Person 1- "Buy some bread"/"Buy some bread fuh meh nah"/"Yuh go buy some bread"/"Buy ah bread fuh meh nah"/"Yuu go buy ah bread" and so on it goes fuh d bread talk
Btw I'm Trinidadian
nice version, thanks for watching!
This video was truly helpful and as a Trini-American it’s meaningful. When I was younger, I never really knew how to speak Trini and I was confused whenever my parents and extended family used it. Sometimes I tried using it with my family, but it just came out as improper English to them. So thank you for teaching me how to use it properly
Really glad it has some value, hope you can speak ad mix better soon!
You might be family, I could teach you
Same story. There are distinct grammar rules and if you don't know them, you get that "stank look" from whoever you talkin' to.😂😂
My wife is from Trinidad, and I'd love to surprise her and make her happy by sharing the moment with her when she gets mad and her accent comes out lol
Nice!
I love hearing Trinidadian accent I think it's sounds wonderful. I wanna speak the accent but not sound ignorant or mocking my family is Trinidadian so I think it'd be cool
Many people mistake my accent for Trini and I don't know why. We speak differently. As Russel Peters say, Trini sing their words bouncy bouncy 😂🤣. I love it.
Where are you from?
"goin grocery?"
"wa sumtin"
"doh study nah"
Nice, even more efficient!
Druva Sinanan THIS!!!
"Gonin gostry?"
"weh ya want?"
"Nah man! Ah jus fas!"
lol
Trinidadian is a proper language. I need to add it to my reportoire
Yes it is!
I have a character in writing who’s Trini and I like to do my research to make sure I’m portraying things right and this has been a huge help! Thanks
Glad it was of help, thanks for watching!
Omg no way, lol
Hi.
Born and bred Trini here.
Proficient in English as well.
Message me if you need help.

Thank you, Yohan. I was looking for help in writing a story with a character from Trinidad. Your video really helped me approach Trini dialect and expressions in my writing.
Glad it was helpful!
I have to hear it. I always loved daddy’s accent.

I am a Ugandan n would like to come over. One day I will for sure! Thanks so huge.

"Doh study it", might be the only thing not used in Jamaica or not known by me. Love the Trini accent and love all the island accents. Yu a go a shop? naw why? notin.
this is really nice to have! growing up i only spoke in trini dialect until going to american schools where they corrected my slang and pronunciation so i want to relearn what i’ve unlearned
Hope this helps! glad you dont see our dialect as wrong, but beautiful.
Lovely. I cant wait to connect with my roots. 🙂
Best of luck!
I also thought "nevermind" doesn't sound like trinidadian ;)) I absolutely love the rythm, the accent, I spent the best years of my life with trini people and I miss that vibe in my life fuh sure!!
Thanks for sharing!
This helps a bit. I’m doing a voiceover audition and the breakdown is Caribbean but Trinidad and Tobago accent preferably, so I thought I’d turn to CZcams and you popped up! Thanks!! 👌🏾

Glad you liked it!
The sweet Trini language is a University course in itself. I'm 30+ years in US and use all of our famous phrases when speaking to my daughter.
Keep it alive! thanks for watching!
Yohan, I thought this was very helpful! esp. understanding the part about being ultra efficient.
Thanks!
Pretty much on point. Just add "awa" at the end of a question for good measure and that's basically it lol
Yep!
aye boi, yuh real good to do dis. Nice man...love it :)
Appreciate it
I think this has been helpful.
Thank you!
Happy it was helpful!

Wow! Glad it is so helpful!
Thank you ! This is very interesting. Wow! :D Subscribed !
Thanks and welcome
That's the same used in peoples' houses in the US. Kindergarten called it short hand. Just individual slang words are unique to different countries and towns .
thank for the info
What did my mother mean when she said:
check yu self... when I was little?
Check what ma? I’m checking!
To this day 40 years later.. how I’m supposed to do that? Lord alone knows. 🤣
Lisa...your mom felt you were being rude to her...so she means to check (watch or be careful) of your tone of voice or words you are saying. Mom's also say 'catch yuh self' meaning same thing above
Thank you so much Rican love ❤
Thanks for watching!
Used to talk somewhat like this as a kid, dad‘s from Tobago. German school made me sound like a Brit
Thansk for sharing the connection.
German school made you sound like a Brit…How?! 😂
I am researching Trinidad and Tobago for a country project and I wanted to hear what there accent sound like.
There's videos on CZcams that go more into detail with local slangs and terms, also some that mention our local foods, dances and culture 💓
Thumbs up to Mi Trini! 🇹🇹#SANTACRUZ
Yuh goin grocery today"nah, y yuh ask,
Wappen u wa sumtin"doh hot yuh head nah man.

@@YohanPartap I am Trinidadian but living in jamaica and idk how to speak trini but going to try and learn the accent
I wanna start eliminating unnecessary words, It sounds easier!
Try it and let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching!
@@YohanPartap I am trindadin
Yes
Mi dads Trini Nd mi mothers Hungarian nd i is wanna have that beautiful trini accent, bu since I grew up in the UK ion have no accent, nd I’m so jealous of trini girls who actually have he accent. I’d probably feel less insecure if I had a nice accent, so this was helpful.
To us you, you have an accent! I know the trini accent is nice (of course I am bias) but appricate your own heritage which is very unique! Trini/Hungarian that grew up in the UK!! That is so cool!
Is de oral lilt o de way Trnis speak make it soo sweet
Beautifully explained
Thank you so much 🙂
@@YohanPartap thats kinda how I think of it too, what words do you actually need?
Here's an interesting question, I won't post the answer right away: why do we pronounce "th" as 't' in some words, and 'd' in others?
(There is a very clean and precise answer, if u can figure it out. It isn't just random chance, if I say "look at de ting ovah dere", you would *never* say "look at tee ding ovah tere")
Efficient! Yes! Never really thought of it that way before.
Thanks for watching!
Doh study it! That's exactly what I thought of as soon as you started!
great minds, thanks for watching!
I is ah trini and ah like it rel bad
Yeah that or “doh bodda” lol
You don’t go grocery, you “ make groceries”😂
Yes, my grandfather used to say, "make message"🤦♀️
Can you do saying thank you next
Love the video
Thanks!

@@YohanPartap Yuh done know!
I’m Trinidadian but also American soooo and I’m learning🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Glad it helps!
I wonder if this is how old people talk because to me you still need “the” and “you” just switched Trinidadian words.
What I does say is " yuh going in d grocery today awa"
"Nah wappen yuh wa something awa"
"Doh bother ah jus asking"
Nice! thanks for watching!!!
Only shay....Yes....same thing I was saying in my mind lol
what does awa mean
@@timotheechammywammy3214 it’s a trini slang we does put at the end of our sentences that makes it sound more interesting/neat to us -my definition of “awa” it don’t actually have a meaning
it’s like “awa” > “or”
u going in the grocery awa?
u going in the grocery or?
something like that but tbh it don’t actually have a meaning lol
@@minnievssp THANK YOU. i’m surprised you actually answered cause your comment was 2 years ago lol. But i just moved in with my trini family and i’m trying to learn how to speak like them so thanks. 💖

Oh yes! nice, straight to the point!
I need help I'm in a debate with somebody from Trinidad and bro hit me with the ' saddis is small talk yuh like owa? Wtmc' what does it mean
Lol, he basically is enbing the debate as he is saying you are not really saying anything of substance. wtmc is kinda trini for wtf.
Lol some of those words could have been change and it would have still have the same meaning. I’m Trinidadian btw. 😁✌🏽
Thanks for watching!
I been living in the USA 5years now I forget how to talk basic things in guyanese
It is so unfortunate that you cannot make the link between french patois that was spoken in Trinidad and the creole english you speak today.
This video was a fun video on "how to sepak trini" not a history or linguistic breakdown. Of course or history is connected to how we speak. from our saying to how we speak, I remember saying "yeah wei" when I was younger, A sure throw back to French. To the words we use like Fete and Jouvert. Unfortunate this video was not about that.

How to say good night in Trinidad? Is it just good night normal form or it have some other form in Trinidad?
We say good night, but I remember shortening it to just "night", also we say "in de morning".
@@YohanPartap thank you ❤️
Oh, also "doh study it" = "doh beat up" lol
Yes! thanks for sharing
I need to teach my wife trini 😀
Hope this helps!
My parents are Trinidadian and when I try to have the accent it sounds weird
Oh with practice you can get it, thanks for watching!
Yohan, hear noh. Ah deh hay writin' dis novel with a Trini charactoh, an' ah want to know something. I'm Guyanese and we would say "God res' de dead", when reflecting on somebody who has passed. When Trinidadians reflecting on somebody who has passed, do they say "God res' de dead" also?
Good day, thanks for watching. re: you question, in Trinidad I heard many times, "God rest his soul" but we would say it more like "God rest he soul yes". Hope this helps!
@@YohanPartap Thanks, mih broddoh. Peace!
Another Guyanese ting we say is, "If nine don't know, ask ten." (There's more to that situation than you think!) We might also say, for that same interpretation, "Deh have mo' in de mortar than de pestle!" (There's more on that situation that you think.) Question: What do Trinidadians say in the latter instance?
@@haroldbascom5866 I never heard these proverbs in Guyana and I love proverbs. What do they mean, please?
