      @@Slonimzz You must not know many fit people. It's definitely not easy for most (mere) mortals but you're talking about an elite athlete, it's a whole different ball game...

      @Slonimzz Před 5 lety +5

      @@miguel__mq I am a 36min 10k and i kind of understand runners, less triathlon. From his running form and from the little videos i watched of him, it looks weird that 80min 4k pace will be an easy chatting pace. His HR might not be high, but i don't believe it will be in the low 60%...

    • @miguel__mq
      @miguel__mq Před 5 lety +3

      @@Slonimzz Yet again, this is a whole different ball game. Especially when you take into account the huge aerobic base he probably has from swimming and cycling. 300W for 4hrs I think I heard him say once, if you had any idea how hard that is you'd probably think differently. Now I admit it, I can't say for certain that it is easy for him but I can assure you that a 36min 10k does not use the same energy system as an 80min effort hence, which is a lot more aerobic. Furthermore running/cycling/swimming at a high pace doesn't mean you know what you're talking about, otherwise most professional athletes would be sport scientists ;) Anyway this is kind of a pointless discussion as we are both talking about something we don't have enough data about to make an informed judgement and personal experience doesn't account for anything

    Thanks Lionel and Talbot. Re: Running coach. What we'd really like to see is a bio-mechanical analysis of what is going on with his right hip and leg and is it connected to his biking issue where one leg seems to splay out to the side and his torso seems to lurch to the right when he pushes down with his right leg. We'd love to get the skinny on all this and if he can clear some of it up maybe those IM runs will be even faster on the big island!! We're all behind him 100%! Thanks

    • @CrunchyWacko
      @CrunchyWacko Před 5 lety

      @@ironmantooltime While I am sure Ivan is a genius bike fitter and markers might highlight the abnormality, I think it might take a PT or running coach to pick apart his body structure inefficiencies. Maybe he was born that way and he had the hitch when he was 10 years old? Who knows? ..only LS does. When it comes to winning on the big island, it's bike for show and run for dough. I don't know what the answer is I just want him to find it ASAP. As a fellow Canuck I am behind him 100%. He'll never run like his buddy Correy B or Patrick L but I am sure he can run more efficiently.

    Lionel, you should definitely start to use the Stryd foot pod (running power meter). It helped me so much to improve my running form significantly as it measures running efficiency metrics and you can see progress over time while working on your form (cadence, leg raise etc.). There are even some podcasts available describing how it’s working and how to train with it.

That said, as a fellow Canadian, I am going to say this: The only thing that I can imagine you could 'dial in' better for YOU.....is perhaps your taper period. You have such power and speed that what comes to mind is that, possibly, you just are not getting everything at the cellular level perfectly rested and ready for your big races. Now, I just said that to a guy who has done 8 low in Kona. But, somehow that wasn't your best and you are still all over it daily. Keep goin' and remember rest is balancing component of GROWTH.....Onward, Aloha T

    'Training hard a lot' isn't what most evidence shows is the best way these days. The 80/20 polarised approach seems to come out on top mostly. Training camps and such is a different story and are a good way to get a step change in fitness but that volume of intensity isn't sustainable. Eagerly following these blogs and hoping to see a Kona win in 2019! What about S&C? You talk about progress coming from cultivating the upper limits, which S&C for endurance is all about. Do you do any? Would love to see some Strength work in the vlogs. Good luck in 2019!
