  • This weekend we have Jamie and Dave Womach from BirdTricks over to run a series of Bird Training Masterclasses in our classroom! They also worked with us on Cheyenne's flight training and I'm so surprised with the results we got by the end of the weekend!

      Parrots are way smarter than alligators. Alligators have more predictable behavior, with routine, positive reinforcement, and patience, you can get an alligator to do anything for you. With parrots, there could be a multitude of reasons why it won't do as you say, it could be your not using their favorite treats, or your equipment makes them uncomfortable, or it could be that they just don't like you.

    These guys, if I had birds, I'd go to wherever they are for their training. I love how they explained the whys and whats. I use positive reinforcement/clicker training on my dogs. I have trained three of my own service dogs using this. I can't really click fast enough so I use "yes". It is always amazing to watch a dog figure out for themselves what I am looking for. And treat/reward motivation is so varied! My first SD, Joella, could care less about treats. I used small pieces of paper for a while and then we tried cheese. OMG, what a change. Mike would do anything for a bit of apple. And Quinn will do anything for, well, anything. Food is her fave but she's also a fan of paper. What is up with Rotties and paper? Anyway, keep looking for what Cheyenne will work for. My mom's African Grey loved apples but the Amazon Macaw really wanted walnuts.

      I used yes/treats as well to train my dogs. I cant stand tring to hold the leash, trets and clicker all at once. To much and my dog could cair less about the clicker. I also really wanted her to work more off my voice than anything else.

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora Před rokem

      I tried the clicker with my cats, I even got the one that a plastic bit can slide out behind the metal to dampen the volume of the click, and they still would run all the way across the house to the other floor just to get away...turns out if I call two of them good girl and good boy nice and high and happy that's plenty of encouragement, and ear ruffles, jaw scratches, and scratches between the shoulder blades!
      Y'all, quadrupeds will love you if you scratch the areas they can't reach! Sternum, chest, shoulder blades, hips, lower back...
      When my timid, but giant, tuxedo gets too excited from all the petting he has to go grab his Kong Kickeroo and, "Give it hell!" He wraps his front legs around it, kicks repeatedly with his back feet, bites and shakes his head side to side until he's absolutely panting. If I ask him if he needs his kicker before he's absolutely ready to lose it he gets irritated, like I insulted him by asking! So rude! Lol.

    I'm doing a happy dance for Cheyenne! It's so amazing to see a 25 year old rescue that's been loved for years now really start being the bird she was meant to be. Cudos to Emily and Ed!

    Its beautiful, You can really see Cheyenne Step out of her comfort zone and begin to use her flight so well. She seems like a very anxious bird as well wanting to ensure her flights go directly to where she wants most of the time. Well done

    Hi! This isn't related to this particular video, but Rex (via Twitch) has been keeping me company while I study for the last finals of my undergraduate Chemistry degree! She's a great study buddy ;D Thanks for the nice relaxing stream and great tunes! (and all your wonderful funny, engaging, educational content)

    I actually squee’d when I saw Jamie post pictures with Capri at the zoo a few weeks ago! I’ve hoped for this collab since the first time I saw Cheyanne in a video. (Not because of anything she’s done, just because it would be awesome for two of my faves to work together)
    Thank you for facilitating my youtube dreams 😊
