I'm waiting to get the result of my last ACCA paper tonight and got your video when I searched for how to find my first job without experience. First of all, thanks a lot for such an amazing video. I already got a lot of valuable information from this. Also as my case may be different than most people, will be very thankful if you anytime later find time to answer.
I'm 36 years old. I had a bachelor degree in Finance from my home country and now living in UK. In UK I was working as fast food shop (Subway) manager & Aldi deputy manager. So, I couldn't finish my ACCA which I left in 2013 after first 9 papers. Last year I started studying again after a gap of 8/9 years and hopefully I will complete tonight.
So my question is as I don't have any previous finance or accounting job, a big gap in study & as I'm starting at the age of 36 do you think it's possible to get a good job? And how should I go ahead? And the range of salary I should target? Will be very thankful if you find time to advise me. Thanks a lot.

I have previous experience in multiple roles in IT (web dev, system administrator, research assistant) and I literally combined them all into one as if it had been a single experience. I merged the dates into one range, wrote all the roles and companies on one line (fortunately they were all in the same city), wrote a line saying "IT experience combined in this CV for clarity and conciseness" and added 3 bullet points briefly explaining responsibilities. Massive space saver, but I hope it'll be well received.
I'm already a Xero certified advisor and I will take an Excel certification too because I think "Excel Certified" sounds much better than the millions of "Good Excel knowledge" they must already be reading 😂

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on what my next steps should be. I have recently graduated with a bachelors in Economics and I am very keen to get into accounting. Should I begin by studying for the the ATT qualification and then start applying for entry level trainee accountant roles or should I just apply to these roles anyway without starting the ATT - there are many which provide study support/training and are willing to pay for qualifications as well as some that provide study support for ACA/ACCA straight away so I would prefer this, however I'm worried applying with just my degree and no professional work experience may seem as though I am less serious about this and as a result less employable. What do you think?

I would like to spend few words on your advices. First many HR Managers want all your work history till 5 years, so you need to write all. Write only job that are related will not let you to stand out. Second the age is very important, at 40 become really impossible. That you are able to use Sage, it is not important for the Company, if you didn't use that software for real job.The reality is that in any jobs you need to know someone that will let you to get the first job otherwise you could try 1000 times will be all rejected. I have 2 degree in Maths and Project Management. Now I start AAT from level 2 till level 4 and I can't get neither the basic job in accounting. Without know someone it is impossible.
