Interesting video I love watching an experienced operator in a blade. They are amazing machines.
I'm running a 160m3 tomorrow it's crazy you came out with this when you did. That 160 has all joystick controls I prefer levers though. At least for me, there are a lot fewer accidental movements plus you look so much cooler :) but I don't have much experience in a blade. I kinda got tossed in it for tomorrow. I'm balancing gravel on a rebuilt road and this is my first experience with grading a road I've only used a blade in dirt applications so we'll see how it goes.
Sorry for taking a bit to respond! How did it go? Almost everyone I talk to prefers the piano keys over the joysticks in a grader.
I miss running a blade. Was one of my options when I was starting out. Did some finish work for FCI back in the late '90s for bridgework. Was running a 140H pretty new back then.
The blade is one of the few machines I never got any real seat time in. I got a half hour here and there to play around but I was never given any real seat time to learn the machine. I still want to....
My grandpa used to be a pro with the old tree style blade. Great video

It does give you a much better idea of what's going on in front of the moldboard. I think this guy said he's been doing county roads for 20 years.
@@DieselandIron maybe driving on them , guys hands are on the steering wheel more than the controls , slow down and keep your hands off the steering wheel.

These are some of the hardest machines in the industry to run. It takes years of experience to master these machines.
As a guy about to get his first chance in a grader, I would like to know if this is the first pass, how many passes expected, and what each pass's objective is.

I don't have a preference. I never really got a decent amount of seat time in a blade while I was operating.
