Is it possible to create a dimmer switch that fits into a small round space? I'm turning a floor hair dryer into a lamp, and the switch that used to control the temp (cool to hottest) would be awesome of it controlled the level of light.
It is possible, but a bit tricky. What you can do is desolder and remove the actual variable resistor component from the dimmer switch. Then install that variable resistor in the location where you want the control to be. Then wire the three conductors from the variable resistor back to the rest of the dimmer switch. It's not terribly difficult from a logical standpoint. But you do have to ensure that none of these terminals, which are live voltage, can possibly be touched or shorted. otherwise you leave yourself with an electrocution or fire hazard. So it is possible to do, but I would be hesitant to do it unless you have a lot of confidence in your wiring skills and knowledge.
This should never by done by anyone who does not fully understand the electrical safety and engineering considerations! there is none listed i clicked through the video no sound nothing realy flagged about voltages ect worst that can happen bit of a bang ... keep a fire extinguisher handy lol i have adhd so safety is like a challenge at best
