I may have made tip #5 into #1 as the result of an October '22 Alaska cruise on NCL. Despite purchasing the Premium Plus beverage package, I found that I had been charged for every drink when I checked my onboard account! Luckily I checked this before leaving the ship and was able to correct the situation with Guest Services.
Disembarkation a couple of weeks ago from Getaway in Port Canaveral, Florida was incredibly frustrating and such a chaotic mess. There were delays, non-existent color section, which ended up being in 3 different places, and very little help from NCL staff. Took me over an hour to find my suitcase. After experiencing such a wonderful cruise and amazing service, this was such a disappointment. I will definitely self-debark next time I sail with NCL.
Like your Internet, any unused (non refundable ) OBC gets dissolved once you get your final bill, so don't leave any free money on the table!
Thanks for sharing Mike! Absolutely make the most of what you're given. 😀
Good to know!
I just love how happy you are! Thanks for the tips.
Tammy aren't you just the sweetest 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you so much!
Thanks for the breakfast tip! Definitely looking forward to a non-rushed sit down last breakfast on the cruise.
Glad it's a useful tip! I'm not always an early riser 😴 but when I am it's a much more relaxing way to start disembarkation day.
I love these videos! They are so helpful as we are going on our first cruise soon! Thank you Grant.
Hi Merry 👋 Thank you so much for the kind words!! I'm so happy when folks share that they find my videos helpful! 😊
Love the channel thank you!!! Big NCL cruiser so any tips r great tips.
Jeanne thank you so much 🥰🥰🥰 I so much appreciate your support and encouragement! More good stuff coming soon! I aim to post a new video every two weeks. Welcome to the Cruise with Grant fam 🫶
I did the shore excursion and airport transfer on my last cruise on the day of disembarkation. Great tip! Thanks Grant.
Hi Merzena 👋 I'm so happy the tips helped! I've done shore excursions a bunch of times and it can be both an interesting way to spend the afternoon and to save some monies!! Where did you go on your excursion?
Hi! My first cruise is in a couple months, on NCL. I'm so glad I've found your channel. I hope I run into you on some future cruise, you just seem so sparkly and fun!
Hi Helen 👋 Your first cruise, hooray! 🥳 I know you'll have a great time! I'm happy you found my channel too (and you also definitely captured my essence). I hope we bump into each other on an adventure too!
Great tips as always Grant
Hi there 👋 You're most welcome! 🙌
Hi, Great video, We are going to the Amtrak station in Seattle, lots of time to spare, are there plenty of taxis on pier 66, also s there much to do around the train station. Its a 4.45 leaving to Chicago.
Thanks mark
Great tips . Thx you
Thank Darlene! 🥰
Great tips!
Thanks so much! I'm so glad they were helpful! 🙌
I really enjoy yogur videos. Thanks for the recomendaciones and tíos.
Con mucho gusto! 🙌☺️
We always hate the last day of a cruise. These are helpful tips, especially the one about getting to the airport.
Disembarkation is always the saddest day, but hopefully these tips help make it go a little bit more smoothly. 🤞 😀 Thanks for all of your supportive comments!
I would suggest checking throughout the cruise. I've had issues take multiple tries to get resolved. If you check regularly it may reduce any stress!
I have someone picking me up later closer to 11am. will I be able to just hang out and sleep to 9 then. goto the main dining and eat slowly?
I did the Old San Juan tour. If you book your flight through the cruiseline, they will schedule a later flight if you have a tour. Warning, the OSJ tour only goes to the fort. Then it drives you to a couple of spots like a beach on the way to the airport.
Thanks for sharing your experience! It's always good to know a bit more about what to expect. I haven't been to San Juan yet, it's one of the places on my bucket list!
Since I'm sailing on January 1st, will I get the carton s of water with my free at sea beverage package? Grant your videos are great and very useful. Love them. Have help me aton.
Hi Lily 👋 Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm so glad that the videos are helpful. Your question about when the water perk kicks in is an excellent one. I would suggest reaching out to NCL to confirm. I've used the chat feature on their website as it's a quick way to get answers to questions like this. Wishing you a wonderful cruise! Where are you headed?
@@CruisewithGrant I'll be on Epic fromSan Juan to the Carribean starting December 30. Hoping to have a great time celebrating New Year Eve. Is the White Party that night?
Do NCL offer free. Transportation to & from Airport
What happens to your luggage when doing an excursion on Disembarkation day? Do you have to carry/wheel your bags around wth you or is there someplace safe to stow them until you head to the airport?
Hi Stacy 👋 This is a popular question; the three times I've done this they've had a big tour bus where bags are stored until you get to the airport. Very convenient!
Great tips! Thank you. I only cruise NCL and didn't know about the MDR being an option for the day of disembarking. Do you know their hours of operation on that morning or where I can find that information?
Hi Judy 👋 Thank you! I’m so glad it was helpful! If you look in the blue “you’ll be leaving soon” booklet they leave in your room it has details on disembarkation day hours. I absolutely love a little relax time before a usually busy travel day. ☺️ Do you have any upcoming cruises planned?
@@CruisewithGrant Thank you Grant! I guess I need to read the whole booklet! Yes, I will be going on Bliss to the Mexican Riveira at the end of February and in December I'll be on the Gem for the Panama Canal cruise. Then in September of '25 I've booked an Alaskan cruise from Whittier to Vancouver on Jade. It'll be my first time on a smaller ship and I'm looking forward to all these cruises! Do you have any planned/booked?
Hi..on the bonus tip...did u carry your luggage on the excursion
Hi there! This is a great question. If you book an excursion you get a specific coloured luggage tags. They take your bags for you off the ship to the terminal for you, and then they get loaded into the bottom of the airport bus that takes you on the excursion. This has made it super easy for me the 3 times I've done this. Hope this was helpful 😊
👍👍👍
Thanks Terry! 🥰
Grant, does NCL supply some of those plastic dirty clothes bags in your stateroom (to put all your dirty clothes in a bag to pack in your suitcase)?
Hi GC 👋 That's a good question. You may want to try asking the room steward, I've never requested anything like that. I'd say you could try using the laundry bags, but they're paper and wouldn't hold up too well 😜
We always travel with a nylon laundry bag with a few Bounce sheets in there to help ward off the not so pleasant smells. You could always just take a regular trash bag.
My husband’s shore excursion was cancelled at one of our ports. We weee directed to speak with the shore excursions desk to get the credit adjusted on the account as the amount we received back was inaccurate. That is one thing the front desk does not appear to be able to handle.
Thanks for sharing Scott. I've also had success with getting help with this from the Credit desk, often the hidden gem hidden between Guest Services and Shore Excursions. I hope that you got it all sorted out 🙏
If you go on an excursion, where does your luggage go?
Does your luggage get in the way on a disembarkation day shore excursion?
Hi CJ 👋 Great question! When I've done disembarkation excursions luggage is always tucked nicely away under the bus / coach so it's out of the way and I don't have to worry about it until I'm at the airport. It's really quite nice!
On my first NCL cruise I mad the mistake of leaving our passports in our luggage to be taken to the terminal building.
I did manage to get them before they carted them down to storage, and I found out that it wouldn't really have mattered much, but I was nervous anyway.
It's easy to forget what to wear on disembarkation day, especially cruising in the winter months and returning to ConUS.
thanks for the tips, one question, if the Norwegian Cruise Line ship gets into Vancouver, at 7am, how long does it take to get off ship Disembarkation, would we be off the ship at for example 8am? or would it be more like 11am
#ourfirstcruise
Hello 👋 Great question, and the answer is it depends. But in general even when I do the fastest possible (walk-off with my own luggage), I find that it can take 30 minutes or so to wait in line as everyone is getting scanned off by security. Just a note that when the ship arrives is not necessarily when they start letting people disembark, they have to clear certain custom checks. So give yourself plenty of time, particularly if you're booking your flights home. Hope this helps! If you have ay other questions don't hesitate to reach out on Instagram @cruisewithgrant
If you carry off your own cases and you have booked an early flight home you should be able to leave pretty early.
but please don’t book a 9am flight if you’re due to arrive at 6am as it’s not alway a quick disembarkation.
Getting through the port can sometimes be busy and hence slow, for instance, we arrived in Fort Lauderdale at 6am. Disembarkation began at 7 or 8 and we were in a group that let us off at about 9.30. It was gone 11 by time we had queued up and got through passport control, customs, baggage reclaim and onto our airport transfer. Very happy our flight was after 5pm on that occasion.
So short answer to how long is this piece of string is…it could be anywhere from less than an hour to over 3 hours. Depending on how many are in front of you.
i ALWAYS have extra charges on my account. Seems to be a scam some poeple dont check till there off and then good luck getting them taken off
If the ship arrives at port at 7 what is the earliest one can get off?
Hi Robert 👋 the time you can get off depends. Usually when the ship arrives they will have to clear the local customs; sometimes this takes an hour, but I've been in ports where it has taken upwards of 2 hours. It depends on the local protocols and inspection requirements. Hope this is helpful!
@@CruisewithGrant thank you grant. We arrive at 7am and flight leaves at 10. I am hoping we can make it since the New Orleans port is close to the airport 20 minutes.
@@yourvenezolanoDid you make your flight I'm time?? I'm planning for my cruise disembarkation now
@patriotshawna5351 we did not. We should have gotten off sooner and not waited until they announced it and should have been in line at docking. We also took too long waiting for lyft instead of just jumping in a taxi that were waiting. Missed it by 10 minutes. Other than that, we would have made it. But it was a fun spontaneous road trip home nevertheless
@yourvenezolano I'm happy to hear it ended well even if you missed your flight. I only live 4hrs away from Seattle but I really don't want to leave my SUV for a week, so maybe a train! Would be a fun adventure back home
