I could almost taste that Toby breakfast and the waffle! That Flibco terminal was a construction site the last time I passed by. It does look pretty impressive. It's amazing what happens to an airport when Ryanair arrives. You mentioned how European towns are buzzing, while British towns aren't. Earlier this year I read an EU article about what was wrong with the UK economy. Three things (without getting political) - Brexit, the growing disparity between rich and poor, and the UK just doesn't produce as much as she once did. Sigh.

It's a real sad feeling to compare bustling European towns and cities to what's happening back home. Thank god we still have our fantastic wilderness, humour, music etc, but in so many other ways we're dropping further and further behind what's even acceptable. On a brighter note, Charleroi is looking fantastic, my expectations have always been low arriving there, and maybe the sunny day made a difference, but it was almost like a cafe culture vibe :)

Hope you enjoy (enjoyed...it's the future now) Maastricht, Steve.
I will have to look into cheap flights to Charleroi from my local airports down on the south coast. That hub had some nice routes. I wouldn't mind visiting Ghent and Bruges again. I did both cities in a day last year so it'd be nice to spend more time there.
If you haven't been before, can I recommend Luxembourg (I saw there was a coach there)? It's a gem of a city, and not as pricy as you might think.

Great journey planning, Steve! I've only been through Charleroi once (from Edinburgh) and it's a useful hub. Maastricht looks like yet another beautifully clean and well-maintained European city with immaculate paved streets; it makes you wonder where did we go wrong in the UK? Looking forward to you exploring the city! Thanks for taking us along.

We've always thought that early morning flights are better: not only do they save you money, you get more time at your destination! Combine that with a late flight back, and you can really cram stuff in over a long weekend!

Great video. Your tiredness mixed with the crowds of Edinburgh airport felt very real, which is why I normally try and fly from Aiberdeen where possible. When I flew from Edinburgh earlier in the year, I was gate 4 but gate 3 was boarding either WestJet or United and the queue to get was snaking along the corridor and blocking my route to the Oslo flight.
European border crossings are the best, especially when the only way you can tell is that the lines on the road have a slightly different pattern. Although, when I was crossing borders back in June, Norway to Denmark was via the Kristiansand to Hirtshals ferry, then Denmark to Sweden was via the Øresund Bridge and finally back into Norway was over the Svinesund Bridge so they all felt significant.
