      It's good to be proactive. Bugs and plants will always be a thing. I ordered some beneficial mites (if they survived the winter storm in the delivery truck) and will let those guys do their work this winter.

    I like those sprayers as well. Have you tried clove oil with water in a spray bottle? It numbs insects to death and it's organic. Also works on spider's, roaches, ants.

      Health food stores, I make it strong 10 drops or more depending on size of sprayer. I learned this from an orchard, clove was the only ingredient I could buy that they used on there trees to kill pests. I've been using ever since.

    Thanks for the video. I just went to check a couple of my plants 🧐I put them in front of my led grow light bulb and sure enough…on my thornless crown of thorns, tiger tooth aloe and I’m sure many more…I’m going to spray leaves with water to start. What about neem oil spray will that work? Do you have two products by Safer or just one?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Před 2 lety

      As far as I know you can use neem to spray for mites, but I know there are some plants that you shouldn't use it on, which I can't remember. I don't have much experience with neem oil, so I can't say whether I would recommend it or not.
      I have two safers products, yes. The insecticidal soap and then insecticide....different ingredients. I have been trying to use the soap one to see how it responds to pests. I used to use the insecticide as a preventative, but it sounds like some bugs can become resistant to it.

    Thank you for sharing, my plants are dealing with some type of mite that leaves no webbing... How do you keep your plants healthy during winter? Do you turn on the heater, remove them away from windows? I have some plants that need to stay on my windowsill and it's making me nervous as it's getting colder.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, we run our furnace pretty much until March now lol Somedays here in Saskatchewan it will get down to the -30C range. I do absolutely nothing with my plants other then set up a humidifier if it gets too low. All my windowsill plants remain on the windowsill. Even my plants (ficus elastica) near our back door gets bursts of cold air and it is fine. Now I know certain pla to don't tolerate those types of changes so just do some research on the plants you have and relocate if necessary.
      Where are you located?

    Do you find the insecticidal spray to work? Someone said that for spider mites in particular, you need to use a "miticidal" soap? I might have spealt that wrong lol! I personally haven't had issues with pests as 99% of my plants are in semi-hydro. When I first bring it home, I skip the quarantine and removed it from the pot and soil, soak it luke warm water with a little soap and attampt to get the clean enough. If I'm extra paranoid I use my alcohol, soap, water, neem spray on it before soaking. Then it goes into leca. I've seen the us of pest soaps from the store but I feel confused by them! It's chilly here to in Cochrane/Calgary! Brr

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Před 2 lety

      I think so. The issue with these types of sprays is that it needs to coat the bugs (contact spray). That's why it's super important to get under the leaves where most mites are. It's been a few days since spraying and I haven't seen any new webs yet.
      I used to strip and wash my plants off too, but with spidermites they can just blow in with open windows and doors in the summer and fall.....then multiply.
