Having to go against your entire nature (to fully love and let someone into your life) and then let them go in order to preserve the ability to love itself, is an indescribable feeling. Paradoxical. It goes beyond self preservation. It is about freeing the other person as well. It feels like a tremendous act of responsibility and integrity. Although it could be considered cold, it is actually an act of love.
