Yes! Sam helped me realize that slightly imperfect makeup was my thing, several years ago. It's still my thing, even as the heavy Instagram makeup looks have taken over the internet.
This is a beautiful late spring, summer look for wearing a dark or black cocktail dress. Great symmetry in the look. And, it is great to have your tutorials on this platform for we former Goth girls, who cannot quite pull off that look in our 40s+.

I'm 45 (46 this year), and what I've noticed is that as I get older, it's not that I can't experiment as much, as some ageist institutions have claimed. It's that I've settled into my own style and learned the lay of my own features, how they've changed over the years, and what truly suits them. You're not circumscribing, you're actualising. So like, I've learned that anything remotely warm-toned is going to make me look septic, and that "Sentient Patrick Nagel Painting" is my default aesthetic. So I'm having a lot more fun with makeup now than I did in my 20s and 30s, when it was all about throwing half of Sephora at my face to see what stuck.

The real magic here is blending shadow with your finger right up under the lower lash line with extra long nails, without stabbing your eyeball. Love this look I’m going to try it out thanks Sam

What a treat, a good old fashioned grungy eye look using Mac Powersurge! I bought that pencil based on your recommendation that it's a good one in the waterline if you don't want to close off your eyes too much. Must have been 2016 or so, I still have it and I love it!

Hi Sam, the balance is perfection! Messy eyes need perfected skin. When I was younger (oh those grungy days) I did not need concealer and wore yesterdays smudged eyeliner with some "fresh" eyeshadow on top. And it looked stunning. Nowadays I have to tidy up more. But still love dark messy eyes.

I love the messy undone look, especially after the last 4 years of *heavy* McGrath, Denona, Huda, etc. with wings, drag queen lashes, dirt brown contour, highlighter seen in outer space, dry liquid lips.
I've embraced the sheer, messy undone look with my falling in love with Rituel de Fille. Their products are so unique, so multi-tasking, so easy, so beautiful!

You are the queen of rocking “messy” looks, but still having it look elegant but totally bada$$ 😁 edgy yet chic. I just love it. I swear I learn something new with every single one of your videos. You are absolutely right about balance. I think with social media like IG and TikTok makeup looks are taken over the top. There is very much still an art form to those kinds of looks, but everyone loves a wearable, and not overly time consuming look as well. I still love making a statement, but now that I’m in my 30’s, when I do a look I would have done in my 20’s, I feel like I’m just trying too hard. I am still working on striking that balance.
I am not going to stand there and blend 4 different eyeshadows for 45 minutes hahaha! Those "gurus" are totally unrelatable. I don't watch makeup tutorials from anyone under the age of 30.
Well the Instagram style makeup is a whole other can of worms. Super detailed and time consuming to do. This makeup is more simple to do, but still impactful and wearable. I love it.

Oh Sam, I went looking for a vid from you tonight as I needed your magic to quiet my brain. You being back on CZcams is beyond words. This look is me, late 80s at Uni. Then bar nights when I worked nursing. And yes, that balance could be possible for me at 55! I watched every second. Is it possible to still be a breath of fresh air after all these years? Sam x Me and my sister are a lot like you and yours. I like kohl eyeliner and smudged eye makeup. She likes liquid eyeliner and everything done perfectly. I love our differences. Life would be so dull if everyones style was the same. Love this look!!! I like doing it with dirty greys and muddy greens, they seem to suit me better than browns but it's the same messy look. I love it!!
