What i do with my life is sitting in my room thinking for hours trying to figure out what the hell to do with my life. It has been driving me insane! I can't seem to identify my goals. I also have a very poor social life and not many friends. And im soo jealous of other people's lifes. I already know that sitting here won't help me and I just want to change things SO bad but I don't even know what the hell I want. I just DON'T KNOW. I am getting more and more depressed.

videoaks007 If you're like me, you get bored easily because life can be boring in general. My solution was to travel. I saw how close people came to death in their lives (though that experience was not the plan) no food sometimes and no social security etc. Gave me a new perspective. Of course, travel afar is not something we can all do, but there are alternatives like volunteering down the local hospital. Think of the most alien way of life accessible to you... after experience, you'll see things differently, perhaps you'll invent something to help people; perhaps seeing your life from outside, you'll see the obstacles to success that when right in front of you, were too close to get your head around.

I've watched nearly every video on "finding your purpose," "finding your calling," etc. and this was the ONLY ONE I found that was practical, realistic, and blunt. It also made me feel a lot better since I've had a wide variety of work experiences and people try to make me feel bad about my "lack of stability" and not finding a "real career." I suppose now it's just a matter of reflecting on my past experience and analyzing my likes and dislikes. I will continue to give new opportunities a try and ask more questions. This video was very helpful and motivational for me! Thank you so much.

finding what you want to do in life is easy. the problem is when your passion isn't paying the bills and may never pay the bills. then you have to figure out a plan b aka what is something that I don't want to do with my life that I can do the rest of my life. If an actor never gets that big break and are not good enough, then what do they do? see what im getting at? same with artist, writers, singers, dancers, ect ect our plan b is something we are forced to do for money despite not wanting to do it.

I stopped around the 3 minute mark. I can't figure out what to do with my life not because I do not have enough exposure or information, but because I have such a cornucopia of ideas that I could feast my all the days of my life and still become an expert at none.
I want to start a CZcams talk show but can't narrow it down to a single topic
    I started and stopped blogging
I started (and failed) at a digital marketing company
I tried (and failed) at affiliate marketing
Sold insurance, did hair, made jewelry, finished a degree, and still I have no frigging clue what I want to do for more than 2 minutes at a time. So for the last 2 years I have done nothing. It feels weird. I'm stagnate, but also afraid of jumping into something new that will eventually fail, as have so many of my past projects.

Sorry but this apply to young people only, i'm 32 and i had 43 jobs in the last 12 years ranging from factory workers, sales, hospitality, logistic, outdoor, indoor, office, manual jobs....her's the truth: some people just don't enjoy work! they will never find what doesn't exist, the best option is to find a job that require the least amount of effort, basically getting pay to do nothing (yes there are such jobs if you look for it an example is night security guard in hotels)

    • @lv-426devasher6

I’ve had a few well-paying jobs and I do Security in the hood now. I work with the police, making it exciting. Many people do not realize the different levels of security work. I treat it as a career. If you get into management, salary positions pay very well. There is cyber-security, investigative security, personal body guard security, insurance security, tactical security contracts abroad, or working for Home Land Security. I’ve got a a degree in Criminal Justice and my prospects are limitless. A night security guard is a good way to get your foot in the door. It also leaves your day open for training, school, & networking.

    This is so true.
I thought i was going to be a fashion designer since i was a kid coz i like fashion, i asked a designer if i can intern for him part time for free. Ofcourse he said yes, i spent 3 months there and i just didn't think it is something that i wanna do my whole life, i thought there was something that i am more into than designing. After 3 month i told the designer that i was trying to find out if i really like designing and i stopped going there and pursued something else that i felt like i was into again. Still searching but it is worth it.
You don't want to go to college to be a doctor and graduate and end up having the shittiest days of your life working with all that stress even tho the pay can be good.
Happiness is everything, money is just paper sometimes.
The happiest people do what they love, be good at it and find a way to make a living doing it. They don't do things for the money.

I was almost the same way but I'm glad I stayed busy as crap during those years. I mean I just took this job when I graduated from HS at 17 and it was called an electrician with the Air National Guard which immediately led me to the United States Air Force for many years. I was too busy building a career to think about much else. Everyone is different though with different goals and weaknesses. I am not totally happy with what I do now because of burn out but I have a back up plan. Truly, this video sums it up very nicely exactly how the major part of the real world works when it comes to not having a degree, not being lazy, not having an attitude about this video production, and taking your life in your own hands and getting the skills, contacts, etc, on your side so at least to be on a payroll somewhere and eat. There's more to it than that of course but it starts with a spark inside of you. And it helps to talk to someone at a technical school, college, university, career guidance counselor in HS, but someone who gives a crap. Some do and some don't. Find one. Ask around. No one should continue to be uncomfortable with their situation in the greatest nation on the planet. Ever!

***** well there is some truth in the comment. People watch these videos and expect to get an answer on what they should and want to do with their life. But i think the only person that can answer this question is yourself. Imagina what you would do if money would not matter and then get (if possible a good) education or a job in that field. I love language learning and i want to travel the world so i study chinese. I love the decision i made a year ago but i am just 19 years old so my opinion is not very sophisticated. Why are you struggling to figure out what to do with your life? That's a GOOD thing! You're thinking! You're not being a sheep(a follower) who's under public influence or in the want to "FIT IN". Success is not measured by Wealth, Social Class or Materialism but rather finding inner peace within yourself. Know Thy Self. Whatever draws to you POSITIVELY, chase after it. Life is a a College/University itself as we continue to GROW and LEARN everyday by our experiences. Remember, before you plan on going after a certain goal. It's important to know yourself. It's ok take your time. Don't let the media or society define WHO you are. This planet is for everyone to enjoy. One Love!

Because after tons of experience in various industries, fields, countless mentors, therapy, self-help books, starting 3 businesses, freelancing, you name it and I've done it... this whole "you haven't lived enough" is good food for thought for very young people, but not for regular mortals tbh

Thanks Whitney.Good job getting your point across.I agree with you.Not enough information and that happens by not taking action, just thinking and hoping something will come to mind that is absolutely certain to work for you.Its the "absolute certainty" party that keeps you in your head without taking action.Like you said, you have to get in the real world and take some action trying things out.You wont find that certainty, one way or the other until you take action.

I'm kind of uneasy about taking a job just for the experience because I feel I could be lying in the interview about my objectives. I mean, if I say "I dunno, I'm just figuring it out", I don't think I'm gonna get hired. Also, I'm not very comfortable with lying. The job I'm talking about in particular is not my favourite thing to do, but I've never experimented with it in a work place.

    Hi Whitney,
I'm 23 y.o. now. I'll hopefully graduate from a master's degree from computer science and I've worked in software engineering company for a year as well. Then I've quit my job and went for a masters degree (in a field that turned out to be something that I still don't like again). I feel like it is too late to change my career path and even when I find the courage to change it, like you've said, I fear it will appear to be different "in the trenches" and I might still hate it and regret my decision in the end. How do I go about figuring that out? When I look at my "goals" in life, it is just to live a peaceful, mediocre life just like the middle-class retirees! I sound like a slacker but I'm good at programming. I just don't like my job anymore, not one bit....
What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Hi, in your opinion im confuse what I should do. Honestly i have an idea of what I want to do which is to own my business one day but I've been told by family members to go with a career that is more profitable or guarantees a job and higher pay such as Accounting. so I'm debating whether to go for a career that has a high pay and profitable (Accounting) v.s. what I am truly passionate about which is owning my own business one day. so please let me know if you have any tip to help me decide.

Well money's nice to have, but it doesn't take away the frustration of being trapped in a job which doesn't interest you merely for the sake of making money. The people telling you to get a steady job are worried that your business might not take off, but how will you know unless you try it?

Hi I watched this video a while ago and I have been interviewing people about their jobs... I have found nothing that seems for me though. I actually thought about interviewing people about their jobs but I never put it into action until I watched your videos. I'm turning 17 and I still have many doubts in my mind. Should I go to university/college? What is my passion? I don't know what to do...

    Hi Abdessalam!
Thank you for your question! I had to think for a bit before I came back with a response.
First -- What makes these "problems of life" problems? Because they make you afraid? Question if you are loved or if the world has love to offer humanity?
Identify what is making your problem a problem. Then, how you can resolve this within yourself? What action will take you closer to where you'd like to be? Do you need to find courage where you are now looking for "the easy way?

I already did this and I am getting no where. Its great advise but to be honest it SUPER sucks when you already been through college and you have these questions and your area is saturated or there is no opportunities near you or after like 10 years you dont have an answer. Especially the fact that every company wants a 10 year up the ass credentialed individual.

I want to point out it's not true in my case what you say. No disrespect.
I am 45yo. I have travelled to 125 countries, lived in 14. I have had so many jobs, it's not funny. I've worked in all areas from painting statues to customer service to teaching English to working in hospitality to working in travel to working for government to design to IT to acting to working in sales and the list goes on. I kid you not.
At 45 I still have no idea what I want in life. It's not because of a lack of travel or Information or ignorance, it's the opposite for me. I also speak 7 languages and have two nationalities.
I disagree with you on your theory.
Thank you for posting this video.

How do you know the people you might happen to talk to aren't biased or glossing things over? Saying web research isn't worth much is like saying you can't learn from a textbook; you can learn plenty, just not all the unspoken stuff. I'd start with a site like "Occupational Outlook Handbook" (BLS gov) that describes all sorts of careers and what's needed to get them. You first have to narrow down what you seek and the Internet is ideal for that.

I'm a 23 y/o firefighter,(been it for 5 years) I enjoy my job but I don't feel it fulfilling, I feel there's something bigger I could achieve. I have a generous spectrum of things I enjoy and don´t know if thats the reason I feel I could acomplish something WAY bigger. As I see it I´m stuck because I can´t figure out if I should develop my brain dedicating to science (phisics) or to arts (also I´m a musician)... becoming a pilot, or other pleasures like photography or entertainment or what!!? help?

aligatorsandcrickets You are sorrrta the opposite of me, in what u wrote.. I just recently studied science, I do some music but I wouldn't say I'm a musician (not there just yet), and I do freelance work as a photographer. I also studied culinary 5 years ago but it didn't pay much for all that hard, tiring work and which lead me to studying science. [I THINK I wanna do food science... but what if i get bored of that? IDK.] I mostly want something stable other than these side projects.
U at least have a good job as a firefighter, the music and the photography can be side projects if u wanna start there... buy a DSLR and take one photography class at a community college. A canon 70D is good to start lol. ugh, I'm just ranting, my LIFE is a rant.. and its late, goodnight.

Great! Kudos to you for taking action--that's 9/10 of the battle (but alas, doesn't prevent it from sometimes being a looong battle).
"Passion" is such a heavy word... let's drop it and start thinking about what sounds like plain old fun... as in, someone suggests to you an afterschool activity-- (whale watching, beta testing a new technology, researching trilobites) what would make your eyes light up and say without hesitation, "oh MY gosh, that sounds like **so much fun**!!"
