I prefer the Rio version just because the crowd in Brazil were so incredible, 50,000 people singing to an instrumental is pretty wild, but this one is truer to the studio version up until the drum solo that is and Rush never gives a bad performance so it's all good. 😊🇨🇦

Everyone has their own opinion, and that's a good thing. However, I can't quite figure out why people prefer a certain version because of a crowd...In my humble opinion, this is a better version than Rio. Firstly, Neil has a drum solo in this one. Secondly, they are younger in this video. Also, they are much quicker here, and I love Geddy's bass, and Neil's drum kit. This is the timeframe where Rush just simply blew everyone away!

Glad I saw them a few times. I should've seen them every time they came to Dallas. I could kick myself for that. Three of the best ever!

YYZ is an instrumental by one of the greatest bands in the world. YYZ is the Airport code for Toronto Airport, which is where these guys are from. Neil Peart practiced all the styles from the legendary drummers. Each of these guys appeared on so many magazine covers for their respective instruments. And if you watch Geddy perform... he does 3 or 4 things at the same time...
He'll play bass, sing, keyboards, and has some foot pedals in some songs.

    Best Live Performance
    RUSH - Xanadu - Live In Montreal 1981 (2021 HD Remaster 60fps)
Alex Lifeson - 6 string guitar, 12 string guitar, pedal synthesizer, volume pedal; Geddy Lee - Vocals, bass guitar, 6 string guitar, foot pedal synthesizer, electric piano/synthesizer; Neil Peart - Lyrics, Drums, orchestra bells, tubular bells, wind chimes, crotales, timbales, timpani, gong, temple blocks, bell tree, triangle, and melodic cowbells.
Based on Kubla Khan (Xanadu) by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Coleridge composed his poem, ‘Kubla Khan’, in a state of semi-conscious trance either in the autumn of 1797 or the spring of 1798 and published in 1816. The whole poem is pervaded by an atmosphere of dream and remains in the form of a vision. The vision embodied in Kubla Khan was inspired by the perusal of the travel book, Purchas His Pilgrimage. Coleridge had taken a dose of opium as an anodyne, and his eyes closed upon the line in the book, “At Zanadu Kubla Khan built a pleasure palace.” But this opened his creative vision, and the poem of about 200 lines was composed in this state of waking dream. On being fully awake, he wrote the poem down. The theme of the poem is unimportant. It describes the palace built by Kubla Khan, the grandson of Chengis Khan, the great rule of central Asia.

If you were from Canada, you would say Y-Y-Zed. That's the way I heard Geddy announce it live in Dubuque, Iowa in February 1981, just weeks after the album came out. That was the first time I saw Rush LIVE! They added a show a few days later in La Crosse, Wisconsin and I saw them again. Later that summer, Rush was hitting the big time and added two shows in Bloomington, Minnesota and I saw both of those....
I saw Rush perform live on almost every tour since then, totaling 18 times. And...that don't even QUALIFY as a Rush superfan.
Rush was my favorite band, pretty much since 1978. I gave it up later on, (1979, 1980) for the Who as they had a long history, and I saw them FIRST, but In the End (a Rush song pun) the guys in Rush are HUGE fans of the Who as well, and they honestly had as long and as fine a career. They stood proudly for pics next to Pete Townshend.
So thanks to the Who, Rush has pretty much been my favorite band since 1978.

Hey my young friend YYZ is the airport code for Toronto Ontario Canada!

  • @debbieplato5107
    @debbieplato5107 Před rokem

YYZ is the indicator code for the Toronto International Airport and the beginning of the song is YYZ in morse code. Alex Lifeson the guitarist is also a licensed pilot and he was flying them back to Toronto when the code came on. The beat stuck with Neil and Geddy.
I don't believe Neil was in a drumline at school. They weren't that popular in Canada but he started playing drums at 13 and he mentioned once that he had a very good drum teacher. Both Alex and Geddy started playing guitar at 13 as well. Geddy started on guitar then switched to base.
The guys were always happy to see YYZ on their luggage as it meant they were heading home to their families.
    Cheers

YYZ Is bilingual, either American or British pronunciations work. International code for Toronto's international airport inspired a rhythm, the man airport named in honour of inspired a nation.
