    I've never had respect for JoJo's mother. Even when I was in my very early 20s watching Dance Moms as a fan (I didn't know any better back then, I'm 34 now) like how she allowed her daughter to be treated and basically @bused by Abby. I also thought it was gross how the cameras constantly violated the children's privacy.

    I was a competitive figure skater growing up. About 5 to 18. I wanted to quit and play school sports and my dad wouldn’t let me. His reason was literally what Josh said. He’d “already poured so much money into it for me to quit”
    Same dad who coached my sister and went to my brother’s golf matches but hardly showed up for any competition or support outside of his monetary contributions. We were more well off but I can promise it doesn’t mean shit to a child to be financially well off but not have a present parent.

So many parents in these sports (cheer & gymnastics) are all in for it themselves and push 6 year olds for so many privates, and crying or not still forcing them it’s wild to me. I am the complete opposite. I support my kids, but this is for them, not me. I can’t wrap my head around this & parents allowing this.

      Yes, skating is expensive with the skates and ice time etc., but parents should not force their kids to continue if their heart isn’t in it anymore. I’ve noticed that parent competition is a real thing at these events.

    This is so sad... it seems like JOJO Siwa and her mom are repeating the same treatment that Abbey Lee Miller did to JoJo Siwa and the other girls....
    Abbey had a dance studio...
    Now Jojo and her mom have one...
    Abbey was mean and berated the kids at her studio...
    JoJo and her mom are doing the exact same...
    This is just a repeat of the Abbey Lee Miller dance moms show and studios, but for the new generation... it's sad it is very frustrating.

    I was a dancing child. It was fucking rough. There were several of us, all brought to the house through the foster care system.
    We were given one meal a day - soup. And sometimes, even that wasn't fed to us if we didn't complete chores.
    We had to be spray-tanned, fully made up, in skimpy, revealing costumes.
    We were pushed beyond the point of tears during training by adults, who were often inappropriately touchy with us.
    We were never allowed our trophies or the money we made for winning.
    We were punished if we didn't win competitions and spoken to like trash.
    We were made to dance in a room, judged by predominantly adult men, taught routines that consisted of a large number of provocative movements.
    I was expected to dance with a chunk of glass in my foot. I won but was punished for getting blood on the ankle bands of my costume as I removed them.
    It was brutal and dehumanising, and I was 8.
    My daughter is 6, and wants to dance. I am aware that there are many dance schools that would be safe for her, but the trauma of my childhood frightens me.

    When I was younger I watched a lot of these types of reality shows, “Toddlers and Tiaras” and “Dance Moms” specifically, and wanted to be a competitive dancer or be in pageants so badly. Luckily my parents couldn’t afford to let me do everything I wanted to do, and I was heavily involved in band and school sports already, and didn’t want to quit those activities, so never started dance. I wanted to be famous so badly from the age of like 7, and now with my anxiety and other mental health issues, I’m glad I never got involved in “show biz.” It’s gross how these young kids are being exploited and the parents just stand there and let it happen.

We all hugged at the end, we were encouraged to make friends with other clubs and my teacher always asked 'do you want to train for a fight?" If I said no then I wasn't penalised. I loved kickboxing, I made so many friends I as touch respect, we were always told to say 'I am the best' and I'm still friends with the people I met there at 8 years old. I actually live with my best friend I met there! I couldn't imaging being told 'you can only fight because of me" wtf these are kids? I trained hard because I loved it, I also have type 1 diabetes and was allowed to have breaks whenever, go to the toilet without asking, it was no big deal. An adult always waited outside the bathroom for me. I'm planing on going back in the next few months I made it to black belt at 16 and was the first girl to get a black belt in my club. If I ever felt slightly sick or anyone felt sick, injured or anything we were told to go straight to A&E, we were told to stop, we were told to look after our body in terms of pain and injury. The Podcast Back To The Barre Chriti and Kelly the OG dance moms talk about what the contract really said, and at what point they wanted to pull their kids from the show but LifeTime threatened to take everything from them. The moms themselves also have a lot of trauma just like the children. They talk deeply about how they regret doing this to their kids. Honestly talk to the original season one dance moms. JoJo came later (season 4 or 5) and that point it was clear that children were being exploited. Parents would fight for their kids to be on this show.

    I can’t believe how anyone thought this was okay. Not the production company, not the Siwa’s , or the parents. What got me was when the mom said “ My daughter would hate me forever.” To me that indicates that the mother is allowing her child to control her. When I was growing up, my mother didn’t allow me to do things that would be harmful or traumatizing. I was upset at the time. I learned later that she had my best interest at heart. After all, she was the adult and knew better.

    We went through the same thing with my oldest son with baseball. Coaches talk very harshly to kids to get the best effort from them. But the really harshest talk started about age 12. My son played on 6/7 teams a year. One of those teams was a travel team and that gets into a lot of money. I wanted to stop but my son ate, slept and breathed baseball. He received a fully paid college education from it. He also was drafted but not high enough to really guarantee any type of success. It was like the 27th round or something like that. So he declined and just got a regular job and coaches. I learned a lot about the NCAA and other things that I never knew about college sports. I’m so glad that my other 2 children weren’t interested in sports.

    Girl, I could send you so many Jojo videos/clips to react to. I feel like Jojo is so young and deeply brainwashed that it's gonna take at least another ten years for her to finally snap into reality. If she will. I might be wrong, but I strongly believe that. The fact that she became friends with Colleen when she was twelve years old is so insane. She could've been an amazing queer icon, but she be came a disappointment instead. Sigh.

    JoJo Siwa said recently that she’s looking for a partner who’s ready to have kids soon… Hmmm, I wonder why that could be? Future mommy vlogger coming? Does she want to be the next dance mom and exploit her child on another reality tv show? Not to mention, if she wants to be in a lesbian relationship, she will either have to go through adoption or IVF, which will only make more content for her and lead to further exploitation and emotional trauma for the poor child who doesn’t have privacy or a strong father figure to protect him/her.

    My daughter loves to dance but I literally can’t find any dance lessons nearby that don’t participate in competitive dance (she’s 5). Also, a lot of them don’t let parents in the dance studio to see the kids dance. To me, that’s a big red flag. Unless a parent is being very distracting, why would it matter?

    • @clairebarden5533
      @clairebarden5533 Před 3 měsíci +5

      I’m a dance teacher, and most if not all dance schools don’t let the parents watch, until end of term, only because they don’t want the parents detracting or making other children uncomfortable. Make sure the teachers are all qualified and are all police checked when choosing a studio for your child ❤

    • @DeadLkeMe
      @DeadLkeMe Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@clairebarden5533yup yup. I did studio dance for over 12 years (until I graduated high school) and some of the moms who would stay to watch were the absolute worst. During breaks, some would pull their daughter off to the side and either chastise them or push them to try to argue for a "front row" spot. Additionally, depending on the age, it can be distracting or make kids nervous if they feel they're being "watched".
      Letting parents watch the last 5 min of class or towards the end of season is fine, but moms who helicoptered and lingered around usually started the most drama between *literal* children.

They played travel which was crazy enough yet many parents took their kids to the next level which is AAA and even more $$$ and time. Guess where they all ended up - playing men’s league 😂. And he had one coach that I could not stand - would make them skate til they threw up at 11 and 12 years old!! I am ashamed that I never spoke up - that was abuse !
