- Sorry for the late upload, I was planning on getting it out on the day of my latest complete orbit around Sol. Unfortunately occurrences linking to the event delayed the upload.
This is a video of me fossil hunting on Shanklin beach on the Isle of Wight off the south coast of England.
Unfortunately due to my terrible camera the audio quality is terrible and there are compression artefacts from the editing software. So I apologise for that.
Here is the story behind a certain segment:
I was walking up to the others in my group who were searching at the base of a cliff and found a massive gryphea (devils toenail). I said that they shouldn’t be so close to the cliff because there was a large fall a couple minutes ago and the cliffs were the most unstable I’ve ever seen (beating both Cardiff and Kimmeridge). Right as I said that an equally large fall occurred directly above us. We scarpered and as I fumbled with the camera I turned to see a shower of suspiciously yellow mud. Then the camera turned on and the rest is in this video.
The rest of my group proceeded to start searching at the bottom of the cliff. Again.

Sorry the upload was late (again) it was in the waiting period for over a day.
That's okay, I can wait anyway.Thank you for sharing a very beautiful video.😊👍
Thank you! If there’s ever anything you would like to see I would be happy to make a video of it.
Sounds good.👍
Really cool!!!
Thanks!
Were those monster clam shells 😲
Indeed! Biggest I’ve ever seen.
Great video and happy birthday
Thanks! If there’s anything you’d like to see if be happy to make a video on it.
Hey PRS. What do you think of the subtitles? Are they ok or a bit too obnoxious. I’m debating on whether to use this style or just a traditional black and white. Or just not use them. What do you think?
@@DreadEnder I find the font very pleasant, but would adjust the color a bit to the location to be able to see it better
@@PalaeontologyResearchStation yeah I tried changing the colours around to make them more visible. That’s why they are different colours. But in some scenes there just wasn’t a colour that really stood out. And I try to mostly avoid red when possible due to it being the most common colour blindness.
"This rock is fake" 🤣 Great video and so many good rocks to look at!!!
Thanks! It was fun to make.

@@DreadEnder While I enjoyed them, I think in general, if you're talking channel appeal, efficiency of your time, and marketability, I would eliminate the embedded captions, but still allow Closed Captions to be turned on and off by the viewer. Upload the video and set it for a future date to be published, let CZcams automatically create closed captions, then go in and edit them as needed and publish.
@@LookAtThisRock ok cool. I wasn’t sure how to get the captions automatically.
@@DreadEnder It should automatically do it for you if you give ita little bit of time (sometimes it's within 30 minutes, other times a little longer).
2:20 - I'd guess it's Limonite? Looks a lot like it and I've found it before in similar environments.
Probably. There was a very high iron content of rocks from a similar layer and it did appear metallic. Thanks for the info.
You only need to go to the House of Lords to find old fossils!
Hahaha yeah! Or maybe my grandparents
That massive fall was brilliant.😮😮😮😮
Yeah it was something. Unfortunately I didn’t get either of the big ones on camera. But I got some smaller ones.
It was still pretty cool thank you.💯

Great video friend.Im going to Florida in 4 days now and im going to look for alligator fossils from the pliocene(i believe)
awesome! I’m currently editing the next video but it’s going slowly.
@Lookatthisrock recommended a way to cut the time down which helps but I’m shattered after cosford march training (50 mile march)
@@DreadEnderAre you in the millitary? Or a different kind of march?
@@RapidReptiles2011 well ACF so not actually military but military funded with access to their equipment, bases, resources etc.
@@DreadEnder Do you have an l85 as a service weapon? I know that those are standard rifles for the U.K
@@RapidReptiles2011 I don’t own one because of all the red tape but I have 3 years experience with the LA80 A2 or some similar variant. I actually just did my 3 star (3*) skill at arms recently. It involves NSP’s (normal safety precautions) then a port arms (for checking) then stripping and reassembling followed by a functions test. And then stoppage drills. I’m thinking about making a short video of it but I have no idea how i would be able to get permission even on a skill at arms camp. Hell they keep the scorpion air rifles in a double locked safe!
Edit: ah ok, it’s the L98A2 cadet GP rifle.
👋🏻😉💯HOW ARE YOU? WELL, I HOPE.
I’m fine. Sorry I haven’t posted, it’s mid exam season and I’m strapped for time. It’s the half term tomorrow so I should be able to post a video although knowing me I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
@@DreadEnder As long as you are OK...do great on your exams. Till next time. 🤓👍
