I also love how 100% in character it was for Joker. This show REALLY nails the characters, their personalities and what we love about them!
(Although in some comics it's heavily implied that Joker knows, he just doesn't care about Bruce Wayne, he wants the Batman.)

I like how the Joker psychoanalyzes Bruce the second the hood comes off, he can tell why Batman is doing it the second he sees his face.
To be fair, there's not really much psycho-analysis needed. The murder of Bruce's parents is common knowledge, so the moment you know he's Batman, his motivation behind that is pretty obvious.
That's actually something I find really interesting about Batman, that the illusion of Batman and Bruce Wayne being two different people is actually really delicate. The moment anyone seriously considers that they are the same person, it becomes immediately obvious from common knowledge that it's true. So Batman and Alfred have to focus on making sure no one would seriously consider that. Making the premise seem too ridiculous on the surface, staging fake Batman sightings while Bruce is publicly doing things, etc.

He picked all the males in Gotham, and removed everyone who doesn't fit the age and build of Batman. Then he removed the 99% who don't have money for batman tech. Then he went through the few remaining rich guys, buff guys, and found the one guy with a motive - parents taken away by crime. It was that simple.

I love how he doesn't bother disguising his voice anymore once he's unmasked. He doesn't try to pass it off as a second disguise, a mask beneath mask. He's just like "yeah, fuck it, I'm Bruce Wayne."
I am pretty sure most versions of his masks has a voice changer installed set to disrupt his voice, it is the reason why even among other heroes who know his identity that it does not change unless the mask comes off.
@@funkmantim2661 but in the context of the show, we've seen him do the Batman voice as Bruce Wayne. In the first scene Alfred appears in, he says "I don't want pigs in a blanket, I want to fight crime" in the Batman voices, but then later speaks in his normal Bruce voice
Granted, it seemed like the only people in the room were Joker and Scarecrow, and the scene of the former killing off the latter was cut for this preview, thus Bruce was probably thinking "f*** it."
I think it's a reflex thing. The moment the mask comes off, his subconcious forces him to swap how he behaves.

The best thing about the Joker is how many valid ways there are to interpret him. Each version of the Joker is different. Has a different relationship with Batman, different views on the world around him and himself, etc. What makes him tick is different. Yet, in almost every media to depict him, he feels so spot on. The truest thing possible about the Joker is that he's multiple choice.

Joker discovering Batman's identity does indeed ruin his obsession, in Bruce Timm's DC Animated Universe he only finally tries killing him after learning the secret from an abducted Tim Drake. When Joker doesn't know, as in The Dark Knight, he wants to "play" with the Bat forever.
He doesn't want to be rivals with Bruce Wayne, he wants to be rivals with Batman. Once he knows his identity he isn't Batman anymore, he's just Bruce Wayne in a costume.
IIRC, the White Knight version of Joker also kidnapped Jason Todd, who uttered "I wish I never met Bruce Wayne!" and decided to let him go into hiding before deliberately forcing himself to forget Batman's identity.
Wait, I thought in Return of the Joker he did that because he finally got bored of fighting Batman. He was still fixated on Bruce even though he knew who he was and saw Terry as the new kid who was in the way.
I like to think that he knows but doesn't particularly care, so long as he can have his fun. That's why he tends to avoid Wayne Enterprises and Wayne Manor
Following the comments here in Brazil. I'll give you my opinion.
There is the PERSON. The person experienced a childhood trauma. The person develops a quiet, serious, taciturn and austere personality. The person leaves his home and goes on a journey around the world. The person is extremely intelligent, and becomes a master of martial arts and an exceptional detective. The person returns to his hometown and decides to take justice into his own hands. The person goes by the name Bruce Wayne. But criminals are not afraid of Bruce Wayne. So, the person dresses up as Batman and scares the banished. However, no one can know that the person is a vigilante, so, in society, the person pretends to be snobby, immature and indifferent when he is without the mask.
The Person is Bruce Wayne. Bruce and Batman are the same person. There is no dissociation. The difference is that Bruce lies about himself without the bat mask. When he puts on the mask, he stops pretending to other people. Batman is Bruce's true personality, but it's still not real, it's still just a scary disguise. Bruce when he's alone, without his mask on, acts like Batman. Batman is Bruce Wayne. It's a single person.

It is very in character. Don’t know why everyone is so shocked by this. The comics, tv shows, most movie adaptations all depict him as being uncaring to Batman’s identity, in fact usually it is implied he makes an effort to *not* know.

Funny thing is that in the comics, there's a comic where it's revealed that Joker and Batman both know each other's real names, but neither of them tell anyone. Joker doesn't use the knowledge specifically because it's not fun to go after Bruce himself, and Batman doesn't use the knowledge because he wants to protect Joker's family.

I like to think that before this moment, Joker had a whole list of people who _could_ have been Batman, which is why he instantly knows Batman's background motives after the reveal, despite Bruce Wayne not sharing them.
Billionaire playboy who _famously_ watched his parents get murdered right in front of him? Yeah, I don't think Joker needed any prior research to connect the Wayne murders to Bruce's "mission", once he knew the latter's identity.
Joker at times actually made an active effort to NOT know who Batman was. He knew who Bruce Wayne was and what had happened to him because everyone in Gotham knew.
Anyone with half a brain would be able to figure out that Bruce was either Batman or funding him. Who else is actually a possibility in Gotham? Seriously.

there are multiple versions of the joker that know bruce is batman and just doesn't care. in a lot of those versions he almost draws a line and intentionally continues to ignore wayne's existence, he could just launch all out assaults on wayne manor or make a huge thing about unmasking him publicly, or regularly attack people close to bruce, but he seems to intentionally focus his actions against BATMAN and BATMAN'S connections. in his accident, the joker transcended whoever he was before and became what he is now, the mask doesn't come off so to speak and due to his insanity he has the clarity to see what most people don't, that "Bruce Wayne" is the mask, the one dimensional cardboard cutout character, and that Batman is the true face.
what joker says here is perfectly in character, knowing batman is bruce wayne steals all the meat out of the story, bruce is just a spoiled rich kid with PTSD and parental issues, and to joker that's boring theatre, keeping the dark anti-hero a secret until the final act is how you milk the drama for the audience. by removing the mask, scarecrow just sucked all the tension out of the dichotomy between protagonist and antagonist that joker has worked hard to nurture and revealed the writing of the play to be hackish and asinine, joker's reality just went from working in a grand dramatic comedy worthy of center stage, to realizing he's performing in a tacky small ring sideshow clown act opposite a two bit stand-in.

You know I thought only Mark Hamill could deliver an amazing joker voice. But I Gotta give it to Alan. The guy made it magical.
I like how this scene sets this Joker apart from the mainline comic one. In a recent storyline, Joker reveals he already knew who Batman really was, but never bothered to act on that information until now.
That was stupid. So stupid. Even Batman knowing who Joker's identity is stupid. That's the whole point. Joker's backstory should be multiple choice. But that just *had* to make him sit in that damn chair and the readers *had* to keep asking about the three Jokers for years, and it **sucked.** Three Jokers and Joker War felt less like The Joker and more a reskinned batman who laughs. I can't even remember her name, but she's pretty much just a Joker Robin, Harley's insane but that psychotic fangirl was just a Mary Sue version of Damian Wayne.
@XXMatt0040XX Punchline is now independent of Joker as well, and Batman 900 shed a little extra light on the whole Three Jokers thing, while arguably delivering a way better multiverse story than the Flash movie.
