Thanks for that - a useful tip! Never needed it, the Majors I've worked on have always started well, but suppose a battery was flat, out somewhere, and no slope to run down... I don't know if it would be possible without the use of the valve lifter/decompressor. But in this similar video: czcams.com/video/1tUfV7xnUTc/video.html - there seems to be more force needed - perhaps that time there was no decompression. They are both the same model of Major.
Worn tractors no bother to rope start from axel we often pulled rope with 2 or 3 men and some times we pulled rope with vw beetle car also stand on tractor with weak battery press starting lever with left foot and pull rope with 2 hands
I have been told about this truck by old-timers. Looks like it works well

Low compression ! Pulley bearings sound fooked still earning it's keep 😁😁👍👍👍
