack rocks
anyone know where i can find the english dub?
Skating on bad ground only street i will get a around 90A 53mm ? or should i go harder ?
Hi Phil,
it always depends on the state of the concrete your skating on - generally speaking, I'd suggest harder wheels for street skating like 100A. Nevertheless, it can be worth trying softer and bigger wheels (90A & 54mm) if the underground has a lot of cracks and holes. Hope I could help.
@@skatedeluxe yes thanks i found the Wiki on your Page. Bought 92A. Most time I skate on tarmac which is not really smooth. If you go slower most tricks stuck after landing so i think a bit softer than i had now is OK.
Man I got some big soft wheels and got care free about pebbles and cracks. Then jumped on some spitfires and ate it on alittle pebble. It pissed me off almost to the point of swearing off spitfires.
sounds dark and not that good english, but I am happy with this video! It helped a lot and not everyone can english good
put speed at 1.25 for a smooth listening experience.
Yo do you think I could pu nickel board wheels on it

Funny how some comments are shitting on this video but still getting wiser after seeing it. F#ing hypocrites.
can I do tricks with a 60mm wheel on a street deck?
Leeanne Lau itll be harder i believe , using wheels around 53mm should be easier
@@eazye4828 yeah but then I find them really, really noisy.
Also, I really like cruising and find the smaller wheels quite slow, but I want to learn tricks
Do you get wheel bite with 60mm? I just bought some 60mm for my skateboard and I’m afraid they will be too big. I hope not. Cause I want to skate in the street and just cruise
@@dodgeprince7183 you can put them on your board and test them out. If you get wheel bite, put some riser pads on or go for smaller wheels. You can always ask your local skate shop
