    Great to see you back in action and getting stuck into the Dodge. The market demanded bigger cars in the late 60s, so like Ford and Holden, Chrysler widened and lengthened their cars from VC to VE. Also, the 273 was in the VE, with the VF being the first model with the 318. Another difference between the Dodge and Valiant was that the Dodge only had a sun visor for the driver, the passenger just had to squint. 😄 Love the channel and loving this build.

    • @AutomotiveKarnage
      @AutomotiveKarnage  Před 2 lety +1

      Mate thank you for the insights. Firstly I need to correct myself in the next video about the 318 coming out in the VF like you say. That puts my original theory to bed as to why it was widened. Which brings us to the idea you bring up off customers just wanting bigger cars. It really could just be that simple.

    Nice to see you back in action and making headway my friend. the parts rig was a good buy I think, giving you many of the parts you need. Staying motivated is the trick and so remembering that its not so much about how much you get done but doing even small things consistently is progress so keep expectations small. Its all progress, right?

    Wheels should be easy, you've got a popular stud pattern, Ford, Toyota, and I think Nissan will fit. Watch out for center bore diameter, and offset. The big transition with offsets happened about the early 80s, so look for earlier.
    Chassis rails may be due to Australian design being replaced by American. Maybe.
    American design has engine offset about 4 inches to the Australian drivers side (right). This is to allow more room for the brake master cylinder, on LHD cars, Australia never changed this. . Once you see it, you can't un-see it.

    • @AutomotiveKarnage
      @AutomotiveKarnage  Před 2 lety

      Unfortunately the PCD change didn't happen till the VH model. Before that it was all a smaller 5x4in pattern. With Valiants being the only car in Australia to use that pattern.

      @@AutomotiveKarnage Bummer. I'm an early Holden guy, but am interested in most steel bumper stuff. Except for your location, redrilling may be an option. I had some rims re-banded, in Sydney 4 years ago, cost $240 each, but again location.
      Good luck, the Ute looks cool. I built an FJ Holden with similar patina. Road tripping around NSW, I make new friends every time I stop. Your effort will be rewarded.
      You'll need to get used to other motorists waving to you.

      @@AutomotiveKarnage Yes the cars in OZ just mimicked the US structures, Even to the point the drivetrain is offset 1" to the right to clear the steering box etc on the US models. The extra width is just because the later 1967 and up are bigger cars overall. They couldn't just jam bigger and bigger extremities onto the small early structure.
