That humble man working in the butchery with Kurt-Lee Arendse who asked him to help this young man. ❤❤❤ These are the South African heroes we don’t see who ALL contributed to back-to-back World Cup wins! And the man icing Siya Kolisi’s knee all hours of the night while he slept….. That is the spirit of our country when we come together. xxxx
I think this was the moment that all rugby lovers who suspected Rassie was a genius were proved wrong because the episode upgraded him to MAD genius. Honestly, I don't think even he knows where all of the ideas come from. Numbing down the players with speakers for an entire week is one thing, but the decision on the mark was something no one ... as in no one in coaching history would've even considered, as in losing 40 meters in the process why would they? But the mad genius calling refs and plotting and scheming with energy levels and stats, then actually having the balls to do it in a QF of a World Cup takes him to that level of mad genius ... just brilliant.
He used a similar tactic when he coached the Freestate to that 2005 CC final. He blared Steve Hofmeyr's Blou Bul song the whole week over the stadium speakers in the build up to that Loftus match
My wife has only see me cry once which impresses her that I'm some kind of stoic man but what she doesn't know is how I spring a leak when I sing the anthem before the match and when I watch Chasing the Sun.
The language that all those emotive lines is isiXhosa (the Xh is a click that you can learn by watching some videos...). The way they are speaking comes from the praise song culture and is absolutely magnificent. If you listen to it even without subtitles, it gives you chills. Those descriptions at the capping ceremony, and the bit about "son of Libbok" etc. give you an idea of how gorgeous their use of language is. Look up some videos of the isiXhosa commentary for an experience of it.
As a Bok fan i can honestly say Tim, we do cry our eyes out every episode. We go through all this challenges and struggles everyday, so we know exactly what sacrifices these guys and their families make to get where they are. Thanks for a great show.🤙🇿🇦😎
Every time Makazole opens his mouth, I cry. Every time I see him getting embarrassed for some of the attention he is getting from the public, I cry. Watching him with his injury, knowing he has to leave, I cried. Knowing that the only family he has is the 56 million people who will gladly be his brother / sister / parent / uncle / aunt.. I cry. And that's just one player. Then you quickly understand through this series, the bond that these players have, the hardship and worries they have, what they have done to get there and how they are going to hang on with every fibre of their bodies, watching Deon dealing with a very sick father or even RG choosing to run the extra distance so Kurt Lee has someone to celebrate with after the Scotland try, Duane's family talking about him, Kurt Lee working in a butchery, Siya going through what he did to get back to fitness.... There are no reasons NOT to cry!
The Boks are the biggest celebs in South Africa, bigger than TV / movie stars / musicians / etc. But they also put a lot back into the game. A few weeks ago Ox Nche was at my nieces primary school, all the way in a different province, and not one of his junior schools, just to celebrate the school now offering rugby as a sport.

Thanks, Tim. I love the way that you and Big Jim review this documentary. Also proud that a South African documentary is being praised as one of the best the sport has seen.
Thanks for a fantastic review. As a South African, I want to express my appreciation for your content on the whole. I find your analysis entertaining as anything, and it is refreshing to hear an Englishman speak to the potential impressions of bias (law change issues) given that we Saffas soften feel the world is against us on these issues. You have experienced a modicum of what it feels like to be South African, and why when people come here, they fall in love with our country and its people Thank you for highlighting the positives and keep up the good work!
As a South African and a Springbok fan i love your unbiased view of SA rugby including our franchise teams. I love listening to your comments and thoughts about rugby in general. I believe you will really feel the true love of our team when you visit later this year. Like Rassie said there is not much good going on in SA and the Boks is our escapism from reality for a few hours on a Saturday.
Ah bra im a afrikaans guy and im learning isizulu and isixhosa just so i can start watching with the commentary. its like watching rugby with stand up comedy and poetry rolles into one😂
What surprised me more than anything is how much coaching input Felix Jones did, I never knew he was that pivotal. It seems a big loss for SA. This documentary is amazing!
Same like i knew he was there and obviously played a role. But i didnt understand just how much of pivotal role Felix played. You dont often see that side of rugby and im loving it
I think Rassie is quietly chuffed that Felix has made such a name for himself that he has now been able to continue his evolution with England. And it won’t be too long before we see him as head coach at a top club and thereafter RWC before his career is over. I think it’s these small things, like spotting talent and helping it bloom, which gives Rassie deep and private satisfaction - far more than lifting the Cup, which, by his own admission is merely the cherry on top.
You are right. It is hard as a South African supporter not to get choked up by seeing our team and what went into this RWC. And then the f...ers leave us with a cliffhanger at the end of the episode 🤣.
Thanks for asking Tim. So we cry every Sunday, then on Monday morning, then the afternoon, then we wait for the next Sunday to cry again. Hope this clears that up.
Tim you need to read Rassie’s book or listen to audiobook. He used the playing opposition crowd noise to team during training preparation as long ago as 2005 when he played Loftus crowd noise & songs to Free State Cheetahs in preparation for Currie Cup final, which Free State subsequently won for the second time only and the first time since 1976!
As a Saffer in NZ, finally managed to get a source to watch...on episode 2 atm...goosebumps, this series does a good job of showing what rugby truly means to SA...it's so much more than just a sport. Really hope you enjoy your trip to SA, I haven't been back for various reasons beyond my control for a very long time. You will be looked after and you will be blown away by the rugby culture, enjoy it boet!
I have rewatched this QF game 3 times and everytime my hearts racing. No game of rugby like this have been played before or since. Everytime I thought that second try for the boks was mostly luck of the bounce, but in this episode to my suprise I learned that it was actually planned. The bounce helped for sure though
I've probably watched each episode 3 times, and each time I am crying my eyes out. There are no words that can explain what the Springboks mean to our country. It's far beyond a sport and anything I have ever experienced. They create pure magic. The feeling they bring us is so overwhelming with deep pride and hope. Winning the World Cup in 1995 and experiencing how 1 team, 1 game, 1 competition could literally change the heartbeat of a country was back then life-changing, and still is. Thank you for covering these episodes, It's awesome to hear your perspective on this and to see how others who are not South African appreciate the Springboks and their journey as much as we all do back home.
As things stand now, South Africa will again Defend the 2027 RWC under the curent leadership. Rassie started the video analysis of Rugby in the 90s,the lights system, the 6-2 split, then the 7-1 split, the boombox at training, the playstation based simulation . What a genius!
Great content as always Tim. Non-saffa (Tongan) Bok fan through and through here and unfortunately I can't watch the series here in Tonga. Able to watch whole ep 1 when it was still up on YT and i downloaded it as well (from a Saffa rugby channel) don't ask me how 😂 but still waiting for the whole ep 2 and onwards....Keep up the wonderful work and I can't wait for the Ireland series to watch you cover it all the way from the Home of the World Champs.
Great moment between ours teams at the end which I think was initiated by Tonga. Tonga played their best game against the Boks and scored the same number of tries as France did against us! NZ & Ire manage 1 try and all the other teams 0 tries
@@orlandosadie6283 yes their best game of the tournament. I cheered for their tries but was low-key wishing they'd score no more in case the Boks don't go through due to points diff lol!...But them praying together was the moment of the game for me and to be honest I was anticipating it even before the game started because I knew the Boks are the only team who prays as a collective with PI teams. I later read an article about it and Grant Williams shared that the Tongan team asked if they could pray for the Boks knowing it was their last pool match before the playoffs, and they actually prayed that the Boks will be successful in all 3 finals - how about that? I was frustated because our local tv broadcast cut to the ads before the actual moment and only got to see the pics of them praying hours later on the internet. Seeing them pray together cemented my belief that the Boks will go back go back. So while the rest of the teams had another game the Boks on their bye-week perfected their pounce for the playoffs and those teams still don't know what hit them.
@@qhamaclaasen4049 i'm sure it was from A&E rugby podcast channel. But they just posted lately that they got a warning for putting it up....for CTS1 I was only able to download ep 5 which is still up on YT, the rest of the eps I can't find them here.
I watched it last night, and couldn't wait for your review. Definitely my favourite episode. It had me at the edge of my seat as if I didnt know the results 😂
I shed lots of tears, also still have ptsd from the world cup. Sheesh emotions so high and nerves wrecked...and still have to relive the semi final and final!!!
I think you're laying some good groundwork for 2027 here, Tim. This world cup had a lot of bitterness, but you are modelling how someone can enjoy the success of other nations. Perhaps Borthwick might have some momentum then and perhaps it will be us enjoying England's success following your example here ❤
So the supporters that arrived at the stadium for the boks final training session are the "Gwijo squad". Famous group of supporters in SA who sing / chant war cries during games. They arrived on the week of the QF specifically for that game ( Seeing as Boks would've faced NZ or FR and this knockout game was guaranteed for the boks, the SF and FN weren't). Biggest games of the tournament for us. They were pivotal in my view.
You are right however, the guys he showed on the clip are also members of the iGwijo squad.Im guessing a few of their members were there from the beginning but the majority joined in semi final stages.
@@JeevaDotNetthey are free to open their own group, the Gwijo squad expenses came from their pockets.Members were required to pay R2500 a month for two years.Thats why they were able to get to France.I also received that communication as I joined their facebook page as a member.
The shotclock was actually reset for Mannie, if you rewatch the game (it's on CZcams now) you can hear the ref telling them to reset the clock while Mannie as libbing up to kick.
Outstanding episode! Wow the details, did not realise Felix Jones was so involved ! Rassie is brutal ! Love it ! Knows how to get the best out of men !
I was in SA during the world cup, visiting family. Even I was surprised (having not lived there for 20 years) at how many adds the springboks were in. It's clearly a very powerful brand there these days.
I really love your reviews, your passion not only for the game but also how you enjoy the Springbok's which admittedly is not everyone's cup of tea! I get choked up often in these episodes, and love every second of it. One word of warning though, when you come to SA for your Ireland, AB's, Craven Week and Affies games, you might request citizenship... I am sure you will be taken care of by rugby lovers. Unfortunately I am based in Dubai but if I am in SA at the same time as you my home Is open to you. Thank you for the content, I "discovered" this in the World Cup and love each episode!
I'm waiting for all of them to be up, so I can binge-watch the entire series in a single marathon sitting - same as I did with the 1st series, which was bloody marvelous! 🤘😁
it is crazy how I, and I absolutely know everyone else, can't wait for E4 just as much as the as the actual games! but then there's eggchasers's channel that helps getting you through the week😊
Yes I agree that episode was good. Took me back to the French match. Talk about a stressful watch. I love that they show the thinking on how to manage the French side and how the opening part France looked so scary. Crazy , fantastic, inspiring.
I adore how much so many people hate the Springboks for their "boring style" and "bringing nothing to the Union table". Rassie and the Boks happily win World Cups and innovate away with rugby documentaries, out of the box thinking in terms of on field plays, team selections, mind games with the opposition and their own team, all while keeping true to their main aim, giving our land something to cheer about. They know what life is like here for so many and they will do what it takes to bring smiles to SA faces. Let the pundits continue to whine about 7-1 and 8-0 and let the fans whine about 1 point victories and Ben O'Keefe and let French tears water their fields instead of the "impure blood of their enemies" (damn, France, maybe take a look at your national anthem).
I've watched this 5 times already! Cry, goosebumps, proud, angry all every time. Send your dates when you are in SA?Let's try and get an interview with Mr F Bom himself
Tim,thanks for a great show.and thanks for getting promoting the show.ive got family all over the world and theyve told me how rugby fans have come to hate the boks and they way we play.which hurts us. besides,if JK or some of those"pundits"had there way we would end up with something boring and monotonous.south africans know, its our differences that make us great.I love all the nations styles and cultures.no other sport has so many flavours.glory to the game.and to the irish fans on their way to the south, come thirsty.get ready to drink some brannas. Again Tim,thank you
if im not wrong, the shot clock libbok let run down was when o'keefe was double checking the try with the tmo, and had to restart the clock, but it didnt restart on the big screen. can hear him after asking the tmos to run get the clock restarted on the big screen
Brilliant Review. I think this documentary should have been called "Chasing the Effing Sun" to give it a bit of a throttle. My theory on SA's loss to IRE us that Rassie wasnt quite as upset as he made it out to be. He reacted the way he did to put keep his players in check. I think Rassie knew that if SA beat IRE and topped the group, they would meet NZ. He felt that NZ were more of a threat than FRA in spite of the hype about FRA being one of the favourites. So Rassie didn't mind, if fact was relieved they would meet FRA and IRE would meet NZ in the quarters. If Rassie really wanted to beat IRE, why did he not select Pollard over Mannie? Rassie is a master of the game in a sick way. Rassie thinks like a CIA agent. His thinking is very complex. While IRE were celebrating beating SA, we were relieved knowing anyone who would face NZ would have a nightmare of a game. Plus SA had a bone to pick with FRA who stole our WC hosting opportunity even though they hosted it as recent as 2007. We were delighted to beat them in their own backyard and deny them the chance to even reach the finals let alone win it. SA were motivated by revenge to destroy FRA and win the WC ultimately.
I've really enjoyed your reviews on CTS2 (earned you a subscription ;) ) - thanks for being unbiased and so enthusiastic about it! Yes, watching these episodes I'm reliving the stress of the WC again even though I know the results. And yes, I really get choked up watching some of these stories inbetween.
Another great review acknowledging the uniqueness and excellence of this series. Looking back, I can't believe we overcame France. And then England and NZ. Choking up big time!
Timbo slice, keep up the good work pal, looking forward to having you in Cape Town - Please organise a meetup at Firemans or Ferrymans, we'll all be there! Big fan of your work sir
Hey Tim, well, you feel like a South African brother to me. I watched your content through the RWC and now you’re watching CTS and tearing up and laughing with us over Rassies antics and getting the feels for our players and their life stories and how awesome is this? I know you will have an awesome time here, don’t be shy to ask us favours. Personally I’m happy to take you on a tour of Pretoria the ❤ of the Blue Bulls 🙈
Been watching your RWC reviews since last year. Pretty impressive how you remain objective while being a serious England fan... and sharing your heart along the way. Thanks!
Great review, you got my subscription a long time ago… one thing that you pointed out is that you can’t wait to see a schools game when in SA on a previous episode. I think you will be blown away by the sheer depth of Rugby in South Africa and the volume of talent. Traditionally South Africa has been a football country in terms of the greater population. However Rugby has over the last 7 years literally finally become a major sport in Black communities to the extent that whereas in the past you would only see football being played in the townships by kids now you genuinely see kids ( of their own accord) playing rugby. There is no longer any need for quotas in Rugby as there’s such a massive volume of all children playing the game naturally there is no longer a need for quotas. Why you see the Australians and New Zealanders go on about trying to change the rules to make it more like League is simple. They know that they are literally going to be blown away by the sheer volume of of talent. Remember South Africa has a population of 62 million … that’s thought the same size as the UK and France. ( That’s basically double and some of Australia and 10 times that of New Zealand) … There are only 2 codes of football .. Association (soccer) and Rugby Union … Rugby League simply does not has not and never will exist in SA. If as I believe Rugby Union even equals soccer in popularity that means you have 30 million people to choose from …. Compare that to the UK or France where Rugby is minuscule as you point out in comparison to soccer …. It means that no country as it stands will have the sheer depth of talent … The Bomb Squad was not an abnormality it literally shows the depth that South Africa has. To use a soccer analogy countries like Brazil, Argentina, Italy, and Germany only have one version of football in reality … as a result they are the only countries that have won 3 or more World Cups because they have the “production” line of youngsters just being churned out , no matter how many ways you look at it New Zealand with a population of 6 million ( even with the Pacific Islanders) will never ever be able to realistically compete against a population of 60 million in terms of talent over the long run. Ironically the only reason that historically South Africa hasn’t obliterated everyone was because Rugby was restricted to 10% of the population. Now that it has at least 70% of the population supporting it the Antipodeans are desperately trying to change it into the sport they play “League“ but even that will not work. Go back into history on other sports .. in the 50s/60s Australia and New Zealand has the best middle/long distance runners … then East African Countries started being able to compete … game over!
Just watched it. Great edge-of-the-seat stuff! Even knowing the outcome of all the games, hindsight still seems ambiguous as to the final outcome! Thank you for your channel Tim. Greetings from Durban!

Rassie sarcastically saying Daan Human is getting a salary just for 1 scrum was hilarious 🤣
And you can hear Daan going BUT BUT BUT in his mind.
One of my favourite moments 😂😂😂
Daan taking it that seriously was the cherry ontop
That was ridiculously funny
I love how each week I can watch the episode and then come here to stretch out the enjoyment for a few more minutes...

Hey there, where can I pvt message you?
Please tell me where you downloaded from
@@qhamaclaasen4049 i'm sure it was from A&E rugby podcast channel. But they just posted lately that they got a warning for putting it up....for CTS1 I was only able to download ep 5 which is still up on YT, the rest of the eps I can't find them here.
I cried with the Kurt Lee Arendse part
I watched it last night, and couldn't wait for your review. Definitely my favourite episode. It had me at the edge of my seat as if I didnt know the results 😂
I shed lots of tears, also still have ptsd from the world cup. Sheesh emotions so high and nerves wrecked...and still have to relive the semi final and final!!!
Fantastic reviews, entertaining, fun, and full of detail. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌 👍
I think you're laying some good groundwork for 2027 here, Tim. This world cup had a lot of bitterness, but you are modelling how someone can enjoy the success of other nations. Perhaps Borthwick might have some momentum then and perhaps it will be us enjoying England's success following your example here ❤
Have enjoyed your channel since during the world cup build ups Tim. Great unbiased analysis. Thanks
Enjoying your content. Love from South Africa
They are called the Gwijo Squad (the singers). Great channel, we love our players and our rugby
I cried on the first Chasing the sun series when they were in the final and that song played, “Ntaka Mama” gets me everytime
Way back when Rassie was Cheetahs coach, he did something similar by playing the Bulls theme song repeatedly at training leading up to the CC final.
Your channel is solid f*^^%ing gold Tim.
So how come no "Volkspele" group? Very one sided and cultural bias.
Choked up indeed. What a country. Looking forward to your visit, Tim.
Earned my subscription before the RWC Tim... Got my mates at the office to subscribe during the RWC and they all still watch every video. Go Bokke
Rugby is the closest thing we get to those wars we see in the old movies were guys would run at each other screaming with swords and spears
I'm waiting for all of them to be up, so I can binge-watch the entire series in a single marathon sitting - same as I did with the 1st series, which was bloody marvelous! 🤘😁
wtf hoe kry jy dit reg
it is crazy how I, and I absolutely know everyone else, can't wait for E4 just as much as the as the actual games! but then there's eggchasers's channel that helps getting you through the week😊
Yes
Thanks for your passionate reviews Tim. I am a Staffa, living in Australia. So very proud of the Bokke!
The Best rugga channel on YT covers the best doccie ever!!! Joh, I watch every episode of CTS2 like 3 times after it airs.
Yes I agree that episode was good. Took me back to the French match. Talk about a stressful watch. I love that they show the thinking on how to manage the French side and how the opening part France looked so scary. Crazy , fantastic, inspiring.
I adore how much so many people hate the Springboks for their "boring style" and
"bringing nothing to the Union table".
Awesome review Buddy. I was there to witness this epic match, gives me goose bumps all over again. The French were silenced after the match.
Again Tim,thank you
Never tire watching this💪🏻🇿🇦💪🏽
if im not wrong, the shot clock libbok let run down was when o'keefe was double checking the try with the tmo, and had to restart the clock, but it didnt restart on the big screen. can hear him after asking the tmos to run get the clock restarted on the big screen
Love your chasing the sun, thank you for your fantastic series it has brought so many tears to my eyes Jean Gaydon
Felix Jones is a weapon. Phenomenal coach, we'll miss him!
Man I love your unbiased views. You're the best.
Another great review acknowledging the uniqueness and excellence of this series. Looking back, I can't believe we overcame France. And then England and NZ. Choking up big time!
Felix Jones another Munster success
Kurt-Lee Arendse story is yet another amazing one - as is Manie Libboks - notice how prominent grand mothers are in theirs and Siyas lives….
Love the way you cover it Tim 😊
Timbo slice, keep up the good work pal, looking forward to having you in Cape Town - Please organise a meetup at Firemans or Ferrymans, we'll all be there! Big fan of your work sir
Great review again Tim! My favourite moment is Rassie the Director of Rugby carting around the massive speaker 😂
"but it doesn't matter. They just show you what's on the screen..." Great delivery 😂😂😂
Sending you positive vibrations all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
Hey Tim, well, you feel like a South African brother to me. I watched your content through the RWC and now you’re watching CTS and tearing up and laughing with us over Rassies antics and getting the feels for our players and their life stories and how awesome is this? I know you will have an awesome time here, don’t be shy to ask us favours. Personally I’m happy to take you on a tour of Pretoria the ❤ of the Blue Bulls 🙈
Been watching you since world cup. Your takes are on point and you love the game
Been watching your RWC reviews since last year. Pretty impressive how you remain objective while being a serious England fan... and sharing your heart along the way. Thanks!
Awesome channel
Tnx for your balanced unbiased views. You are a true fan of rugby🎉
Great job Tim. I watch each episode twice, then your blog after. Thanks
I can't wait for you to come to Cape Town later this year Tim. Super excited
Fantastic review Tim 😊thank you !
