  • The Sun 24″ Traditional Electric Tricycle is a fun, classic looking electrified tricycle designed for adults, it's easy to mount, stable to ride and very adjustable in terms of speed and power, (go from 3 mph to 14 mph or slow reverse). Includes a rubber-coated metal basket that's perfect for storing groceries, supplies or the included charger to extend rides, removable battery pack can be charged on or off the bike. Available in five fun, bright and safe colors, highly adjustable seat with bars that are long, comfortable and easy to reach, the bike has a fender and chain guard to keep you clean. The display panel cannot be removed, the bike is fairly heavy and a bit wide which could make it difficult to squeeze through some doors, shipping is $350 but it comes ready to ride.

    I would love to see these replace golf carts for elderly people in mobile home parks, etc. Many people here have them; they are heavy and bulky to store, the batteries cost a fortune and their range is probably less than a half mile before they need to be plugged into big heavy rechargers again. They carry 2 people but otherwise are almost useless. This makes so much more sense for going down to the clubhouse, or going a mile or two for groceries.

    Bravo!!! Thanks Hubby and I have been riding electric Trikes for the last 6 years putting about 1000 miles per year. We have been using the Cozy Trikes and they are so much fun to play with on the Bike trail. We have replace the the lead acid batteries with lithium. The trikes are constantly being tweaked and they would not be good unless my husband was handy with repairs. I like being able to go up to 18mph on the straightways. Oh and my husband likes to be a dare devil putting the trikes on two wheels but it eventually sheared the frame and we had to get the frame rewelded so he is no longer the dare devil! Thanks for showing us some options to consider when we upgrade!!!

      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 7 lety +1

      Neat! Sounds like you two have a blast out there riding. Thanks for your tips about how riding on two wheels eventually damaged the frame... I'll keep that in mind :O

    • @xbluebells
      @xbluebells Před 7 lety

      Yeah... but don't worry about it too much as that is was after a year of riding. So maybe just play the dare devil every once and a while! And we do a small amount off road biking so that could have weaken his frame as well. Big thanks for all you do!

      The trike in this vid is 500watts. How much power and battery do you like? I had a 1500 watt scooter with 48 volts. That was a lot of power. I think a trike needs 100watts or more.

  • @ajemohaltom3560
    @ajemohaltom3560 Před 7 lety +2

    What I've found is that the electric trike allows for the most amount of redundancies. You could pack spare wheels, spare batteries, spare motors... In terms of being caught "out there" with a battery capacity problem or flat... I've always made my trip without making a emergency phone call with an etrike.

  • @SiMahDan
    @SiMahDan Před 4 lety +1

    for a professionally designed and manufactured trike should have the battery tucked in behind the seat post or under the basket. I think the single speed gearing is totally inadequate should be at least three if not 7-speed.

  • @Shindinru
    @Shindinru Před 7 lety +1

    You don't get to review many traditional delta trikes so you probably don't know but a bit of useful information when deciding on a trike is if they are 1 wheel drive, 2 wheel drive without a differential (or solid axle, this is what the SUN Traditional seems to be) or 2 wheel drive with a differential. Each set up handles quite differently.

    • @AlM-sn3yr
      @AlM-sn3yr Před 6 lety

      When powered, Sun is a 1 wheel drive. When pedaled, - 2 wheel drive. When you pedal and squeeze the throttle - 3 wheel drive.

  • @themessiahssecondassembly7761

    It's a rough ride, especially for older people who have bad backs and hip's. No shock's to cushion the ride. No padding on the seat, not even a center seat shock which could help a lot in smoothing out the road.

    Thank you for making these informative videos. I am one of those "mobility impaired" individuals to which you refer... and I have not ridden a bke in 30 years! However, since my mobility is getting more limited, we are finding it difficult to find outlets for "exercise" - I thought a trike would work (for balance and allowing me to get my legs/feet up onto the pedals. But I have zero energy so the elecrtic assist is basiccally a MUST.
    My question is: after testing SO MANY electric trikes - whch would you recommend for the lemitations I just mentioned? My electirc scooter is front wheel and I always spin-out and find it difficult to brake (hand weakness) from such a high speed. So I will not be going FAST, but I need something easy to "pedal" (or at least get my legs moving a bit) AND easy to stop. (feather light brake?) *Also my scooter is cheaap Chinesse brand with NO parking brake.
    For now, it seems like this SUN trike might be best in it's price-range... but there really are sssoooo many to choose from.
    Please help? : - )

    • @AlM-sn3yr
      @AlM-sn3yr Před 6 lety +1

      You can forcefully limit max speed to feel safer. It is a single-speed, so if you want more choice to move your legs, they can add 3-speed hub for extra cost. It has a parking brake - front brake locks if pressed all the way. With 3-speed hub and aluminum locking battery (recommended), and shipping, it will be $2,000.

    Initial response: Got this bike for my friend. czcams.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ Delivery was fast. And the friend was surprised I would order it when she had never suggested she wanted anything but the pedal bike she had. She has now ridden the bike two times and gives it a 10 and says it is very fun. We have some hills in our town that are very challenging to climb on a typical bike. But tonight she went up with the pedal assist and loved it. I was way behind on my standard bike, huffing and puffing. Now she is no longer lagging behind me. This thing is powerful enough that a person could go around town without any pedaling. She likes to get some exercise so on flat ground she hits the red button to turn off pedal assist and only uses the twist throttle when she's in a tough spot. The bike looks good. It is really a very nice bike for the friend. Now for me, when I get an electric bike, I'm twice her size and will be looking for a bigger watt motor and battery. But this one is just wonderful for my friend. I am happy with this purchase.

    When you do these reviews of trikes can you please tell us the REAR wheelbase WIDTH? Many of us are living in apts and need to know that specific piece of information to know if they will fit through the apt doorway and fit into elevators. Not everyone lives in a house or has a garage to put these things. Very few times does this ever get mentioned and it is vital to know this. PLZ do this for every 3 wheeler you review.

    The "Crown" on most streets causes rider od traditional trike to be forced to lean over toward thr crown. Uncomfortable for even short rides. What's needed is a radial bearing in the frame to allow the rider to sit upright while the rear wheels conform to the angle of the rod.

      If you want cheep, then there is a 26" version of the Schwinn Meridian, they normally retail for $300 the only 26" cheaper that I know of is by Kent (~$220-$230 on Walmart.com), but their build quality seems hit and miss with the 7 speed Kent Monterey seeming to be of generally better quality then the Alameda. Given the reviews on Walmart.com, who can say how much of that is poor handling and assembly on their part though.
