(Beware, long personal story about one classmate that I met after 10-12 years) I've met lots of old classmates, but somehow it was always them that looked like their life had fallen apart. And I always greeted them nicely. Twice the person ran off, too embarrassed to look at me. Multiple times they started an awkward conversation, in which it was soon clear that they were either addicted to drugs, alcohol, or otherwise in a bad place in life. And too often, they instantly throw insults at me, hoping to cover up their fear and pain, which is wáy too clear to cover up. One time though, which really stuck with me, I met someone +/-10 years later, that had been out of controll in high school. It was a special school for kids with special needs, it's just that mine was innocent ADHD and he had severe anger issues. Back then, he'd given me black-eyes and slammed my head into the wall. He was known for being the stereotypical Arab guy, with the leather jacket that pickpocketed people and nastily catcalled women. Always dealing with the cops, agressive to teachers, and so on. About 10 or more years later, he walked into the same traincompartment and stared at me. I was frightened, looked the other way and he greeted me. Before I could even say anything, he started apologizing for the time in highschool. He said he remembered everything he'd done, even mentioned the punching and said; 'Oh I can't tell you how sorry I am for that, I was a total idiot back then. I'm not asking you to forgive me, that's totally up to you if I deserve that. Just know that I've changed since then, I'm not hurting people anymore, I've made my life better.' I accepted his apology and we talked as friends after that. He told me that he had started working in the police-department, as an assistant, but wanting to become the head of the department. I laughed and said (jokingly); Oh, you visited them só often in your younger years, you just figured you might as well work there, since you know the department so well?' He laughed out loud and we seperated ways, since I had to get out a few stops earlier. But that was the only person that has sincerely apologized. And had turned his life around. And he's doing great now.
That’s amazing and I’m genuinely happy for him, but it also makes me think why is someone who was charged with burglary able to get that high of a position?

The worst moment in judge life was when she had sentence him to jail. The type of affection she has for her old school friend & the way she admits in front of all type people without fear that her reputation would be in stake.Hats off too you mam.
I think it would have been an empowering moment. Certainly not worst moment. She is there so she can give a "fair judgement" regardless of a bias. And she did that very very well.
She didn't sentence him, the case was handed over to a different Judge, it says so in the description and she says he was lucky he had a good judge (she wasn't arrogantly talking about herself - most likely a friend and she put a good word in for him).
I believe ur wright but when we talk about school friends they are someone who r very close to our heart bcz that time that's the world for us & seeing them in situation like this is something which affects u from inside as we hardly no people outside our school circle that's y u can't forget them.
definitely not the worst moment in her life. If it was she would have recused herself to avoid a potential appearance of impropriety. She pretty much violated ethics rules by not recusing herself, so its not a stretch at all to say that she WANTED to rule on his case and enter the media spotlight. Elected judicial systems at work... smh
@B l u e . . . You can't claim all Miami judges are the same either. It's not about where a judge is from, it's about how he/she looks at the profession. For some it's just about money and authority, to others, it's a responsibility.

I know Im kind of late to the conversation, but everyone is talking about their "awkward" hug. The most probable reason why she didn't fully hug him is because it's not appropriate for a judge to hug the people they sentenced. She knew this video was going to be viewed by a lot of people, so she understood that she still had to be professional. Even if that reason is completely wrong and she's just not a hugger, it's still sweet of her to be there with them when he got out of jail. But can everyone please stop saying she's racist? They were friends in Middle School and she's there celebrating with him. I'm am 99% sure she isnt racist. All in all, this was sweet even if they didn't fully hug
RVK I totally agree. There's some IRRATIONAL and ignorant people in the comments saying she's racist. That's just wrong, because I don't get that feeling from her AT ALL. Judge Mindy is nothing but loving, sweet, warm, down to earth, and a good natured person. I'm glad they had a wonderful reunion.
See this judge that enforced a t4t justice: czcams.com/video/pZSTu98-Cus/video.html, But also gives minor felons a choice betwen doing something more productive that rooting in court jail A idle mind rooting in jail will not make that person resent anything, idle hands is devils work. Give some pro-active sentence.ditch/not pay a cab .... walk the same distance that that cab took you or 30 days jail. Of course once you curb a life and its premeditated, a life ruined for another life ruined.
For those commenting about the hug, I believe she intended for her whole left arm to go over to hug him but since she didn't time it right and he came in sooner than she expected, she was stuck and couldn't fully reach over.
I hope Arthur is doing well, and in a better situation now. So many people take wrong turns in life - we are all only human. It's hard work to dig yourself out a hole, but he seems hopeful, determined and has support. Rooting for him.
Judges arent always "looking down on people" but they do have to JUDGE them... she did him a favor and got him out early just so he could get arrested again in 2018 for battery

The judge is an inspiration , her words really inspired. How one can change the world !!!!
Rocky Disaster they were in love
definitely not the worst moment in her life. If it was she would have recused herself to avoid a potential appearance of impropriety. She pretty much violated ethics rules by not recusing herself, so its not a stretch at all to say that she WANTED to rule on his case and enter the media spotlight. Elected judicial systems at work... smh
Let's appreciate her. Even if she is at such heights, she is so down to earth.
@B l u e . . . but our judge see themselves as Gods.

She didn't fully hug him because she has a husband ....looking at her finger she definitely is married
